The Master’s Degree, which is divided into two years of teaching and courses, is designed

to focalize the field of study, hence allowing the student to specialize in a specific field of

psychology.

The two years of the Master’s Degree (M1 et M2) are each divided into two semesters

(S1, S2, S3,S4).

All students having obtained their Bachelor Degree in Psychology from any French

university are immediately granted admission to the first year of the Master’s Degree in

Psychology.

For international students who did not study in France, admission to the first year Master’s

Degree is awarded once a board of admissions has examined the candidate’s complete

application.

Note that the successful completion of the first Master’s year does not guarantee one’s

admission to the second year of the Master’s program.

Admission to the 2nd year Master’s Degree (M2) is granted on the basis of the strength of

the candidate’s application. WARNING : places are limited.

The selection process for admission into M2 : without a doubt it is a serious barrier to be

overcome for students – even after 4 years of studying psychology this 5 th year is

necessary in order to obtain the legal right to practice as a licensed psychologist.

In addition, it is also possible for students who have been awarded the Master’s Degree to

apply for the Doctoral Degree. Henceforth, they can obtain the title of Doctor of

Psychology, once this additional three year program has been achieved.

To obtain the title of Doctor of Psychology: research work in a research group and

completion of a doctoral thesis from the University of Strasbourg.

From there, one may pass a test to become « Maître de Conférences » and then another

to become a « University Professor». Thereafter, one will be able to teach a university

course whilst simultaneously conducting research. Alternatively, one may pass a test

entitled « Chercheur » (Researcher) from a public institution (ex.CNRS), this opens the

possibility of being recruited by a private enterprise.
