he rest in peace!
Christmas Flowers: For those who would like to remember
someone with flowers this Christmas, special envelopes are
available at all exits.
A Thank you letter on behalf of Theo Lennartz: I would like to
thank all the people who made it happen. First, Kristen in the
office for making the tickets and keeping track of tickets, -
Turkey’s for roasting and how many kids will attend the luncheon
as well as their ages. Secondly, to the 11 parishioners who roasted
the turkeys. Next, the 10 kitchen helpers in preparing the food, as
well as the 6 Elf’s setting up the hall the day before. Finally, the
21 Elf’s who prepared and served the turkey luncheon on Sunday
December 15th
and all the people who pitched in on the clean up. A
special thank you goes out to the 29 families who brought a salad
to the affair. With salads like, Taboulhi, Rice, Pasta, Greek,
Potatoe, Cole Slaw, Broccoli, Quinoa, Bean, Pea, Green and
Mixed, one has to make difficult decisions on what to choose from.
Then we had 37 families who delighted us with desserts like
Banana & Walnut Loaf, Carrot Cake, Cheese Cake, Baklava,
Cream Puffs, and all the different types of Squares, Brownies,
Cookies, Lemon Tarts, Cupcakes, Trifle, Butter Tarts, Lemon
Meringue Mini Pies, Pecan Pie, Pumpkin and Nanaimo Bars. I was
looking forward to try as many desserts as possible to keep my full
figure, but sadly for me I missed out on dessert. As they say, better
luck next time! We also very much appreciate the Donations at the
entrance. Santa had to come early that day because of his busy
schedule. There were kids in Humphrey waiting for him as well.
We hope the 30 children enjoyed the appearance by Santa and his
helper. Some the children were just a little shy but others were just
eager to get onto Santa’s lap, like the one Lady who had her picture
taken with Santa. All in all, 189 people had tickets and we also
had 8 take outs. Again a special thanks to Obdams for the flowers
on the tables. Best of all, we’d like to thank you, family and
friends for attending. Lastly, thank you to Pat Dudas our MC for
the affair!

Gospel Luke 2.16-21 www.loyolapress.com
The shepherds find Jesus in a manger in Bethlehem.
Gospel Reflection
Today's reading is a continuation from the Gospel proclaimed at
the Christmas Mass at midnight. In it the shepherds act upon the
message they receive from the angel and go to find Jesus in the
manger in Bethlehem. In their visit to the manger, the shepherds
find things just as the angel had said. The shepherds' visit,
therefore, is a moment of fulfillment, manifestation, and the
beginning of the salvation we receive through Christ.
In the context of today's Solemnity, this reading also helps us focus
on Mary as the Mother of God. The reading tells us at least three
things about Mary as a mother. First, Mary is described as a
reflective person, keeping the reports of the shepherds in her heart.
Second, we are reminded of how obedient Mary was to God when
she named the baby Jesus as the angel Gabriel had directed. Third,
this reading shows Mary and Joseph faithfully observing their
Jewish tradition by having Jesus circumcised.
Mary's faithfulness to God is evident in all three of these things.
Her reflection upon the events in her life indicates that she was a
person of prayer. This prayer made possible her obedience to God
and God's will, even if the outcome was not clear. Finally, her
faithfulness to a community of faith grounded her relationship with
God and enabled her to participate in God's plan of salvation.
Because of Mary's faithfulness to God, she was able to receive the
gift of God's Son and accept her role in God's plan for salvation.
By doing so, she models for us the path of discipleship and is also
called Mother of the Church.
Our call to discipleship also includes these three aspects. First,
discipleship means prayer and reflection on the events of our lives
that we might see God's presence and work in our lives. Second,
discipleship means obedience to God and God's will. Third,
discipleship includes fidelity to a community of faith.
Update: Many thanks to those generously donated for second
collection the weekend of November 23 & 24th. We were able to
send $1,054.26 to the Order of Sons of Mary Mother of Mercy, for
the formation of their priests in Nigeria.
Support Needed: During the Season of Advent let us intensify our
efforts in supporting the need for food in our community. Bring an
item or a bag of non-perishable food when you come to church as
your offering to the Lord. Collected food is shared between
Harvest Share & Salvation Army.
