Welcome to Reinventing Space 2015

Held annually, Reinventing Space (RIspace) is a conference and exhibition dedicated to one of the fastest growing sectors:low cost access to, and utilisation of, space.

The global economic climate is creating demand to reduce expenditure, leading to new challenges and opportunities inworld space. The need to create dramatically reduced-cost, more responsive systems and launchers capable of deliveringto space quickly, cheaply and reliably has never been more vital.

RIspace brings together industry, agency, government, financiers, academia and end users for a second-to-nonenetworking opportunity in the low cost access arena.

The 13th Reinventing Space conference and exhibition takes place at the Randolph Hotel in Oxford betweenTuesday 10 and Thursday 12 November 2015.

The host country for this year's conference, the United Kingdom, has a strategy to grow its share to over 10% of the world space market by 2030 – amarket forecast to be worth at least £400 bn by that year. Oxford is not only an outstanding centre of academia known throughout the world, but isalso close to many main players of the British space industry in Harwell and Swindon.

Attending RIspace is the premier worldwide opportunity to meet the innovators vital for the future direction of space.

If you are interested in sponsorship or exhibiting, the Reinventing Space conference and exhibition is an exceptional opportunity to increaseawareness for your business across the sector. The detailed sponsorship brochure is available online.

Who comes to RIspace?

The annual RIspace conference began in 2003, in the wake of the 9/11 attacks and looked at 'responsive space'. This discipline originally focused on USmilitary needs - adapting space capabilities to changing national security requirements.

As the conference has developed it has refocused on all aspects of low cost access to space – from launchers to cubesats; from improved optics for Earthobservation to ion drives for long-distance propulsion. Technological advances drive the international space effort - civil, military and commercial space.RIspace sessions and panels look at finding ways to work together, making things happen.

Attendees, authors and keynotes come from many different spheres:

Decision-makers from space agencies and national space programmes Space innovators and visionaries CEOs and leading executives Government, law and regulatory representatives Students and young professionals Engineers and scientists from cutting-edge companies Academics from all space disciplines Space financiers, entrepreneurs, seed funders and crowdfunders Satellite owners and satellite operators Commercial and New Space industry Leaders from military and civilian space Members of the general public with an interest in the future direction of space

During RIspace 2014, the following companies and organisations were represented:

Technical presentations at RIspace

In the months leading up until the conference, the Call For Abstracts period takes place.

Papers are welcomed in the following areas:-

New ways of doing business in spaceHow do we make money on affordable and responsive space missions?

Tactical space systemsHow do we best serve the needs of defence; civilian missions; emergency responders?

Interplanetary missionsCan we use new technology to explore the Solar System at dramatically lower cost?

New methods, processes, and technologiesCan we use them to make major reductions in the cost of space missions?

New application areas for reduced-cost space systemsWhich ones can take advantage of newer, much-lower-cost systems?

How do we educate and motivate the coming generation? Without them there won't be any reinvention of space

The RIspace Programme Committee evaluates the papers and selects the ones which are suitable for presentation or for a poster session. A list of 2014 RIspace papers can be seen here.

For the 13th Reinventing Space Conference to be held in November 2015, the Call For Abstracts opens on Monday 4 May.

RIspace 2015 comes to Oxford

Last year's event was acclaimed as a rather special affair. It was held at the Royal Society in London, the home of Britishscience since the 1600s. It was not only the largest space conference in the low cost sector in 2014 but maybe the onlyone where 98% of attendees found the venue exceeded their expectations!

We have chosen this year to come to Oxford for a variety of excellent academic reasons but also because it is very nearto the heart of the UK space industry. Nearby Harwell is the centre of the UK government 20-year strategy to capture10% of the global space market.

Oxford, the City of Dreaming Spires, is famous the world over for its 800-year-old University and place in history.

The city is a bustling cosmopolitan place with its ancient colleges, but also home also to a growing hi-tech community.

Outside of our packed programme, there is plenty to do. Whether its visiting one of the historic museums or colleges, going out for a drink or a meal, taking in a show or holiday shopping, Oxford has it all.

What I liked about RIspace:

“The venue was terrific. The presentations nearly all interesting, with a nice break-up of exciting announcements like Lunar Mission One etc. The exhibition areas were full of interesting information. The reception was brilliant, including drinks on the Wednesday. ”

RIspace 2015 venue and accommodation

We have been very selective in choosing this year's venue. No anonymous airport hotel, the Randolph Hotel is the city's mostprestigious and bang in the middle of Oxford – opposite the Ashmolean Museum. The main conference will be held in theRandolph's Ballroom and the adjacent exhibition in both the hotel's Ballroom Foyer and Lancaster Suites.

It is a very easy stroll from the venue for the Wednesday evening conference dinner at the Divinity School of the Bodleian Library –the oldest building of the University of Oxford.

The venue is near to all of the main colleges - it is term-time in Oxford during mid November and the atmosphere is particularlyspecial at this time of year.

You can combine the conference with accommodation at the Randolph. The RIspace rates are:

• Classic double bedrooms (single occupancy) with breakfast @ £175.00 per room, per night.

• Executive double bedrooms (single occupancy) with breakfast @ £215.00 per room, per night.

• Classic Suite (single occupancy) with breakfast @ £295.00 per room, per night.

Alongside the Randolph Hotel, you will find a wide range of hotels, guest houses, and self-catering accommodation in the city to suit all budgets.

What I liked about RIspace:

“People networking, keynote speeches, the spirit of collaboration in finding ways to re-think at the space activities in a pragmatic way ”

RIspace 2015 conference dinner

Wednesday's conference dinner will take place within the Divinity School of the Bodleian Library. Thisvenue was built in 1488 for the teaching of theology. With its elaborately vaulted ceiling and its 455carved bosses, it is a masterpiece of English Gothic architecture. This splendid room is theUniversity's earliest purpose built teaching room, and its first examination hall.

It has a long academic history and a rather shorter cinematic one – it also doubled up as HogwartsInfirmary in many Harry Potter movies.

The Conference Dinner is available for sponsorship. Sponsors may arrange keynotes or otherpresentations to take place during the Dinner. Please see the sponsor page on the website.

What I liked about RIspace:
