On the 6th of July, I finished a brilliant book called

Skulduggery Pleasant. It is about a girl called Stephanie Edgely who makes friends with a man named Skulduggery Pleasant, an elemental sorcerer (but a good one.) He is a detective and has a friend called Tanith Low. She is my favourite character because, not only can she use magic, she has a sword and she uses it very well. I recommend this book to everyone who likes a little crime and

mystery.

In Reception I like the building corner the best and the board. I would like to do sums at the blue table. They would be the trickiest sums in the world and the Teacher would say

“Wow!, Wow!, Wow!” I will have tried my hardest.

Every Tuesday my Mum, Dad, baby brother and myself go swimming to Waves. I love to go down the big water slide! Whilst my Mum and brother hang out on the pirate ship, my dad and I swim in the big pool. My brothers favourite place is the pirate ship. I think this is because he loves the water slide on the ship. He loves the way the water shoots across the pool. My favourite part is definitely the big water slide because it makes you shoot down really fast. After-wards we sometimes get to visit the café too.

In April this year I went to a Taekwondo competition in Penrith. First I found my team and went off to practice. After prac-tice we went onto the mats and had to recite the tenants of taekwondo and the taekwondo oath. After that we did our patterns for the judges. My team did a pattern called do-san. We ended up win-ning a gold medal! Whilst we were waiting around, I gave my medal to my uncle Simon and went to have some food. After a little while, my team, The Reflex Ravens were called out for sparring. I quickly put my sparring pads on and again, went on the mats. We ended up winning another gold medal! Following this was a special technique round (jumping high kick). If you can do this move, you win, yes you’ve guessed it, a gold medal. Sadly no-one from my team could do it so we had to settle for two golds.

On the 7th of July, I went to see Despicable Me 2 at the Odeon Cinema on the Silverlink. I was very ex-cited as we were there for Thomas Riley’s birthday party. When we sat down to watch, it was very funny indeed and I laughed so hard that I spilt my dough-nuts that I was eating. My favourite part of the movie was when the minions were singing the YMCA song. I would recommend that you go and see this movie be-cause it will literally have you laughing your head off.

On Monday the 1st of July, the Eco-Club Warriors went for a visit to the Rising Sun Country Farm as part of our ‘Hands on the Land’ project. The project is about getting your hands dirty, getting yourselves outside and having fun at the same time. We travelled by mini bus and once we arrived at the park, we walked for 10 minutes to the farm and everyone was exhausted. It was a really nice sunny day and we were all a little sweaty! At the farm we met up with Mick and John who showed us around the farm. We split into two groups went off to do different activities. One of the activities was based out-side where we tasted lots of vegetables and fruit which had grown on the farm. The vegetable’s we tasted were radishes, rocket, mustard, peas, broad beans and cauliflower. The mus-tard was especially spicy and hot. It made our noses tingle! We also tasted gooseberries which were hairy and very sour. We smelt a lemon and lime plant which reminded us of a sweetie shop. We also were able to plant lettuce and got to see some of the animals around the farm. We named a goat ‘Billibob’ and were able to feel sheep wool which made our hands really oily. We also saw baby piglets feeding from their mother. They were so cute but really smelly!

After a fun packed morning we went for lunch and met up with the other group. We wrote up our mornings events in our Hands on the Land booklets and went off to our afternoon activity. We made differ-ent types of bread buns to go with the soup that the morning group had made. There was 4 different types of bread buns that we made from scratch. Tomato and herb, cheese and onion, plain and seeded. We followed a recipe and they turned out very well and were yummy with the soup. We ate them altogether on the grass outside. We learnt that its fun to get outside and get your hands dirty instead of staying inside, watching TV and would recommend you do it too. A big thank you to Mick, John, Harley, Mrs Hall and Mrs Williams for a super day out. My First Rock Concert – A Muse

Concert Review

By Matthew Slater, 4South

A month ago my dad and I went down to Etihad stadium in Manchester to see Muse in concert! Muse is a band from Devon England and they are touring in support of their latest album called The 2nd Law.

The first opening band was a band from London called Bastille. They were excellent but since it was early in the evening they got a smaller crowd. My favourite song they played was Bad Blood because that was the song everyone danced around to.

The second act was Dizzee Rascal who is an English rapper. I didn’t like his songs but I liked the way he joked with the audience.

Finally Muse came on stage to play. Muse has three people in their band – Matthew Bellamy is the lead singer and guitar player, Chris Wolsten-

An interview with Year 2 Teacher and Assis-

tant Headteacher, Mrs Adams.

Where did you go to school? I went to

Monkhouse Primary and Tynemouth Gram-

mar Technical School.

Who was your favourite teacher at school

and why? Miss Redfurn my German

teacher was my favourite because she made

us feel we were good at the subject.

What inspired you to want to become a

Teacher and is this what you always

wanted to be? It was what I always had

wanted to be. There weren’t lots of choices

of careers around like there are today.

As a first school teacher you teach lots

of different subject lessons, what is your

favourite lesson to teach and why? I love

to teach all the different subjects but I

find Science and RE very interesting be-

cause you learn lots of interesting facts!

We all enjoy your assemblies, but how do

you get your ideas for them? Most of my

ideas come from books and The Bible. Some

ideas are from things happening around

school and others from stories I was told at

school.

What is your favourite song that we sing

in Hymn practice and why? Sun Arise

because it sends shivers down my spine

when we sing it.

Do you have a favourite board game that

you like to play? Yes I really like Domi-

noes, I’m always knocking!

Do you have any pets at home? I did

have 3 cats however sadly I no longer have

them.

What do you like to do in your spare

time, if you get any? I like to go for

walks on the beach. I also like reading,

swimming and like to go out for dinner too.

If Mr Easton said he was sending you

off for a well deserved holiday during

the summer holidays, where would you

choose to go and why. I’d go to Peru

because my daughter has been and she

said that there is a lot to do whilst your

there.

Do you have a favourite pop group and

if so, what is your favourite song by

them? I love the Beatles. My favourite

song is Hey Jude.

What is your greatest life achievement

so far? Having my two children Rebecca

and Daniel.

If you were invited to Buckingham Pal-

ace to attend the Queens birthday,

what would you take her for a present

and why? I’d take her a picture of

the Tynemouth Priory and Longsands

because they are beautiful and local.

Mr Harrison’s joke about the frayed

knot, in last half terms issue, was

funny, but can you tell us a joke that is

even funnier? (With the help of Albie

Sowter 4N.) Two crisps were walking

along when a man in a car offered them a

lift. The crisps replied “It’s okay—we’re

Walkers!

Thank you to Mrs Adams for taking the time to answer our questions.

holme plays harmonica, and Dominic Howard plays drums. They were amazing! They opened the concert with my favourite song called Su-premacy.

When Matthew Bellamy was singing hard, giant fire balls flew out of huge towers surrounding Muse. Afterwards they played a song about bankers making too much money and in the middle of the song money canons exploded with “Musos”, which are fake Muse money. There was a giant red robot sur-rounded by fireballs coming out for another song. They even had a floating balloon shaped

like a light bulb with an acrobat hanging off it during the song called Blackout. It was incredi-ble.

The sound quality was amazing. I could feel the

sound thumping in my chest. I had to wear head-

phones to protect my ears. Muse had huge

amounts of energy! In the middle of the concert

Matthew

Bellamy got so

excited he

smashed his

guitar. I would

rate the Muse

concert 5 stars!
