Our purpose The Advising Center is full of

information for undergraduate students; such as postings for Research Assistants, information on graduate school and careers, and of course Psychology degree requirements. We recommend that you visit the Advising Center every semester to have us go over your degree audit and make sure you're up to date.

Peer Advisors

University of Central Florida

The Psychology Peer Advisors are advanced undergraduate psychology majors who assist other psychology major/minors in understanding and completing their psychology degree requirements. The Peer Advisors inform students of academic policies and procedures, assist in conducting orientations for freshman and transfer psychology student orientations, and provide advisement on other psychology-related matters such as procedures in applying for graduate school. Peer Advisors are trained by Karen Cox, the Director of Undergraduate Advising for the Psychology Department, and earn upper level psychology credit.

The Degree Audit is a computer-generated evaluation of a student's progress toward a specified degree program. It is NOT an official transcript. Use your Degree Audit to check which degree requirements you have met and which you have not met. Audits are online through the MyUCF portal, or the Advising Center.

Internships/Research

Participating in undergraduate research will expand your academic experience at UCF. Research is a process of careful inquiry leading to the discovery of new information. Although there are some differences in how research is conducted across disciplines, research is not restricted to certain disciplines and occurs in all programs at UCF. FAQ’s

Q: Why can’t I register for upper level classes?A1: You have not completed your prerequisites . A2: Possibly you have completed your prerequisites but you have not declared your major yet.

Q: Do I need to make an appointment with an advisor?A: When seeing a peer advisor we see students on walk-in basis. However, if you require to speak with the director of advising or the program assistant you may schedule an appointment.

What Prerequisite Courses Do Psychology Majors Need to Take?(A) One biology course: Psychology majors must take a basic biology course. BSC 1005 Biological Principles will fulfill this requirement if no additional biology courses are planned. BSC 2010C General Biology should be taken if additional biology courses are planned.(B) One introductory psychology course such as PSY 2012 General Psychology(C) DEP 2004 Developmental Psychology(D) One introductory course in statistics: STA 2023 Statistical Methods I or STA 2014C Principles of Statistics. STA 2023 has prerequisite of either College Algebra or Finite Math while STA 2014C has no prerequisites but you must register for a lab with this course. Choose the STA 2014C if you want a more basic statistics course. The STA 2023 will expose the student to the use of statistical methods to arrive at statistical conclusions. The material covered in these introductory courses in statistics serves as a foundation for both PSY3204 Statistical Methods in Psychology and PSY 3213C Research Methods in Psychology.
