Welcome to Home & Careers 8 (HCS 8 for short)! I am so excited to spend the next 10 weeks with you/your child. This program teaches life skills and offers a hands-on practical experience. SchoolTool- This is the grading system used by CCSD. Grades are put into the system soon after the project/assignment/homework is turned in. If you see an EX- your child is EXCUSED. If you see an OW- your child OWES the assignment. Please have them turn it in ASAP.

• High School Transition– Q&A with Mrs. Hayes about the HS– Courses offered in FACS at the HS level
• Class Participation & Effort- 45%– If a student is absent, they are excused from
certain class experiences that cannot be made up. This will appear in SchoolTool as Ex. For Excused.
• Tests/Projects 40%– Projects are due on time! – Students who turn in a project late may do so
with a 15 point deduction.– Late projects will only be accepted within one
week of original due date. • Cooking Labs 10%
– On average, there are four cooking labs a quarter.
– Students are assigned cooking groups and receive a group grade based upon their participation and demonstration of cooking skills.
– If a student is absent on a cooking lab day, they are excused (Ex. in SchoolTool) and do not need to do anything to make up the missed experience
Homework- 5% – Students will receive full credit (3/3) for turning in
homework the next class day.– Students will receive a 2 out of possible 3 points
for returning the assignment within 1 week of due date.
– Students will receive 1 point out of 3 for returning the assignment by course end.
– Students who owe work at the end of the course will have a detention with the Teacher to complete the assignment.
– Students are encouraged to use Lunch Bunch for help with assignment completion.
