A LONG HISTORY BETWEEN MOROCCO AND THE USA
• Morocco is the first country to officially recognize the United States of America as an independent nation as early as 1777.
• The American Legation in Tangier was the first American public property outside the United States. It witnessed the U.S.-Morocco Treaty of Friendship in 1786, which is still in effect today. The legation is still owned and operated by the US Government today.
• In more recent years, Morocco has been a close ally of the United States in the North Africa region.
• Since 2006, Morocco has been the only African country to share a bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States.

• The number of American tourists visiting Morocco has increased by almost 12% since 2014 on average. Tourism increased 23% from 2016 to 2017.
• Increasingly, Morocco is emerging as a geopolitical hub and platform for investment for West Africa and French-speaking African countries.
