Hello friends!

Welcome to the first annual WTCA Conference

Paris, and thank you for traveling from near and far

to attend this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

At the WTCA, our goal has always been to make

positive changes in women’s tennis by providing

coaches with the educational tools to enhance the

level of coaching in our sport. That being said, we

could not be more excited to be bringing cutting-

edge education to Europe from some of the sport’s

most prolific coaches and athletes. We believe that

forming a global community of like-minded and

committed coaches is critical to making the

necessary changes in women’s tennis, and your

participation at our conference is invaluable to the

creation of this interconnected community.

Juan Pablo Abarca: Originating from Chile, Juan brings a wealth of knowledge to the WTCA Conference Paris. In addition to earning a Masters of Physical Education and Masters of Science of Motricity, he brings high-level coaching experience, working with three players who were ranked in the ATP top 100. Additionally, he has experienced success in the WTA, working with WTA top-300 player Daniela Seguel. He joined the Justine Henin Academy in September 2013 as a head coach and works primarily with junior and professional tennis players. He has worked

extensively with Justine to foster a positive environment for each and every member

of the Justine Henin Academy in addition to his coaching experience.

Lindsey Ayala: Received a Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from the University of South Florida in 2012 and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in 2014. At the University of South Florida, Lindsey spent time providing health care coverage for USF Football, Basketball, and Tennis teams. Lindsey completed her Manual Therapy Certification through the University of St. Augustine and continues to further her sports medicine education through courses in dry needling, manual therapy, and prevention & rehabilitation. Lindsey is a member of the WTA SS&M team and travels as a Primary Health Care Provider.

Sancha Bainton: Formerly a junior tennis player, Sancha has worked at Goldman Sachs as an Executive Director in Equity Sales since 2007, covering institutions and hedge funds as well as specializing in Pan European as well as global equities. Since January 2018, she has been a Board Member of England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), to encourage participation and growth within the sport.  

Tim Bainton: The founder for Blue Chip Sports Management (BCSM) Tim is seen as a pioneer in the tennis industry for his accolades with building and sustaining success of various tennis clubs; his work has focused on professionalization of tennis teaching industry and creating successful algorithms to maximize each square foot of the court. When speaking, Tim focuses on the subjects of Tennis Entrepreneurship, Synergistic Relationships in the Tennis Profession, High Performance Parameters, and Creating, Sustaining, and Leveraging Partnerships in the Tennis industry. He played tennis collegiately works with junior players having coached with the USTA HPCE at Davis Cup and the US Open.

Mike Barrel: Based in the UK, Mike has taught tennis for over 25 years working

with players of all levels and is the Founder and CEO of evolve9. Mike has presented at numerous National and International conferences and has authored magazine articles and manuals. Mike’s programs include the GTN - Girls Tennis Network. He has worked on programs for the USTA, Tennis Australia, LTA (GB), Chinese Tennis Association and many other tennis nations including Holland, Norway, Estonia, Cyprus, and Hungary. Mike was the author of the ITF Tennis10s Manual and has been a major contributor to Under 10 programs around the World. He also works for the LTA as a Coach Education Master Tutor.

Youlia Berberian Maleeva: Against all odds, Youlia miraculously coached all three of her daughters – Manuela, Magdalena, and Katerina – into the top 6 of the WTA singles rankings. Residing in communist Bulgaria, she molded her daughters into not only the best tennis players in the country but also the world. Manuela reached as high as No. 3, while Magdalena peaked at No. 4 and Katerina at No. 6. The Maleeva sisters were instrumental to the rise of women’s tennis in Bulgaria. Due to the success of the Maleeva family, Bulgaria won its first Olympic tennis medal. Youlia also experienced her own success as an athlete, winning the Bulgarian Championship nine times throughout her career.

Donato Campagnoli: Donato Campagnoli officially works for the Coach Education System (ISF “Roberto Lombardi”) of FIT as a freelance advisor for the “Technical Area” since 2014, unofficially since 2002. Being part of the scientific task force of ISF, he works primarily as a lecturer, as a Player Analyst during the National Training Camps U10-18 at the FIT National Training Center and is in charge of the development of International relationships of the Coach Education. With a university background as a professional interpreter and an MBA in

“Management and Economics of Sport”, he has been a coach for professional ATP players for several years within his tennis academy.

Julie Coin: Julie recorded the biggest win of her career at the 2008 US Open, defeating world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic. Both ESPN and Sports Illustrated called the famous win one of the greatest upsets in tennis history. Her career-high singles ranking is world No. 60 (2009) and her career-high doubles ranking is world No. 49 (2010). As a collegiate athlete, Julie played at Clemson University, where she was an All-American, All-ACC, and was named the ACC Player of the Year, and holds numerous Clemson Women’s Tennis records. She now serves as a tennis coach at the FFT, where she inspires young women to achieve success at every level of the game.

