From your Pastor’s Desk… Parish Festival: Come enjoy Great Food, Fun, and Fellow-

ship this weekend at our Parish Festival. It is our largest fundraiser of the year and we need everyone to make it a success.

Ireland??: The deadline for the Ireland trip is coming up quick. A decision has to be made in a couple weeks. If you have been on the fence about going, now is the time to register. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me or go on line at: http://www.magitravelinc.com/the-best-of-ireland.html

Destination Imagination Global Finals: Recently, both St. Pius X Parish and St. Leo the Great Parish hosted Bake Sales for the Destination Imagination Students to compete in the Global Finals in Nashville, TN. Last weekend we had two teams compete from St. Pius/St. Leo School. They younger team placed in the top half of the 82 teams that competed. The 8th grade team placed 2nd among

the 82 teams that competed. Besides the 2nd place finish in their division, they earned a Da Vinci Award. The Da Vinci Award was given to only a few of the teams out of over 1000 that competed. It was given to the St. Pius/St. Leo students for: “… their innovative and emotional project puzzle, which transformed from being mere puzzle pieces to becoming symbols for all of humanity joined together to prevent bullying; second, for their amazing songs and dances, which made the appraisers ‘feel like they were watching a Broadway musical’; and third, for their overall outstanding perfor-mance.” (Quoted from an email received from their coach/sponsor, Misty BanksNoon). As a parish and school community we congratu-

late both teams, their coaches/sponsors and parents. They repre-sented their parishes and school very well.

Trinity Sunday: The Easter Season is over but as we enter into Ordinary Time we have two ‘Theological Feasts’ that the Church celebrates on these first two Sundays after Easter. Today is The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity and next Sunday will be the So-lemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi).

As I contemplated this Solemnity of the Trinity I contemplat-ed on the Crucifix that we have in our Church. I’ve written about our Crucifix in the past but some bears repeating here. When we were remodeling the Church and looking for an image that would fit the

space and our community we discussed the way the image on the cross would be represented. John Lijba, took our suggestions and his own reflections and created the image we have in the Church today. In essence, it is a Eucharistic Image of Christ. Next week I’ll write more about the Eucharistic imagery but I want to comment to-day about how all Three Persons of the Trinity are represented.

It is obvious that Jesus is present by His Body. The image of the Holy Spirit is present in the flame like cut glass that are in the hands of Jesus. This represents the Holy Spirit present as Jesus of-fers His Body on the Cross. The image of the Father is represented by the fact that Jesus’s Body is not slumped. It is at the moment of

death. His head is bowed but His Body is still held up. It is the Fa-ther holding the Body of the Son taking the offering at the moment of death.

The Trinity is three distinct persons, yet at each moment of action of God, all three are present. They were all present at Cre-ation, on Calvary, at Pentecost and at each moment.

Discussions with the Pastor: You are invited to come and visit with an idea, concern, question, or if you would just like to talk. Feel free to come alone or with others. This week I will be available Tuesday, June 2nd, from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm and Thursday, June 4th, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Religious Education

News

One of the final topics of the Religious Education year that Level 8 weighed and considered was hefty: the presence of the Holy Spirit and how to recognize that presence in the ordinary happenings of life. To that end, catechist Doug Goebel shared with his group the book, “The Coming of the Holy Spirit,” by Robert Baden. He challenged Level 8 to be attentive to the nudging, the little voice inside, that encourages a response or initiates an action. It is a lifelong process to grow in awareness of the Spirit, who is constantly at work within humanity. But even at their young age, Mr. Goebel’s group shared that they are indeed cognizant of the Holy Spirit, especially during test times in school or when they are nervous. Mr. Goebel found their testaments a powerful witness of faith, and he prays that the group will grow even more keenly aware of the Spirit working for and through them during their high school years. Now that the 2014-2015 RE year has ended, registration for the 2015-2016 year begins. New families can register in the program throughout the summer. Check out the parish website under the tab Faith Formation, then Religious Education Program. Contact Patty Griffith, director, at 402-558-1898 or [email protected] for more information and/or to register. Registration forms are available on the website.

“Good News” From St. Pius X/St. Leo School

***Five of our 8th grade students were selected as Rotary Club Honor Roll students. This award is given to students in the 8th grade for their outstanding achievements in leadership, presence, scholarship and character. Every year it is difficult to choose these students since we are limited in the number we can choose and we have many who qualify for this honor. This year's worthy recipients of the Downtown Rotary Honor Roll Award were: Matthew Baysa, Marti Brohman, P.J. Mooney, Jolie Peal and Hannah Rodricks. These students were honored at a luncheon on May 6th at the CenturyLink Center. Congratulations to these young people for being selected for this prestigious award! ***Besides the academic scholarships that we told you about in March, Roncalli Catholic High School also gives Pride Scholarships. Pride Scholarships are awarded for leadership characteristics. The SPSL School students who received these awards were: Rachel Beck, Ivan Linenberger and Teddy Novotny. Congratulations to these students! Special Note: The school office will be closed at different times during the summer. When our office is open, our office hours during the day will be 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM. with time off for lunch. It’s always wise, during the summer to call ahead to make sure we are in the office at the particular time you’d like to come. Our school office number is 402-551-6667. *** If you have children in grades Pre-School to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for the next school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then register your child/ren when you decide to come to our school.
