Vision for the Athletic Training Profession
Athletic trainers are integral members of the healthcare, wellness and sport
communities, fully utilizing their knowledge, skills and abilities in the delivery of athletic training services that benefit the health and
wellness status of our nation.

Development of Four (4) Strategic Goals

201 MAATA Annual Business Meeting
Executive Committee on Education (ECE)Proposals and Recommendations
2012 MAATA Annual Business MeetingInvestigate the reformulation of the ECE and its committees to a broader structure to:
Identify and promote model practice in education
Serve as a forum for special interest groups related to academic faculty, clinical education, post professional education and continuing education and
facilitate scholarship and education.
2012 MAATA Annual Business Meeting
The NATA with support from the Strategic Alliance should conduct a detailed analysis specifically focused on
professional education in athletic training that will be completed by June 2014.
A key outcome of this analysis will be a determination of the most appropriate professional degree to position
athletic trainers to provide positive patient outcomes and ensure the longevity of the profession of athletic training.
2012 MAATA Annual Business Meeting
The NATA, in collaboration with the Strategic Alliance, should examine issues surrounding transition to clinical practice for newly certified athletic trainers, both
prior to and after certification.
2012 MAATA Annual Business Meeting
The NATA should transition the responsibilities for accreditation of post-
professional graduate degree programs and residency programs to the
Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
2012 MAATA Annual Business Meeting
The NATA Board of Directors is undertaking a comprehensive
analysis of the title ATHLETIC TRAINER to determine if this term
is the best description of who we are, and what we do?
2012 MAATA Annual Business Meeting
• Does this term allow our profession to maximize the strategic outcomes of Vision Quest?
• Whatever the outcome we as professionals must continue to use proper terminology in our day to day
communications with ourselves and our outside stakeholders if this is to be successful.
2012 MAATA Annual Business MeetingThe Procedure:
• There has been no predetermined outcome of this investigation!!!
• This process is being lead by incoming NATA President Jim Thornton and Russ Richardson D10 Director.
• It will involve an outside consultant to assist us.
• It will seek out a reasoned and thoughtful solution to this challenge base on the best evidence and as much as possible without the emotion that has tainted other
investigations.

Questions or Discussions On This Important Issue???
2012 MAATA Annual Business Meeting
Rotation for the Site of our Annual Business Meeting & Clinical Symposium
2012 MAATA Annual Business Meeting
Rationale: 1. To allow for a rotating site of our annual meeting to
allow all regions of the district the opportunity to host the MAATA Annual Meeting.
2. To better ensure financial stability with regards to our annual meeting by designating the Cavalier Hotel as the Preferred Hotel of the MAATA.
2012 MAATA Annual Business MeetingFor the years 2014-16 the meeting will be held at the Cavalier. In 2017 the
meeting would be moved to a southern portion of the district (Charlotte, NC, Greenville, SC and beach locations in southern North Carolina and South
Carolina). From 2018-2020 the meeting would return to the Cavalier. In 2021 the meeting would move to a western portion of the District (western VA,
western NC and West Virginia). The district would negotiate directly with the Cavalier during those years that the meeting is held at the Cavalier. The site
selection committee would, with the assistance of the NATA Meeting Planner (at no cost to the district), bring potential sites to the membership who would then vote/select the site during those years that the meeting is not held at the
Cavalier.
2012 MAATA Annual Business Meeting
This proposal was presented to the district council for consideration and discussion.
The 3-1-3-1 as outlined passed overwhelmingly.
