WELCOME FROM THE CHJA EQUITATION COMMITTEE
2 THE CONNECTICUT HUNTER & JUMPER ASSOCIATION
On behalf of the Equitation Committee of the ConnecticutHunter and Jumper Association, welcome to all the riders, families, and trainers! Last year was our 25th anniversary, and as we start our next 25 years, we have put together aFinals Weekend that is sure to be enjoyable for all. All thefamiliar elements are in place; accomplished judges, greatcourses, wonderful prizes for all, a super program that is atrue keepsake, the scrumptious complimentary buffets, an accommodating schedule, and a beautiful setting at theFairfield County Hunt Club.
The past year has been a challenging economic time foreveryone, but we have worked very hard to make sureFinals weekend will still represent a little bit of magic inyour show season. Everyone who qualifies has put greateffort into coming here, and you deserve the recognition. So look for a few surprises this year!
We hope you will have the time (and the ride!) of your life thisweekend, and we are very thankful for your support of theCHJA. While you are here, we hope you will remember to givea kind word to everyone who made it possible – your family, your trainer, your horse, your vet, groom and farrier, all ourincredibly generous sponsors, the CHJA volunteers (they are all so professional, you may forget they are volunteers!), andlastly, YOURSELF! 326 TH ANNUAL MEDAL FINALS, AUGUST 13 – 16, 2009
Todd Karn, a horse lover as long as he can remember, started riding Western at eight years old, but switched toEnglish by the time he was ten. Through his junior years he rode with Carol Molony and Kip Rosenthal, “two peoplethat have become life long friends.” He never owned his own horse as a junior, and worked in the family’s store toafford entry fees. But in 1976 he borrowed a retired horsefrom a friend, and under Kip’s very patient eye, qualified and rode in the Medal and Maclay Finals.
Todd rode while at Bennett College in Millbrook NY, andsoon after launched his professional career, starting at the Ox Ridge Hunt Club. He has ridden many talented horses, including “Chital,” a hunter purchased from Mr. & Mrs.William Steinkraus that excelled in the zone and placed at the National Horse Show in Regular Working Hunters. There was also “The Wizard,” the 1994 Regular ConformationHunter Champion at Devon, owned by the late Anne E.Dyson, a friend and wonderful client.
Todd received his judge’s card at the age of 25 and has judged many top shows, among them TheHampton Classic, Capital Challenge, Middleburg National, and the New England Medal Finals. Toddresides in Fayetteville, NY, near Syracuse, and continues to show, teach and bring along young prospects.
Scott Hofstetter currently resides at his farm, Copley Placein Ocala, Florida, where he owns and operates a full carehunter/jumper training facility.
As a junior rider, Scott won the 1986 ASPCA Maclay EquitationFinals. Now a professional, Scott is one of the country's leadinghunter riders and judges.
Some of his accomplishments include winning the LeadingRider honors at such shows as Devon, Capital Challenge, The Washington International, and the National Horse Show.
When not competing and showing, Scott also enjoys judgingand giving clinics throughout the country. Scott has judged atmany of the most prestigious competitions in the country, including the USEF Equitation Medal Finals, the Pony MedalFinals, Devon, The Washington International Horse Show, and The National Horse Show.
