Welcome to St Margaret’s Church IfieldSunday 6th August 2017

Transfiguration

All are welcome to St Margaret’s and we encourage all to take part fully in this service. If you have mobility issues that make it difficult for you to

come and receive communion or laying-on-of-hands for healing, should you want to, then do please notify our sides-people, and we will come to you.

Please do stay for coffee served at the back of church after the service. There is a toilet at the back of church should you need to use it during the

service.

THE GATHERINGWe stand and sing:Hymn 692: Timothy Dudley-Smith. Copyright © Timothy Dudley-Smith, Oxford University Press

TELL OUT, MY SOUL, the greatness of the Lord! Unnumbered blessings, give my spirit voice; tender to me the promise of his word; in God my Saviour shall my heart rejoice.

Tell out, my soul, the greatness of His name! Make known His might, the deeds his arm has done; his mercy sure, from age to age the same; his holy name-the Lord, the Mighty One.

Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his might! Pow’rs and dominions lay their glory by.Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight, The hungry fed, the humble lifted high.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Tell out, my soul, the glories of His word! Firm is his promise, and His mercy sure: Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord to children's children and for evermore!

THE GREETING

Celebrant The Lord be with youAll and also with you

THE PRAYER OF PREPARATION

All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYERS OF PENITENCE

Celebrant Our Lord Jesus Christ said: The first commandment is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength’. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. There is no other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

All Amen. Lord have mercy.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Celebrant When Christ appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. As he is pure, all who have grasped this hope make themselves pure.So let us confess our sins that mar his image in us.

All Lord our God, in our sin we have avoided your call. Our love for you is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes away early. Have mercy on us; deliver us from judgement; bind up our wounds and revive us; in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Celebrant The Lord enrich us with his grace, and nourish us with his blessing; the Lord defend us in trouble and keep us from all evil; the Lord accept our prayers, and absolve us from our offences, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.

All Amen.

Celebrant Father in heaven, whose Son Jesus Christ was wonderfully transfigured before chosen witnesses upon the holy mountain, and spoke of the exodus he would accomplish at Jerusalem: give us strength so to hear his voice and bear our cross that in the world to come we may see him as he is; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Dark and cheerless is the morn unaccompanied by thee; joyless is the day’s return, till thy mercy’s beams I see, till they inward light impart, glad my eyes, and warm my heart.

Visit then this soul of mine, pierce the gloom of sin and grief; fill me, radiancy divine, scatter all my unbelief; more and more thyself display, shinning to the perfect day.

THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENTWe stand to share the peace:The PeaceCelebrant Christ is our peace. He has reconciled us to God in one

body by the cross. We meet in his name and share his peace.

The peace of the Lord be always with you

All And also with you.

Let us offer one another a sign of peace.

As the Body of Christ receives its life from God, and offers its life to God, so we, as members of that Body, greet each other in love.

All It is right to give thanks and praise.

Celebrant It is indeed right and good, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give you thanks, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. For on this day he revealed his glory before his chosen witnesses and filled with divine splendour the human flesh in which he is one with us. So he prepared his disciples to bear the scandal of the cross and showed that in the Church, his body, the same glory would be fulfilled that shone forth from him, its head. And so with joyful hearts we echo on earth the song of the angels in heaven as they praise your glory without end:

A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing LtdAll Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

How wonderful the work of your hands, O Lord. As a mother tenderly gathers her children, you embraced a people as your own. When they turned away and rebelled your love remained steadfast. From them you raised up Jesus our Saviour, born of Mary, to be the living bread, in whom all our hungers are satisfied. He offered his life for sinners, and with a love stronger than death he opened wide his arms on the cross.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Page 10: Welcome to St Margaret’s Church Ifield file · Web viewserved at the back of church. after the service. There is a . ... Oxford University Press. TELL OUT, ... is word; i. n God

On the night before he died, he came to supper with his friends and, taking bread, he gave you thanks. He broke it and gave it to them, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine, he gave you thanks, and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

Praise to you Lord Jesus:All Dying you destroyed our death,

Rising you restored our life:Lord Jesus, come in glory.

Father, we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross; we remember his dying and rising in glory, and we rejoice that he intercedes for us at your right hand. Pour out your Holy Spirit as we bring before you these gifts of your creation; may they be for us the body and blood of your dear Son. As we eat and drink these holy things in your presence, form us in the likeness of Christ, and build us into a living temple to your glory. Remember, Lord, your Church in every land. Reveal her unity, guard her faith, and preserve her in peace.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

Bring us at the last with St Margaret and all the saintsto the vision of that eternal splendour for which you have created us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, by whom, with whom, and in whom, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven, we worship you, Father almighty, in songs of everlasting praise:

All Blessing and honour and glory and powerbe yours for ever and ever. Amen.

The Lord’s PrayerAll Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins,as we forgive those who sin against us.Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Breaking of the BreadThe Priest breaks the consecrated bread

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. All Though we are many, we are one body,

because we all share in one bread.

‘Accept one another for the glory of God, as Christ has accepted you.’ (Romans 15:7)

The Giving of CommunionCelebrant Come, not because you are strong, but because you

are weak. Come, not because any goodness of your own gives you any right to come, but because you need mercy and help. Come, because you love the Lord a little, and would like to love him more. Come, because he loves you and gave himself for you.

We sing the Agnus Dei. A Gregory Murray, OSB 1905-1992©1975, 1987 McCrimmon Publishing Ltd

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world: grant us peace.

All are welcome to either come and receive Communion or a blessing. If you would like a blessing rather than to receive Communion (the bread and

wine) then please keep hold of your service sheet as you approach the servers at front of the church.

Laying on of hands for healing is offered in the south aisle chapel during the distribution of communion. This ministry is offered for your own

needs or for someone who maybe on your heart and mind at this time.

Those who are going into hospital in the coming week, or for some other reason, and who would like to be anointed with oil of healing and prayed for by a priest please do have a word with a priest after the service – they

will gladly offer you this ministry.

Communion Hymns

Hymn 323: Suzanne Toolan. Copyright © 1966 G.I A. Publications Inc.

I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE.You who come to me shall not hunger;and who believe in me shall not thirst. No one can come to meunless the Father beckons.

And I will raise you up,and I will raise you up,and I will raise you up on the last day.

The bread that I will giveis my flesh for the life of the world, and if you eat of this bread, you shall live for ever, you shall live for ever.

Unless you eatof the flesh of the Son of Man,and drink of his blood, and drink of his blood,You shall not have life within you.

I am the resurrection,I am the life.If you believe in me,Even though you die,You shall live for ever.

Graham Kendrick. Copyright © 1987 Make Way Music.

LORD THE LIGHT OF YOUR LOVE is shining, in the midst of the darkness, shining; Jesus, Light the World, shine upon us,set us free by the truth you now bring us. Shine on me, shine on me.

Shine Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory; blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire. Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy; send forth your word, Lord and let there be light.

Lord, I come to your awesome presence, from the shadows into your radiance; by the blood I may enter your brightness, search me, try me, consume all my darkness. Shine on me, shine on me.

As we gaze on your kingly brightness, so our faces display your likeness, ever changing from glory to glory; mirrored here may our lives tell your story. Shine on me, shine on me.
