Welcome to the Exeter College Music Academy.
All students enrolled onto a music course at Exeter
College become a Music Academy student.
What is the Music Academy?
The Exeter College Music Academy is housed in the
Centre for Music and Performance (CMP) in the heart of
Exeter city. The Music Academy was set up in 2006 as an
additional experience for students studying music at
Exeter College, to provide exciting music opportunities
essential to young musicians progressing into this creative
industry. The Music Academy enhances and works within
the already successful music courses and department
that we have here. Throughout the year you will have
the opportunity to attend
highly subsidised Music Academy trips to live music
and/or music industry events
industry and performance based lectures and/or
workshops from professional musicians visiting the
CMP.
Past Music Academy events have included
song writing workshops
performance master classes
industry talks from music composers, producers &
performers
trips to see live music in Devon, London, Bristol &
Birmingham
Q&A performance sessions from Ex-Exeter College
music students offering insights into their individual
career paths since college and University/
Conservatoire experiences

FAQs
What is a Music Academy Grant—full and half award?
The Music Academy can offer a 50% OR 100% grant to cover
Music Academy membership costs. Music Academy Grant
applications are available to download via http://www.exe-
coll.ac.uk/1618/Academies/Music.aspx and paper copies are
available from the CMP Music Office. Deadline for grant
application is FRIDAY 19th SEPTEMBER.
How do I pay my Music Academy Silver Membership fee?
Please bring in £20 to the CMP music office by FRIDAY 19th
SEPTEMBER.
How do I sign up for Music Academy Gold Membership?
We will collect some details from you during induction week
and post home a Music Academy Welcome Pack containing
all details on how to join. On receipt of your pack, please fully complete, sign and return the Music Academy contract along
with your £150 (or grant application) to Iorwerth Pugh or Roz
Harding by FRIDAY 19th SEPTEMBER. You will then be assigned
an instrumental/vocal tutor, lesson day and lesson time. Once
this process is complete, you can begin your individual tuition.
Please make cheques payable to Exeter College with ‘Music
Academy’ and your name printed on the reverse.
Can non-music students at Exeter College join the Music
Academy to receive instrumental/vocal tuition?
Yes. Exeter College students NOT enrolled onto a music course
can access the Music Academy Gold Membership
Instrumental/Vocal tuition for the membership fee of £276.
Please see Iorwerth Pugh and/or Roz Harding, situated in the
CMP, for all Music Academy sign up queries.
Where will my instrumental/vocal lesson take place?
Instrumental and vocal lessons are provided on Exeter College
premises by Music Academy Instrumental/Vocal staff and are
co-ordinated to fit within your college timetable. We have
instrumental teaching rooms situated in Victoria House (Lower
Ground floor) and in the Centre for Music and Performance—
The Jimi Hendrix Guitar Room, The Wes Montgomery Guitar
Room and the John Bonham Drum Shack.
What is a Music Academy Ambassador?
As a Music Academy student you can become an
Ambassador for the Music Academy. Ambassador work could
be
playing in our house band for performances at the Exeter

an event
bringing bright new ideas into the Music Academy!

lecturers for any additional Music Academy action completed
by you. This could be staying behind after a gig to help pack
away, performing out of college hours for Music Academy gigs.
Each stamp is worth £1 and can be redeemed as payment for
Music Academy trips and events and the end of year Music
