What Sustains Us? BY FIRST NATIONS KITCHEN TEAM In this extended time of isolation and uncertainty, it is important to reflect on what fuels our spirits. Some of the folks on the FNK team shared a few words on what sustains them. We hope that you can also meditate on the things that sustain you. These things could be difficult to grasp now, especially if connection and gathering are important to your happiness. However, we must be creative. Connection and gathering can look different now but it does not mean it's unobtainable. For me (Abbie), staying creative and busy with projects and fueling my art practice sustains me. It helps me release emotions into my work, hold onto hope, and practice what I love. Enjoy the following words from the rest of our team. What Sustains Us? BY FIRST NATIONS KITCHEN TEAM

What Sustains Us? . . . cont. BY FIRST NATIONS KITCHEN TEAM

Barb: This has been a challenging year for sure and my faith inGod is what sustains me. It was by God's grace that helped methrough my husband's passing and my involvement with FNK hashelped me stay focused on my faith and hope. My relationshipwith God and my faith community has grown stronger because Iknow they are there for me. I am never alone! I get through eachday by faith in God. On a side note, I also love watching Law &Order, SVU!

Bob: I have leaned on seeing the pandemic as the long winter.My Lakota ancestors would prepare for the long winters. Foodwould be stored, clothing made and the lodges built at the wintercamps. During the winter the stories are remembered, told andfine things are made. The people were patient. I think about thelife of my ancestors more than usual during this time. It will getme through, along with prayer, reflection, and doing the things Ineed to get done. It will get me through this long winter.

Ritchie: We are in for the long haul. I am sustained by prayersand daily yoga practice. I am moved beyond measure by theways our All Saints and FNK folks show up during this time;whether it be to volunteer on a Saturday or Sunday, to drop offor mail needed supplies, to read and respond to our social mediaposts, our newsletters and emails, to donate money to supportthe program needs, and/or to hold us in steady prayer. All of thiscarries us through this time of uncertainty and need in thiscommunity, the community we are all part of. This is hope.

Frank: Each day, filled with many opportunities for success ormoments to try again, are how I look forward to finding joy, hope,or love in everything that challenges me in my walk through theday. In the work that I do, the people that I meet, or thealoneness that I elect to or do not elect to find myself in. Thesecan all be failing struggles that can hold me down, but that is notwhat my Creator envisions for me to allow to happen as I havebeen graced with choices that will help me through those tryingchallenges and that is the hope that I see.

Welcome Tony!BY FIRST NATIONS KITCHEN TEAM

Tony Hunt has joined the All Saints/FNK team until Summer. Heis a postulant for the priesthood in ECMN and is serving as anintern and pastoral trainee. He lives in Northeast Minneapoliswith his spouse and two daughters. Tony is studying at LutherSeminary for a Masters of Divinity. His first job was as adishwasher at Perkins when he was fifteen and has primarilyworked in food service ever since. So he brings a perspectiveuniquely fitted to work with our mission. He loves to spend timeoutdoors and has a particular love of fixing up old bikes andriding them around. He has been leading a Bible study onWednesday evenings, which will continue in the new year. Wewould love for you to join us!
