Welcome to
Reception!
What is Transition? It is the period that
covers the end of nursery and the beginning of school.
During this time we provide opportunities for the children to experience their new learning environment.
Reasons for Transition Opportunity for children to
get to know their teachers and peers.
Opportunity for children to get familiarised with the classroom and where things are.
Helps children to make a happy and confident start to school.
Transition Dates for Your Diary
Wednesday 4th July 9.30- 12pm
Friday 13th July 9.30 -12pm
Wednesday 18th July 9.30- 12pm
The first week...
To support children in this very big move into school there is a phased introduction into full time school.
Monday 3rd September will be your child’s first day at school.
The first week your child will attend mornings only (8.50am – 12.00pm).
The next few weeks...
For the week commencing 10th
September your child will stay for lunch and will need to be collected at 1.30pm.
From the 17th September – your child will attend FULL TIME.
The School DayWhen you arrive, come into the main playground.
Morning Club – Early Birds (7.45am every morning).
Gates open at 8:40am and the bell is goes at 8.50am, please wait with your child at the wooden gate by the reception playground.
You are welcome to come in with your child but please leave as soon as they are settled.
I always try and come into the playground before the bell so that is usually a good time to catch me with messages. Alternatively, please email or call the school
The end of the day...The school day finishes at 3.20pm.
When your child starts full time you can come into the main playground from 3.15pm.
At 3.20pm, please wait at the wooden gate. We will open the doors and I will call your child to come and meet you.
If the usual person is NOT collecting your child please confirm in writing.
If it is last minute, please call the office.
Parrots Club after school club is also available.
Snacks and drinks
Children will be provided with a piece of fruit to eat each morning.
Please complete the milk form in your pack. Milk is free until your child is 5.
Please provide a named sports-type bottle for children to keep in class. We can refill it if needed. Please put this in the drinks tray in the classroom.
Lunch
School dinners are free to children in Reception. Menus are available each half term
Packed lunch: Please make sure the lunchbox and drinks bottle is named. Please also ensure that it is completely free from nuts.
The School Day... Day starts at 8.50am
10.30am -10.50am –playtime –playground buddy system
10.50am – 12.15pm – second session
12.15pm - 1.15pm – lunch and playtime.
1.15pm – 3.20pm – afternoon session
2.50pm – 3.10pm – collective worship
3.20pm – home time
Getting ready for school
In the booklet ‘Getting Ready for School’ there are ideas to help you support your child prepare for school.
UniformGirls – summer: Dresses in any style in royal blue and white gingham check
material.
Grey skirt or trousers
White shirt & tie
White socks
Girls – winter: Royal blue jumper or cardigan
White blouse
Grey skirt, pinafore dress or trousers (not fashion trousers)
School tie
Royal blue or grey tights (optional)
Please make sure that everything is all named throughout the year
Uniform Boys - summer Grey shorts or trousers
White shirt and school tie
Grey socks
Boys – winter Grey trousers

Please make sure that everything is all named throughout the year.
Shoes should be of leather or a leather-type material. Sandals, trainers and fashion boots are not considered appropriate school wear. Socks or tights must be worn with shoes.

Black plimsolls or trainers
P.E. kit is best kept in a drawstring bag which can be left at school.
As we encourage outside activity, it is advisable for your child to keep a pair of wellington boots in school.
