Schedules can be found on page 4
God of all, we pray as one, that we may be one, just as the Lord Jesus prayed we may be one in Him. Your son Jesus compels us to be reconciled to one another. May our spirits be joined to your Holy Spirit, that we may witness to the visible unity of your Church. May we all recognize that we are truly one with you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit and grow together in peace. We ask this in the name of Jesus our Lord.
Amen

Confession has benefits. Here are ten
1. Confidentiality guaranteed.
2. Housekeeping for the soul. 3. A balm for the desire for re-venge. When you have been forgiven you can forgive others. If the perfect Jesus forgives me, who am I to want to avenge the slights in my life. Think: “Why did they promote him over me?’ or “Mom played favorites!”
4. Low cost therapy. 5. Forced time to think. 6. Contribution toward world peace. 7. A better neighborhood. 8. Realistic self-perception. 9. One more benefit of being Catholic. 10. Closeness to God.

Can you imagine what kind of response I would get if I
asked my three children, "Who would like to volunteer
to clean up the kitchen a*er dinner today?" Six eyeballs
staring at me like I had two heads! If I couch my re-
quest in terms of volunteerism, I have suggested that
they don't have any real ownership in this ma$er. Per-
haps they do some#mes think that their mother and I
are simply hired hands to take care of them, but rest
assured, I have not received a paycheck for services
rendered lately.
When you and I give a dona#on of blood, we volunteer
our #me and blood to the Red Cross. The Red Cross
does not employ most of us, nor do we own a part of
the Red Cross. We can only volunteer ourselves for the
cause.
As parishioners we are part of a parish family. We be-
long to our parish community. We do not visit on a Sun-
day morning, since we cannot visit a place that is home.
The call of the body of Christ occurs in every parish and
our response should be that of the psalmist, "Here am
I, Lord; I come to do your will." Real stewardship never
counts the cost and never asks for volunteers. We step
forward because we belong to something greater than
ourselves and the head of that community is Jesus.
A*er dinner at my house, someone needs to clean up
the kitchen. In your parish community, someone needs
to respond to the call of Jesus. In both cases, no volun-
teers are needed. We will rely on family instead.

2017!
JANUARY 15, 2017
2nd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
"Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God." John the Baptist had an im-portant message to impart. He was called by God to prepare the people of Israel to recog-nize Jesus' true identity. In a sense, he helped establish credibility for Christ by con-firming that he was in fact the Messiah. Jesus didn't just have to claim it on his own; John al-so "testified" to the fact. We, of course, also benefit from the witness of John the Baptist rec-
orded for us in the Gospels. And we have additional wit-nesses from the rest of the people throughout the Gospels who knew and recognized Jesus as the Son of God. But we also have the benefit of two thou-sand years of Church history! We have countless testimonies of saints and believers throughout the centuries who have known Jesus in their own lives and acted accordingly.
This raises two questions. First, are we willing to believe these testimonies from those who have gone before us? Consider
how much credence we give to the experiences and the stories of our forefathers and fore-mothers in the faith--whether they are blood relatives or members of the larger com-munion of saints. Sometimes these personal accounts of coming to know the Lord are much more powerful than any "proof" or intellectual proposal about Christianity. They do re-quire a degree of faith and trust, but they nonetheless provide us with real evidence about the impact of being close to Christ.

Extending a hand of care
Saint Joseph is in the pilot phase and working to form a Mentor pro-gram. As a mentor you will be asked to walk with an individual or family and to help them be$er understand the customs, standards and lan-guage.
Saint Joseph and Jasper is built on the hard work of immigrants. Just a few genera#ons ago a group of Ger-mans moved to Dubois County, they did not speak the language, they did not know the culture and their Church ac#vely reached out and wel-comed them. Father Joseph Kundek was the answer to their prayers.

FAMILY OF THE MONTH
The Jasper Knights of Columbus has officially brought back the Family of the Month program. Each month, we will name a family we caught “doing something right.” We are looking to identify member families who demonstrate an authentic Christian lifestyle. If you have some-one you would like to nominate for this honor, please email our Family Director: [email protected], or call Chad at 812-630-6656.
Each month, the Supreme Council in New Have, Connecticut draws at random, 100 names from Family of the Month submissions, to each re-ceive a Holy Family plaque. We do this, to celebrate family, and to edify our membership.
Please join us in congratulating our newest Families of the Month of January, the David and Anita Seger Family.
March 18, 2017 We will spend the day celebrating the 175th anniversary of the opening of Saint Joseph School, the first Mission School estab-lished by Saint Mother Theodore and the Sisters of Providence.
There will be multiple activities that day including Mass at 4:00 pm, Bishop Thompson, Cele-brant. A donor has also funded a presentation on the life of Saint Mother Theodore.
It will be a great day in our histo-ry. Save the date now. More infor-mation will be here soon.

ANGEL TREE PROJECT 2016
Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2016 Toy Drive a huge suc-cess. With your help we were able to make sure that 191 families and 592 children had a wonderful Christmas. Each child received two toys. Your support and generosity made all of this possible. God Bless you all!
We need to thank a lot to wonderful people who helped us on this year project. Thank you to a very special couple who for years helped our pro-gram with a memorial donation for their deceased family members. Thank you to another lovely lady who made a donation for her deceased family. It was greatly appreciated.
Thank you to the many volunteers who helped us this year! To the Group That Tagged the angels, to the ladies who put the angels on the trees at all the masses. To the Boy Scouts and individuals who helped carry all of the gift bags down on distribution day,. For the girls who worked the registra-tion table, to the runners who brought out bags for the families. Also a very big thank you for the gentleman that was a jack of all trades who helped us by doing whatever needed to be done on distribution day!
Our parish is a compassionate parish full of wonderful and caring people!! Because of your support 592 children had a fantastic Christmas. You have all answered Gods call.
