Ready Steady Go
Key Persons Role
Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them
to fulfil their potential. Good parenting and high quality early learning provide the
foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow
up.
Each child is assigned a key person which is a safe guarding and welfare requirement.
The key person helps to ensure that every child’s learning and development is
tailored to meet their individual needs and supports both child and parent/carer in
becoming familiar with their new setting and surroundings.
The child’s key person will become a familiar face and a significant person mentoring
your child’s progression and achievements and sharing information with you. This
will be done by working in partnership with you and with observations and photo
evidence in your child’s individual learning diary covering all the early years seven
areas of learning as follows:-
Prime Areas of Learning
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication and Language
Physical Development
Specific Areas of Learning
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding of the world
Expressive arts and design
If you have any questions please feel welcome to speak to the person in charge of your
child’s key person at your setting.
Ready Steady Go

room your child is in) and must be signed into the building by a
parent/carer. We also have a communication book (child’s diary) for
parents/carers to add any information, if they feel they do not have
chance to speak with a member of the team. Our parent involvement
officer (Lesley) is also available to assist our parents and carers at any
time.
• If you are arranging another person to collect your child, please ensure
they have your child’s correct password and they are carrying some form
of identification; i.e.: Driving license, Passport, etc. They must be over
the age of 18 years.
• When leaving the building, please be aware of the main road. You will be
solely responsible for your child once collected..

Guidance Pack
• The EYFS sets standards to enable Ready Steady Go to reflect the rich
and personalised experience that many parents/ carers give their
children at home. We deliver individual learning and development of the
children and give them the best start they deserve. Every child is
supported individually to make progress at their own pace. Children
need to be stretched not pushed beyond their capabilities. This will
enable them to continue their development skills and next steps of
learning through play based activities.
How do you know that your child is learning?
At Ready Steady Go, we will put together a learning diary for your child which
consists of photos of your child and regular observations and targets. This will
give you an idea of how and what your child is learning, how they are
developing, what his/her interests and how we are going to expand and build
on that.
You will have the opportunity to read through your child’s ‘learning diary’ at
any time, or alternatively you can speak with your child’s key person at pick up
or collection time. Furthermore, we have planned ‘parents/ carers’
afternoon/evening meetings to discuss your child’s development and progress.
• What is a ‘key person?’
A key person is a person who acts as a point of contact for you.
A person who helps your child to become familiar with the setting and to
feel confident and safe.
Ready Steady Go
Guidance Pack

Although we’re not their parents,
We care for them each day.
We cuddle sing and read to them,
And watch them as they play.
We see each new accomplishment,
And help them grow and learn.
We understand their language,
And listen with concern.
They come to us for comfort,
And we kiss away their tears.
They proudly show their work to us,
We give the loudest cheers.
We are not their parents,
But our role is just as strong.
We nurture them and keep them safe,
Though maybe not for long.
We know someday the time may come
When we will have to part.
But we know each child we’ve cared for is forever in our hearts.
