Aims of the workshop

To help make participants more aware of:

• The benefits and recommended levels of physical activity for young people

• The contents of the Active Club pack

• Enhancing physical activity provision in out of school care settings

• Developing and expanding activity programme in an out of school care setting

Physical Activity Recommendations

Main recommendations:

Children and young people should aim to participate in activity of at least moderate intensity for one hour every day

Young people who currently do little activity should participate in physical activity of at least moderate intensity for at least half an hour per day

• active play • cycling

• brisk walking • dance

• swimming • most sports

Physical Activity Recommendations

Additional recommendation:

At least twice a week, some activities should help

enhance and maintain muscular strength and

flexibility, and bone health

• climbing • gymnastics

• skipping • aerobics

• jumping • sports

• dance • basketball
