WELCOME TO THE 16th ANNUAL COLLAGE CONCERT!

We are thrilled you are joining us for our annual celebration of music at KU! Tonight’s

program showcases many of the diverse and wonderful talents of our musical

student body. As in the past, all proceeds from tonight’s concert benefit the Student

Opportunity Fund, a resource that helps support talented students in their pursuit

of musical and scholastic excellence. Last year the Student Opportunity Fund helped

students travel to regional and national professional conferences, provided funding

for three graduate students to present at an international conference, sent a chamber

group to the finals of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) National

Competition for Chamber Music, allowed three students to perform in Carnegie Hall

following competition wins, and helped students with national and international

opportunities that otherwise would not have been possible.

You will find an envelope in your program booklet that you can use to make a

contribution to the Student Opportunity Fund. Everyone who makes a donation

this evening will receive a special thank you gift. You may leave your envelope with

an attendant or take your envelope home and mail it with your gift to the School

of Music. By making a gift, you will be assisting KU music students in pursuing their

career dreams. Every little bit helps, so thank you very much for your consideration and

for supporting our students!

If you like what you hear tonight, we sincerely

hope you will come back to many of our 300+

performances presented throughout the year.

Many of these performances are free; please

check our concert calendar at music.ku.edu

throughout the year. Thank you for supporting

the KU School of Music!

Sincerely,

Robert Walzel, Dean

MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

Dear Friends of the School of Music,

Thank you for attending the University of Kansas School of Music’s 16th Annual Collage Concert. We’re pleased that you’ve joined us this evening to witness the superb artistry of KU music students and faculty.

My role at KU Endowment is to develop philanthropic support for the School of Music. Our goal is to help the school achieve its strategic vision to become the premiere destination music school in the heartland.

In 2012, KU Endowment publicly kicked off Far Above: The Campaign for Kansas, a comprehensive University-wide $1.2 billion campaign. One of the School of Music’s campaign priorities was to raise needed private capital to renovate Swarthout Recital Hall. Thanks to our generous alumni and friends, fundraising for Swarthout has been successful, and our beautifully renovated recital hall opened March 30 with a concert by celebrated pianist Richard Goode.

Another significant fundraising project focuses on replacing and updating the School of Music’s aging piano inventory. Seventy-seven instruments have been targeted for replacement in this $2.2 million project.

Beyond these capital needs, we remain focused on raising funds to create more undergraduate scholarships and graduate assistantships, both of which will help the School of Music attract and retain the most qualified students.

We’re fortunate to have a committed and dedicated community of friends and supporters who continue to invest in the future of the School of Music. We’re grateful for your sustained support.

To those of you who would like to explore philanthropic opportunities, large and small, for KU’s School of Music, I would be happy to visit with you. You may reach me by phone at (785) 832-7410, or by email at [email protected].

In the meantime, enjoy this evening’s performance. Thank you again for your support of the KU School of Music.
