The Christopher CadburyWetland Reserveat Upton Warren
Welcome toThe Christopher Cadbury
Wetland Reserveat Upton Warren
This nature reserve is in two distinct parts - the Moors Pools (freshwater) and the Flashes Pools (saline).
These pools were formed due to subsidence caused by underground salt extraction for the Droitwich salt trade.
The sailing pool between the Moors and Flashes was formed as a result of quarrying for materials to construct
the nearby M5 motorway in the 1960s. It provides an important link between the two, creating a signifi cant block
of habitat and a corridor allowing wildlife to move across the whole site.
These origins have resulted in a varied and unusual range of plants and wildlife across the reserve.
Please note: Paths can become muddy during the winter and in wet weather.Stout footwear is recommended.
BitternWinter visitor. This is a scarce bird, although its numbers in the UK are increasing slowly.
Protecting Wildlife for the Future
This is one of over 70 nature reserves owned and cared for by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust. These reserves form part of the Wildlife Trusts’ Living Landscapes vision. This identifi es a network of areas to protect for wildlife; enlarging, improving and joining them up across the UK.