Jure Koscak: Currently, Jure is a Life Coach and manages and guides athletes to live more fulfilling lives. He was a professional table tennis player from 1998 to 2011, and was the Slovenian Champion with U15, U18, U21, singles, doubles, mixed doubles, and team event wins. He also started his own company, Z.IGRO. He is passionate about advancing athletes in their personal and athletic goals, as his personal goals with life coaching including guiding his clients and athletes to better lives.

Emma Doyle: Emma is a world-class motivational speaker and a Tennis Australia

High Performance Tennis Coach. In tennis, she has experience as a touring professional, a talent development coach, and served as the Australian Junior Fed Cup Captain. She currently works as a keynote speaker, mentor, and coaching consultant in an effort to help others discover their inner coach and live the best story of their lives. She has worked with over 100,000 players, coaches, teams, and organizations. Currently, she specializes in positive mindset coaching, NLP, EI (Emotional Intelligence), and Workplace and Business Coaching. Additionally, Emma created and delivered a TEDx talk called “Unleashing Female Potential”.

Howard Green: Howard has been the Head of Strength & Conditioning at USN Bolton Arena High Performance Tennis Academy for 8 years. He is an accredited S&C coach with the UKSCA, a Certified Tennis Performance Specialist with the iTPA and has a First-Class Hons degree in Sports Coaching – including several coaching qualifications. Prior to coaching, Howard spent 6 years in the Royal Marines Commandos, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. He owns his own company, HGreenTennisFit. Howard is a tennis fitness coach and works with top WTA players. Formerly Howard was the S&C coach of Ana Ivanovic and currently works with Naomi Broady. Additionally, he spends time developing juniors tennis players.

Justine Henin: Justine spent a total of 117 weeks as the world No. 1 and was the year-end No. 1 in 2003/06/07. She won seven Grand Slam singles titles. Additionally, Henin captured the singles title at Roland-Garros four times throughout her storied carrier. Perhaps most impressively, she was a gold medalist at the 2004 Olympic Games and won the year-ending WTA Tour Championships in 2006 and 2007. She won 43 WTA singles titles throughout her career. At her tennis academy, Henin adapts training methods to every age and skill level, while focusing on building unique relationships with each individual athlete. She strives to create an adaptive learning environment where athletes have the resources to develop to their full potential.

Aleksandra Krunic: Aleksandra is a Russian-born Serbian professional tennis player. In January of 2018, she reached her career-best singles ranking, checking in at No. 45 in the world. Prior to her WTA Tour debut in 2010, Aleksandra was a dominant tennis player throughout her junior career. She began at the age of seven and dominated a majority of the matches played during the course of her junior career. At the 2014 US Open, she famously notched her first main draw match win and downed third-seed Petra Kvitova on the way to the fourth round of the tournament. In 2008, Aleksandra became the youngest International Tennis Federation winner, which would set the tone for her triumphant career. 

Carl Maes: One of the most experienced and respected coaches of female tennis players in the world, Carl joined the Belgian Tennis Federation in 1992 and specialized in the coaching of both senior and junior female tennis players. He worked with former US Open champion Kim Clijsters from the age of 12 and coached her exclusively between 1999 and 2002, during which Kim reached a Sony Ericsson WTA world ranking of No. 3. Carl was the captain of Belgium’s Fed Cup team, leading them to their only second ever final. Carl was formerly the LTA’s Head of Women’s Tennis, where he oversaw and developed the junior and senior women’s game in Britain. He is a former WTA board member.

Magdalena Maleeva: Magdalena is a former professional tennis player hailing from Bulgaria. Her long and successful career included a world No. 4 ranking in singles. In 2005, Magdalena retired from professional tennis after 16 years on the circuit and is now extremely active with an environmental organization, Gorichka.bg; they work to create public awareness about urgent environmental problems. Additionally, she created Harmonica, a brand for organic foods, and has a few organic food stores in Sofia under the brand Biomag. She is also a partner at the Maleeva tennis club. In 2011, Magdalena was voted the “100 Most Influential Women in Bulgaria” by Pari newspaper.

Natalia Medvedva: Natalia is a former professional Soviet and Ukrainian tennis

player. She played on the WTA tour from 1987 to 1998, winning four singles titles in Tennessee (US), Linz, Prague, and Essen. She won 12 doubles titles in her professional career and competed an outstanding 16 times for the Ukrainian Fed Cup Team. Additionally, she won the girls’ doubles title at the 1987 Wimbledon Championships alongside Natalia Zvereva. She also reached four Grand Slam quarterfinals at the Australian Open, US Open, French Open, and Wimbledon Championships. A total team player, she reemerged to the scene for the 2000 Fed Cup when her country was struggling for players.

