“I am sending him, that is, my own heart, back to you. I should have liked to retain him for myself, so

that he might serve me on your behalf in my imprisonment for the gospel, but I did not want to do any-

thing without your consent, so that the good you do might not be forced but voluntary.” Philemon 9-10,

Once again we were able to help someone out, this time parishioners who fell behind on their oil bill and need a bridge to help them catch up and get back on their feet. They are grateful, as am I for the generosity you show to this fund that allows us to help those in need. Fr John and Fr Jacques

Thank you again to all of you for your prayers and good wishes for my recovery. I had no idea there were so many dog-themed Get-Well Cards! Orion has been vacationing in NY with my sister's family, chasing deer and fox. He is home now so he will make sure my recovery continues in the right direction.

God bless, Fr John

23rd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 8, 2019

PARISH PICNIC Saturday, Sept. 21 following 4 PM Mass

Come one and All! On September 21 after the 4pm Vigil Mass, come for hot dogs, hamburgers and sides - and lots of faith and

friendship. The picnic is free for all registered parishioners, but we need to have some idea of how many to expect so we can be pre-pared - you don't have to attend the Vigil Mass to attend the picnic! Just give us a call at the rectory, 442-7470, Monday-Thursday, be-

tween 10:00 and 4:00 or Friday from 10 to noon, or drop a note in the collection basket: or sign up on the sheets on the clipboards at the back of the church. Let us know if you'd like to volun-

teer to help out in some way!

The event will be held on the side lawn between the elevator and the back door, under a tent. 50/50 raffle

We will also be rededicating the chapel in the former convent (now the

Religious Education Center) in honor of Sr. Barbara.

We will need help with set-up and clean-up of tables and chairs, etc. We are also looking for desserts.

We do ask, honor system, that guests make a free will offering of $5

whether you are coming alone or with your family. And don't forget, a food collection will take place in the parish hall to assist the

St Joseph Food Bank.

"People don’t want to go to the dump and have a picnic, They want to go out to a beautiful place and enjoy their day. And so I think our job is to try to take the environment, take what the good Lord has given us, and expand upon it or enhance it, without destroying it.”—Jack Nicklaus

From Fr John:

Our good works are for the good of others “ ‘You are the salt of the earth.’ It is not for your own sake, but for the world’s sake that the Word has been entrusted to you...Therefore Christ requires of each of us those virtues which are especially useful and even necessary if we are to carry the burdens of many. For those who are kindly, modest, merciful and just will not keep their good works to themselves but for the good of others. Again, the one who is clean of heart, a peacemaker and ardent for truth will order his life so as to contrib-ute to the common good.” God Bless

St John Chrysostom (d.470)
