The weeks of isolation and social distancing are building up for us all. Because of Australia’s relatively low death rate and decreasing infection levels in the Coronavirus pandemic, we are looking at an easing of the government restrictions. Schools are back for the families who cannot home school. I’ve heard from one family: “Home schooling is going well. 2 students suspended and 1 teacher caught drinking on the job” Ah well. I was speaking to Bishop Brian yesterday about how all the priests are feeling- a bit disappointed and lost without our communities around us. We spoke about how we are all called to be contemplative at this time. Our quiet prayer with Jesus is our strength. The communication we have on phone and internet connects us together, as does our belief that the Lord is always with us. Walking is a great exercise and it connects us to everyone out there doing the same. Our dogs are very happy with 2 or more walks a day, A lady in my street said: “This morning I saw a neighbour talking to her cat. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. I came back into my house , told my dog ….. we laughed a lot.” Each weekend we have a parish Sunday Mass. Michael Barnett generously produces this video each on the Bulli parish website. The Holy Eucharist connects us all to Jesus Christ. I’m sure when the restrictions on gatherings are over, we will all value so much more our Sunday Eucharist. Myself and Fr Geoff will keep you in prayer at this time. May the Joy, Peace and Love of the Risen Lord Jesus be yours, Fr Patrick Fourth Sunday of Easter 3rd May 2020 Good Shepherd Sunday

Greetings in the Lord Jesus, I hope you are all keeping well and safe. The weeks of isolation and social

REFLECTION: Thoughts from the internet (Author Unknown).

For weeks I have heard people saying, “ I just can’t wait for things to get back to normal.” I remember even

saying that a few times myself. But as I’ve thought about our current situation I have realised how much I don’t

want things to go back to the way they were. Here are a few of my thoughts:

1. I Pray that the next time a friend grabs me in for a hug, I actually take the time to appreciate the gift of their

embrace.

2. I pray that when school resumes and people are dropping kids off, they take the time to thank the staff for

the amazing gift that they give to our community.

3. I pray that the next time I’m sitting in a crowed restaurant I take the time to look around at the smiling faces,

loud voices and thank God for the gift of community .

4. I pray that next time I’m standing in church listening to the voices of praise and taking communion that I

take a moment to thank God for the gift of congregation.

5. I pray that the next time I see a person or situation that needs prayer, I hope I pray as passionately and

fervently as I have over the past weeks.

6. I pray that when I am at the grocery store that I take a moment to thank God that He provides us with the

necessities of life and the amazing people who work so hard to keep us supplied.

7. I pray that I never again take for granted the ability to hop in the car and visit a friend, go to the mall, go to a

movie etc.

So the truth is, I don’t want things to return to the way they were. I ask that we take the lessons and create a new

normal. My goal is to pay attention more, love harder, and truly appreciate the daily abundance of blessings that

were so easily overlooked just a few weeks ago.

Prayers for Current Seminarians and those discerning Priesthood: This Good Shepherd Sunday and the 57

th World Day of Prayer for Vocations let us pray for our

current Seminarians, James Arblaster and Sinh Le, as they continue their priestly formation for

Wollongong Diocese. We also remember in prayer the 4 young men from Vietnam - James

Minh Quy Tran, Martin Hoang Dang- Pham, Peter Thanh Cong Tran and Joseph Huu Minh

Vuong Nguyen – who are spending 3 months in Parishes of Wollongong Diocese, receiving intensive English

tuition and experiencing Parish life as they and the Diocese discern together whether they will return next year,

and possibly proceed to subsequent seminary formation for our Diocese. There are also a number of other

young men actively discerning their vocation with the Diocese. Let us hold them all in prayer this weekend and

continue to pray for more priests to serve the people of our Diocese into the future.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

FIRST READING: A reading from the Acts of the Apostles

On the day of Pentecost Peter stood up with the Eleven and addressed the crowd with a loud voice:

‘The whole House of Israel can be certain that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and

Christ.’ Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the apostles, ‘What must we do, brothers?’

‘You must repent,’ Peter answered ‘and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the

forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise that was made is for you

and your children, and for all those who are far away, for all those whom the Lord our God will call to himself.’

He spoke to them for a long time using many arguments, and he urged them, ‘Save yourselves from this perverse

generation.’ They were convinced by his arguments, and they accepted what he said and were baptised.

That very day about three thousand were added to their number.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

1. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.

Fresh and green are the pastures where he gives me repose.

Near restful waters he leads me, to revive my drooping spirit. (R.)

2. He guides me along the right path; he is true to his name.

If I should walk in the valley of darkness no evil would I fear.

You are there with your crook and your staff; with these you give me comfort.

(R.)

3. You have prepared a banquet for me in the sight of my foes.

My head you have anointed with oil; my cup is overflowing. (R.)

4. Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life.

In the Lord’s own house shall I dwell for ever and ever. (R.)

SECOND READING: A reading from the first letter of St Peter

The merit, in the sight of God, is in bearing punishment patiently when you are punished after doing your duty.

This, in fact, is what you were called to do, because Christ suffered for you and left an example for you to follow

the way he took. He had not done anything wrong, and there had been no perjury in his mouth. He was insulted

and did not retaliate with insults; when he was tortured he made no threats but he put his trust in the righteous

judge. He was bearing our faults in his own body on the cross, so that we might die to our faults and live for

holiness; through his wounds you have been healed. You had gone astray like sheep but now you have come

back to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: Alleluia, alleluia! I am the good shepherd, says the Lord; I know my sheep, and mine know me. Alleluia!

GOSPEL: A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

Jesus said: ‘I tell you most solemnly, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold through the gate, but gets in some

other way is a thief and a brigand. The one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the flock;

the gatekeeper lets him in, the sheep hear his voice, one by one he calls his own sheep and leads them out.

When he has brought out his flock, he goes ahead of them, and the

sheep follow because they know his voice. They never follow a

stranger but run away from him: they do not recognise the voice of

strangers.’Jesus told them this parable but they failed to understand

what he meant by telling it to them. So Jesus spoke to them again:

‘I tell you most solemnly, I am the gate of the sheepfold.

All others who have come are thieves and brigands; but the sheep

took no notice of them. I am the gate. Anyone who enters through

me will be safe: he will go freely in and out and be sure of finding

pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have

come so that they may have life and have it to the full.’