Anja Prislan: Anja is a licensed ITF Tennis Coach based out of Slovenia and also holds an ATP Licensed GTPCA Level B certification as a coach. She is the winner of seven doubles WTA tournaments in Serbia, Croatia, India, Egypt, and Georgia, and was a Top 5 player in Slovenia. Additionally, she was ranked #450 in singles and #280 in doubles in the WTA. She currently boasts 7 year of coaching experience, including coaching WTA ranked player Janine Koleta from 2011 to 2012. From 2013 to 2017, she coached in the German junior development program in Stuttgart. Additionally, she coached WTA ranked Dalila Jakupovic from 2014 to 2015. Currently, Anja is a head coach in Punta Cana and has been for almost a year.

Selima Sfar: Formerly a professional Tunisian tennis player, Selima reached a career high of 75 in the world (2001) and is still the highest ever ranked female Tunisian and Arab player, breaking boundaries for Arab women tennis players. She won eleven professional singles tournaments and twenty doubles tournaments. She competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics and holds records for the Tunisian in the Fed Cup with the most wins, most singles wins, most doubles wins, and most ties played and the most years played. In 2011, she retired from professional tennis and has increased visibility in the sport for Arab female tennis players.

Rajesh Sharma: Rajesh works with high performance tennis players as a certified sports physiotherapist, performance tennis coach, certified nutrition coach, and strength and conditioning coach. His philosophy is to ensure his players experience minimum interruption from injury, and/or poor performances. Rajesh is passionate about self-empowering players (especially women), to equip them with all the necessary life skills and strategies, beyond one season. After helping a player from the Far East play their first tour event after 18 months (from beginner), his observations regarding the stereotypical behaviors towards women across the game has largely remained the same. He has dedicated his future towards helping shape women's future health and life successes beyond the circuit.

Oivind Sorvald: Currently, he is the Director of High Performance and Coach Education for the Norwegian Tennis Association (NTF), where he has conducted coach education courses for more than 20 years. Recently, Oivind established the TEN4 Academy in Oslo for the 25 best performance players in Norway. He created and organizes the annual PTR/Tennis Norway Symposium. Oivind also hosts PTR Certification workshops. He is a member of the Tennis Europe Development Committee. Over the past decade, Oivind has developed a program and a method for analyzing technical and tactical factors in the game. He has worked as an analyzer for several world class coaches for a couple of Top 10 world ranked female players.

Emma Wells: Emma is a self-described energetic and self-motivated individual, with her enthusiasm for life and tennis motivating others around her. If she sees a vision or challenge, she works at it with the help of people around her to bring the very best of her ability out. She is a sports enthusiast with a business focus, which is crucial in creating sustainability. Currently, she is part of the London Tennis Development Manager-GLL/Lawn Tennis Association. She works closely with the Tennis Foundation to increase disability focus within the region. She is also currently the Head of Tennis & Coach Recruitment with the USA Sport Group, coaching people from the ages of 3-18 years.

Noelle Van Lottum: Noelle is a former Dutch professional tennis player who played for France in the 1990s. She was a national youth champion both in Netherlands and France. Noelle played on the WTA Tour in 1987 until 1999, winning equally one singles and one doubles title. Her career-high singles ranking was World No. 57 (1993), and her career-high doubles ranking was World No. 59 (1992). Along with Virginie Buisson, she shares the record for the longest female match in the French Open, lasting four hours and seven minutes. She is currently the owner and director of a tennis school in the Netherlands. As a business owner, coach, and former successful tennis player, Noelle has a multidisciplinary background to bring to the WTCA conference.

Yuliya Ustyuzhanina: Yuliya started playing tennis at an early age. Her father brought Yuliya to Antey Tennis School (Kiev, Ukraine) at the age of 6. Growing fast in her abilities and gaining experience from the best coaches in the country, Yuliya obtained full scholarship from Nataliya Medvedeva to attend her Tennis Academy. Thanks to the support of her coaches she became the top player in Ukraine, and represented Ukraine in numerous tennis tournaments around the world. Yuliya became a tennis professional at the age of 16, winning numerous professional tournaments. Yuliya obtained a full scholarship at University in Hawaii, and graduated with honours with a Bachelor of Science.

Piotr Unierzyski: Piotr Unierzyski has been working at the University of Physical Education in Poznan for 30 years whilst at the same time has coached and worked with players of all levels; from beginner level to professional. Among other appointments, Piotr was the Polish National Coach and ITF touring team coach. He has educated over 1400 coaches in over 20 countries. Piotr’s areas of expertise include athlete development and talent identification, planning and periodisation, teaching methodology, technical and tactical training, factors affecting sport performance, performance analysis and testing procedures as well as coaches’ education programs.
