ELAELA• Writing: We will be working on 4 different

long compositions, one for each quarter (narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive). We will also cover the standard English conventions and grammar.

• Spelling: We have weekly lessons. All workbook pages are due every Friday. Students should be practicing their spelling words nightly! Tests are Mondays.

ReadingReading• Reading Street Anthology: Our focus prior

to MCAS/PARCC exam. This book will be used on a daily basis and will go home for homework assignments occasionally.

• Novels: We will read at least 2 novels together as a class throughout the year. Students should also be reading on their own and keeping reading logs for possible end-of-the-year prizes!!

Social StudiesSocial Studies• United States History, Geography, Economics,

and Government: Early Exploration to Westward Movement– Starting off with basic mapping skills and US

Geography. Then we will begin History with the pre-Columbian civilizations to exploration, colonization, and settlement.

– We will end the year with a field trip to Old Sturbridge Village!! This is an opportunity to experience what colonial life in New England would have been like.

• Projects are quarterly and count as Test grades. It is very important to complete each project by the assigned due date.– Native American Tribe - Explorer– State - President

they will earn Gotcha Gael Tickets.• Items at the School Store may be

purchased with these tickets.• There will also be raffles that students can

enter with the tickets.• Participation in school-wide events will

cost tickets as well, so it is important to keep them safe!!
