School News This Sunday's gospel and those for the two following Sun-days are very special in Lent. If we had catechumens to baptize, we would be praying special scrutiny prayers over them on these weekends. (We have no candidates or cate-chumens for this year...but we already have three candi-dates for this coming year. Anyone else? Someone you should invite?) This weekend we meet the Samaritan woman at the well, or better said, we meet Jesus at the well with her, and we are in for a great teaching moment. Slowly and gradually she is called to faith in God, in Him and in herself. Fittingly and not by accident, they are seated at a well, a source of life-giving water...so impor-tant always, but even more in their part of the world. They move in conversation from drinking water to the "water" of faith in God. You and I, as we hear all of this, should be thinking about Baptism, a Sacrament that will come later to share God's life with us. Our Baptismal faith in Jesus, our very gift of Baptism, comes from the very profound love of God for us. It is the very same Love that is seated at this well with the Samaritan woman. We are this woman, we have been called, we are disciples. So, how is the baptismal relationship you have with Christ Jesus? Alive and active? Mediocre and languishing? Dead "in the water," as it were? As much as He thirsted for this Samaritan woman, Jesus thirsts for each of our souls. We have been to the well with Him once already...is it living and vibrant? Lent, a time to be refreshed. We are loved. This Monday, the 20th of March, I will give a presentation on our journey in Lent. It will be at 6:30pm in Church and last till around 8:00. We will have a special gift for each household in attendance. Keep up your good efforts for Lent. Remember, it is more about restoring or deepening of your relationship with God than it is about having a perfect Lent...always time to start over. Fr. Jim

Please join us each Friday during Lent at 6:00 p.m. for the stations of the cross.

Prayer For Lent Dear Jesus, you spent 40 days in the desert before you began your ministry to the world. You resisted the temptations offered by the devil, saying no to worldly pleasures and power. Like the prophets before you, 40 days in the desert was preparation for the great mission of your life. As Lent begins, help us to make our lives pure and holy. Give us the grace to willingly make our own self-denials into personal deserts, which will prepare us for your work. Purify our souls in the crucible of this Lenten season, and make our hearts acceptable to you and your Father.

Amen.
