“ In addition to the studies, life in Lancaster gave me plenty of other worthwhile experiences; a global network of people from Colombia to China, hikes in the magnificent Lake District… and plenty of other things… Looking back I cannot help but smile and know that I surely made the right choice.”Daniel | Shopping Development Manager | Beiersdorf AG

LUMS minimum English language proficiency requirements (if English is not your first language)

Studying at Master’s level demands a high level of fluency in written and spoken English, together with excellent comprehension. For this reason non-native speakers are normally asked to demonstrate their English language competency by taking an internationally recognised test.

• IELTS (academic) 7.0 (with at least 6.0 in each element), or

• ToEFL 100 (with at least 22 in each element), or

• Pearson Test of English (academic) 70 (with at least 55 in each element), or

• Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) grade C or above

Please note: IELTS, ToEFL and Pearson scores are valid for two years from the test date. Any variation in test score requirements are outlined in the specific programme entry.

Visa Requirements

If you are an overseas applicant you are likely to require a Tier 4 (General) Student Visa and will need to meet UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) minimum English language requirement (B2). Please note that the English language requirement for our programmes is higher than that of the UKBA B2 level.

Please check the UKVI website for visa information and

updates: www.gov.uk/tier-4-general-visa

Are your English language results marginally below our requirements?

If you are evidently a strong applicant, we may consider you for one of our pre-sessional English courses. In this case, the offer of a place could depend on successful completion of the course and an additional fee is charged. We have designed these courses to help you improve your English to the level you need for your academic programme. If you need to attend one of the courses, we will send you further information at the offer stage.

A place to call home

Naturally, you’ll benefit from the most up-to-date learning resources available. What you won’t get is the high living costs, noise, pollution, crime, traffic congestion and endless commuting that can make studying in a big city so frustrating. And when you need to take a break, there are plenty of opportunities for rest and relaxation on and off campus.

Get involvedThere’s more to the LUMS experience than exceptional study opportunities. We’d like to think our student societies – over 100 of them – cover all tastes from ballroom dancing to backpacking, but there’s always room for more if you spot a gap in the market.

Play hardYou’ll be hard-pressed to find a sport that’s not represented on campus and many of our sports societies make their base in the magnificent £20m sports centre which includes:

• a 25-metre, eight-lane swimming pool

• climbing wall and bouldering cave

• health and fitness suites, sauna, steam room

• sports hall with badminton and squash courts

• floodlit synthetic pitches plus rugby and football pitches

• tennis and netball courts and a bowling green

Our proximity to two National Parks puts world-class mountain climbing, kayaking, trekking and fell running on your doorstep, too.

Develop the skills and experiences that will take you to the next level. Start your journey at www.lancaster.ac.uk/lums

We think you’ll love living and learning at LUMS. Our campus occupies a stunning 360-acre parkland setting with enviable views and is a safe, enriching environment that’s an ideal base for studying and socialising.

“Lancaster is an inspirational place to work, live and learn. The campus itself is quietly situated three miles south of the city centre on a site of rare beauty, but access into town by bus, bike or car is easy.”

Graduate College is the only college at Lancaster University reserved exclusively for graduate students. We think you’ll appreciate this college’s uniquely international and multicultural mix which presents members with an ideal opportunity to broaden horizons, share experiences and celebrate diversity. The college organises regular trips and excursions plus international social events, as well as offering students the opportunity to take part in inter-college competitions and sports leagues, too.

Room with a viewGraduate College is more than the setting for great social community – it also hosts a good range of accommodation options for postgraduate students, including single rooms, self-contained studios and family flats. You can expect comfortably furnished accommodation with fully fitted kitchens and bathrooms. Depending on the type of accommodation you choose, you may also have access to study and social areas including a common room, games room, PC lab, bar and TV room.

Accommodation fees include heating, lighting, electricity, and a 24-hour security presence during term time, plus high-speed Internet. If you prefer to live off campus, though, we can help you find good quality accommodation in the surrounding area, just ask.

Lancaster is one of just a handful of UK universities to operate a collegiate system. This means that each college has its own distinctive character, and creates a small close-knit community in which students can happily live, work and socialise. Our colleges are proud to be friendly, safe and secure environments with a strong focus on social and sporting activities.

This challenging programme provides the theoretical framework and skills that accountants and financial managers need to cope with an increasingly complex global accounting environment. This programme is an ideal choice if you’re a professional accountant looking to take stock of your learning from practice. It also allows ambitious newer graduates to extend their academic training to the frontiers of knowledge within the discipline. If you’re contemplating a career in accounting, investment banking, financial analysis or other areas involving extensive use of accounting information, this MSc will give you the necessary skills.

Lancaster’s Department of Accounting and Finance is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field. It therefore attracts excellent students, many of whom are now in senior positions in the accounting profession and in industry. Others have joined the faculty of universities across the world.

There is flexibility within the programme, as some modules are shared with two other programmes – MSc Finance and MSc Financial Analysis. So if your interests change once you come to Lancaster, there is

an opportunity to switch to one of these programmes after the first term.

The programme offers ACCA exemptions, and for those interested in becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst, many of the modules contribute to CFA study sessions at levels I-III.

