education • Year 1 and 2 Maths • Year 1 and 2 Literacy • Go to Dragonflies if in year 2 to hear about life

in year 2• Go to Caterpillars if year 1

New National Curriculum• Maths, reading and writing: brand new

curriculum with significantly higher expectations

• RE: curriculum stays the same• Other subjects: big changes to the curriculum• What have we done: carry on planning

exciting and challenging lessons that engage and motivate children to wantto learn and to do their best.

New Assessment• sub levels (1a, 2c, 2b, 2b, 3c...) have been removed• So:• year 2 (and year 6 SATS) – stays the same,

but for this year only. • year 1 phonics (and for year 2

children who re-take it) – stays the same.

• Reception curriculum and assessment –stays the same.

• year 1 – new assessment framework.• We are very clear as to what we are

assessing and how it will be recorded

New Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

• Significant changes: greater choice, greater control, greater accountability

• health, social care and education working together

• EHCP and School SEN Need• EHCP: co-produced with children

and families• ISP – individual support plan replaces the IEP• But what won’t change is our attention to detail

to support children who need additional help.

Universal Infant Free School Meals• 95% year 1 and 2 children eating a hot school dinner• Seating plan• Plated service• Children encouraged to try new foods and eat as much

as possible• Allergies, vegetarian and religious diets are catered for• Advert out for new MDS to work in quiet area and an

indoor lunchtime option• Today: Roast Pork, apple sauce, roast

potatoes, cabbage, carrots and vanilla and raspberry ripple ice cream

Year 2• Will use sub levels • Will use the target sheets that will be

familiar from the ones you had last year

• But year 2 will be taught the new year 2 curriculum (in preparation for year 3) but assessed against the old year 2 curriculum

• Higher expectation is children reach a 2a• We remain committed to ensuring your child receives

an excellent and inspirational broad and balanced education so that your child reaches their potential academically, in the arts, physically, emotionally, culturally and spiritually.
