The Dare to Soar Benefit will open at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015. We look forward to a fun evening of celebration. If Maria Montessori were alive today, she would use a smart phone! She was smart and forward thinking and used the

tools in her environment to her advantage.

This year’s Fund a Need will update MSLF’s audiovisual system. Enhanced sound and visual equipment will

allow our students to learn by exploring many new areas of technology.

Musical, theatrical and video opportunities will become realities for them as the ability to research and study

the world expands in new and exciting ways!

With state of the art equipment, we will host guest speakers, entertain guests, run epic school events, add

additional layers of support and communication to our security system, and provide a high quality sound

system to be used indoors and outdoors.

Imagine if you Dare—A MSLF Radio Station (WMLF?) that broadcasts from the Blue House to the main

campus early in the morning, that you listen to while you wait in the carpool circle. Imagine your children

DJing for Field Day, recording next year’s school play, filming interviews, and so much more.

With the right tools and the right learning environment, the sky’s the limit for a child’s learning. Let’s help

CLASROOM PROJECTS:

Toddler 1

This year the Toddler 1 class has created their “Dare to Soar” project using several different media. The

toddlers, with help from a few Upper Elementary friends, tore tissue paper into small pieces and used them to

create this textured canvas in beautiful shades of blue and green. The children also enjoyed using roller-

painting techniques to create the paper for the lovely tree.

The discovery of nature coincides with the awakening of the conscious mind in the young child. For the adult

who observes, guides, and nurtures this process, there can be no greater gift.

Toddler 2

The children in Toddler 2 are collaborating with the Adolescent Program Art Teacher, Colin Palombi, and

some Blue House students to create a canvas painting of balloons. The Benefit project offers a unique

opportunity for collaboration and community building. The adolescent students are enthusiastic about

supporting the work of the toddlers and the toddlers love to be part of the larger community---and they love

to get messy with paint!

Primary 1

Using watercolor paintings hand-painted by the children, Primary 1 has created a “book sculpture.” The

colorful butterflies burst forth from a book, just as the children burst with enthusiasm as they grow and learn.

This beautiful and unique book sculpture would look lovely in any room in your home and serve as a

reminder that when children are supported, they naturally find a way to “soar.”

Primary 2

There is freedom waiting for you,

On the breezes of the sky,

And you ask, “What if I fall?”

Oh but my darling,

What if you fly?”

This was the inspiration for the Primary 2 project. Where else can a child be free to fly ‘on the breezes of the

sky’, but on a tree swing!! The children each hand painted and strung wooden beads that will be used to a

adorn a beautifully handcrafted wooden rope swing engraved with a quote from the poem “What if I fall?”

Oh but my darling, What if you fly?” The beauty of this swing - it will accommodate children of any age! So

let your inner child out to play, and share the freedom of flying with your own children!!

Primary 4

Even those who Dare to Soar need to come down once in awhile for a rest! Imagine looking out your

backyard window and witnessing a family of birds taking a bath...and having a ball! What a beautiful sight

and learning experience to share with your family. Each Primary 4 student picked their tile and special paint

from an abundant palate of colors. After discussing birds and the birdbath, the children painted their tiles

using their imagination and heart. The painted tiles were then baked, glued, grouted and sealed on to the

basin. The mosaic and center tiles prominently pull it all together with our own MSLF bird logo, the OWL!

The children then hand painted paper birds and have elegantly displayed them on a mobile, with their photos,

a perfect addition to any bedroom. Our Primary 4 students have tiled a birdbath for our feathered friends and

your family to enjoy for years to come!

Primary 5

“Let Your Heart Soar As High It Will.” A.W. Tozer

The Primary 5 friends have created a very special and unique project this year. Inspired from the quote “Let

Your Hear Soar As It Will”, each child has designed their own string art heart mounted on a wooden board,

personalized with their name, and adorned with a charm of their choice. These individual hearts will be on

display surrounding the larger wooden wall art stenciled with the quote “Let Your Heart Soar “and a large

heart nailed in the middle. The heart has been strung with silk string in beautiful colors. The children have

enjoyed stringing the thread around the nails creating a neat design.

Our friends are also excited for you to see their own special heart they designed. You can purchase your

child’s heart for $20. The large wooden sign will be auctioned off at the benefit.

Lower Elementary 1

Those who reach touch the stars! This quote was the inspiration behind our LE 1 project. Whether we call

it daring to soar, striving to greater heights or in this case REACHING FOR THE STARS, it is quite simply what

our children do.

With this in mind, the children's hands were traced onto the fabric color of their choice and once cut out,

sewed and embellished them into their very own creation or representation of themselves. These were then

attached to a beautiful stretched fabric canvas, and stars - also sewn by the class - were scattered above their

outstretched hands in a literal representation of the inspiration.

When asked to pick a quote to best describe their work they chose a beautiful line from a Coldplay song -

"Look at the stars, look how they shine for you"

A unique item to cherish forever.

Lower Elementary 2

I want to sing....

Be the lucky one to own this delightful treasure made by the students of LE2. This one of a kind framed piece

features a collection of paper cut birds. Each student selected a bird and embellished their canvas to their

liking. The finished piece promises to bring years of warm smiles and cherished memories of you child's time

in lower elementary to your home.

Upper Elementary

Origami crane wishing tree

Upper elementary's colorful origami paper cranes are soaring into the future on a piece of buckthorn found in

the outdoor environment. The children's individual definitions of what "dare to soar" means to them have

been printed in gold and hang on beautiful red wish ribbons. The cranes will carry the children's wishes into

the universe to be manifested. Anytime a breeze catches these wishes, the fluttering of the gold writing on the

ribbons creates a magical effect and allows the wishes to take flight.

Adolescent

The Adolescent Community have painted a dinner dish set for six. Each piece has a unique scene inspired by

the nature and surroundings of the Blue House.

Mini- Live Auction Items

This new event offers attendees the opportunity to secure highly coveted items – without having to

hover over bid sheets in the silent auction. From 6pm – approx. 7:15pm, you will have the

opportunity to bid “live”on the very exciting items listed below.

TEACHER TREASURES

This year all teachers Toddler, Primary, Elementary and Adolescent will gather for a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 16th at 9:00 at MSLF! Parents will drop the children off at MSLF at 9:00 and children are to be picked up at 11:00. The children will have a pancake breakfast with their teachers in the multipurpose room, they will then disperse

with their classroom teachers where they will participate in a special activity planned just for them. Children will

also receive a framed photo with the teacher.