“My Masters has allowed me to gain a valuable insight into the type of duties that I’ll be performing as well as developing the accountancy skills that are vital to my day-to-day work. An important element of the course was teamworking skills; in my job I’m working in different teams on a weekly basis, showing how important these skills are.”Joe | Mazars UK

This Masters programme provides a unique combination of HR, management development and consulting. This broad coverage means that it opens up careers in many different areas.

Taking a critical perspective on management theory and practice, the programme encourages you to engage with many different ideas, concepts and ways of thinking about the nature of individual and organisational learning and the underlying processes and issues.

You’ll be challenged to look at those ideas from a theoretical perspective and reflect on how they translate into organisational practice, and will also gain insights from industry speakers from leading companies. You’ll also be exploring experiential and interactive learning technologies and what these can offer organisations of varying kinds.

There is a dual focus on theory and practice – and you’ll be applying your skills in a two-week consulting project, where you work in teams for a client organisation to develop recommendations on currentworkplace issues.

Whatever you studied for your first degree, this MA is ideal if you’re interested in careers in HR, management development, organisational development, education, and management consultancy – all areas in which our graduates now work.

Designed for graduates in economics and finance or related disciplines, this Masters programme equips you with the skills, knowledge and technical capabilities to enter careers in the financial sector as well as to undertake PhD studies.

Our graduates take up jobs as economists in central banks around the world, as traders in financial services companies, and as researchers and analysts in the banking sector. Others make their careers in consultancy or in higher education.

The programme provides comprehensive coverage of economic theory and advanced quantitative methods, together with analysis of financial markets, and also looks at the institutional framework of the money and banking sectors.

In addition to sound academic knowledge, you’ll also acquire skills in using statistical packages, and extend those skills with a challenging summer research project.

You’ll be taught by highly experienced faculty from Economics and Accounting and Finance, well-known within their fields, and also by industry professionals

– ensuring that the programme content constantly evolves to stay at the cutting edge of the disciplines involved.

Small class sizes mean you’ll get plenty of personal attention and a high level of support. Our teaching style is very interactive, involving a lot of groupwork and discussion.

“A key trait of how the MBF programme is taught is that professors encourage students to think about each problem and to come up with a solution, there are no easy answers! I have found this to be an invaluable tool when facing problems at work”David | FIRA

Designed specifically as a conversion programme, the MSc in Project Management provides a thorough and highly practical grounding in strategic thinking, project definition, planning and control, applied project management, behavioural aspects of project management and managing change.

One of the benefits of this Masters is that the key project management principles you learn – and the practical skills you acquire – are as applicable in a marketing or service-led organisation as they are in an engineering or manufacturing firm. That means that our graduates can and do take on professional project management roles in a wide range of organisations across the world.

Our students come from a very broad cross-section of academic and working backgrounds and many different cultures. Some have been trained in engineering disciplines, others come from business and management degrees. This diversity enables us to explore the theory and practice of project management in a generic and dynamic manner.

The programme includes an element of project work. A challenging consulting project at the end of your MSc gives you scope to apply your skills on behalf of a client company.

“The final project gave me the opportunity to work alongside a top development manager for Apple Inc. The knowledge I accumulated during this project would not have been possible had Lancaster not provided the platform from which to learn.”Adrian | SAJO Inc.

Exploiting the commercial potential of new internet technologies and social media requires people with a sound understanding not only of the technologies involved but also of business and management. The MSc EBIN programme, designed for recent graduates, provides a unique multidisciplinary opportunity to develop the expertise needed to shape innovation in e-business and e-commerce brought about by Internet, mobile, and multimedia technologies.

Theory and practice are tightly interwoven, via case studies and real-world projects and through our partnership with IBM and other leading companies. Industry professionals contribute to the delivery, together with faculty experts from the Management School and the School of Computing. In the second term you have the option of specialising in computing or management pathways.

The focus is on providing core theories and knowledge, as well as developing your transferable ICT, managerial and research skills. You put all these skills into effect in a ten-week consulting project where you help an organisation to solve a real-world business or technology problem.

Some of the companies students have worked with in the past include Deloitte, BT CISCO, BCS and IBM.

The flexibility within the programme gives you a wide choice of careers, enabling you to succeed as a business or ICT professional in a private or public-sector organisation, a manager in a new or emerging firm requiring entrepreneurial skills, or a project manager for an existing technology and service provider.

Good management requires not only efficiency and effectiveness – managers in today’s global organisations have to be adept at managing competing demands, such as delivering sustainability, fairness, order and peace.

Our MSc PPM is unique in Europe in bringing together these important areas, and its interdisciplinary approach allows you to examine pressing managerial and social issues from different angles.

You’ll develop a sophisticated understanding of social, political, organisational and managerial processes and the connections between them. Combine that with analytical, presentation and research skills, intercultural teamworking, and insights into managing people and organisational change, and this gives you a highly attractive skill-set to offer employers.

Open to ambitious graduates from the arts or social sciences (including business and management), this Masters is an ideal launch-pad if you’re looking to work in organisations that cross national boundaries – for example, global corporations, NGOs or transnational

organisations such as the United Nations or the EU. Research elements within the programme also make it highly suitable for those aiming to progress to PhD.

You’ll be taught by specialists from two of the University’s top-rated departments, giving you access to many areas of expertise, and four different pathways through this MSc enable you to tailor your study to your specific interests and career plans.
