Gin is liquid history. From the tombs of ancient Egypt,

the monasteries of the Middle Age, the laneways of the Industrial

Revolution, through the prohibition era and into the present day,

the second golden age of fine drinking, gin has been drunk by all classes

and in all corners of the globe. For over two millennia,

juniper berries have been used for ritual, medicinal and

gastronomic purposes, and to make fine beverages, namely gin.

Gin is provenance; it looks to the natural world for flavor,

aroma and sensation. Gin is the quintessential cocktail ingredient,

and since the turn of the 20th Century gin has been

a bartender’s favorite spirit. It is a beacon of sophistication and style,

yet is founded upon mayhem and grit. Gin is a delicious spirit;

it runs the gamut of fresh, vibrant and zesty, to floral, soft and delicate.

It can be robust and bracing, it can be savory and spiced. Here at ABar,

LONDON DRYOriginally made in London, this is a neutral spirit flavored with juniperand other botanicals. In the US, the minimum ABV is 40%; in the EU,it is 37.5%. Only water, neutral grain spirit and a small amount of sugar can be added, with no artificial flavors or colors.

OLD TOM GINThis style of gin has its origins in 18th Century England, but is not legally defined. In general, it is mildly sweet and not focused on juniper. It falls betweenLondon Dry Gin and Genever in terms of sweetness and is popular onthe craft cocktail scene.

SLOE GINA gin-based liqueur flavored with sloe berries, which are common in England. Traditionally made by soaking sloes in gin and sugar to extract the flavor, sloe gin must be at least 25% ABV by EU regulations, making it an ideal digestif.
