Welcome to HLPC! Houston Lake Presbyterian Church is here for the glory of God to be a graciously redeemed worshiping body that proclaims and lives in the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ so that people, families, and communities in Houston County and beyond may know Christ in all His fullness. Please set all mobile phones to silent mode. Children of all ages are welcome in the worship service. Nursery is provided for children under 4 years of age. Parents are encouraged and welcome to utilize the crying room for infants and young children. Sound is also provided in the foyer.

The Lord’s Supper is being served this morning HLPC welcomes all Christians who are willing to forsake their sin and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, and who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims the gospel, to participate in the Lord’s Supper. Children who have been examined by the elders and admitted to the Lord’s Table are able to partake of this Sacrament. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this sacrament, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer.

(Note: The bread in the center cup is gluten-free.)

LORD’S DAY WORSHIP July 7, 2019

GATHERING Prelude We enter the sanctuary and gather as God’s people with the intent of worshiping the one, true and living God. Let the music being played remind us of our purpose here this morning. Welcome & Announcements Please fill out the connection card located in the seatbacks and drop it in the offering plate at the end of service. Silent Preparation for Worship †Call to Worship - The First Word We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with His Word, His invitation to us to gather in His name. Minister: Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the

living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice,

People: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive

power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”

Minister: And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth

and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,

People: “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be

blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” (Revelation 5:11-13)

†Prayer for God’s Presence †Hymn of Praise “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” (vv.1, 3, 5, 6) Hymn #296 †Corporate Confession of our Faith The Council of Nicaea, which met in 325 A.D., formulated this statement of Christian belief in order to affirm Biblical doctrine regarding the Trinity and the person of Christ. The Nicene Creed Trinity Hymnal p.846 REMEMBERING THE GOSPEL Call to Confess Our Sins Confession of sin is a way that we are refreshed in the gospel and are reminded that it is truly good news. Rather than wallowing in our sin we deal with sin and guilt by confessing it and claiming God’s promise of forgiveness in Christ. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (I John 1:8) Silent Prayers of Confession Hymn of Confession & Grace “By Thy Mercy”

1. Jesus, Lord of life and glory, Bend from heaven thy gracious ear; While our waiting souls adore thee, Friend of helpless sinners, hear:

Page 5: Welcome to HLPC! - Houston Lake Pres · 2019-07-07 · Chelsea Hayman 2’s & 3’s Bermudez Rosner Julie deLuna Lyn Micko GREETERS: Kenny and Katy Rahn Next Week: Mary Catherine

2. From the depth of nature's blindness, From the hardening power of sin, From all malice and unkindness, From the pride that lurks within, Refrain: By thy mercy, O deliver us, good Lord By thy mercy, O deliver us, good Lord, good Lord.

3. When temptation sorely presses, In the day of Satan's power, In our times of deep distresses, In each dark and trying hour.

4. When the world around is smiling, In the time of wealth and ease, Earthly joys our hearts beguiling, In the day of health and peace. Words of Grace Minister: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (I John 1:9) People: God’s faithfulness to honor the finished work of His Son means that justice has been satisfied and we are free from the guilt and penalty of sin. Praise be to God! †Grace Makes Us Gracious: Greeting One Another Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. (Romans 15:7)

†Hymn of Celebration “Thy Mercy, My God”

1. Thy mercy, my God, is the theme of my song, The joy of my heart. and the boast of my tongue; Thy free grace alone, from the first to the last, Hath won my affections, and bound my soul fast.

2. Without Thy sweet mercy I could not live here; Sin would reduce me to utter despair; But, through Thy free goodness, my spirits revive, And He that first made me still keeps me alive.

3. Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart, Which wonders to feel its own hardness depart; Dissolved by Thy goodness, I fall to the ground, And weep to the praise of the mercy I’ve found.

4. Great Father of mercies, Thy goodness I own, And the covenant love of Thy crucified Son; All praise to the Spirit, Whose whisper divine Seals mercy, and pardon, and righteousness mine. All praise to the Spirit, Whose whisper divine Seals mercy, and pardon, and righteousness mine. Prayers of the People Ruling Elder Kenny Rahn

(Concluded by the Lord’s Prayer) Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Minister: This is the Word of the Lord! People: Thanks be to God!

Message Rev. Dr. Paul L. Bankson The Hard Sayings of Jesus

Hate My Mom? Really?

Hymn of Preparation “Man of Sorrows! What a Name” (vv.1, 3, 5) Hymn #246 MEETING GOD AT HIS TABLE Words of Institution Sharing of the Bread and the Cup RESPONDING TO THE GOD OF GRACE Offering Our giving to God is a response to the gospel. We give as an act of worship and also as an expression of our trust in God to meet all our needs. In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)

DEPARTING †Benediction - The Last Word God always has the last word in our worship, and for those who are in Christ Jesus these are always words of blessing. These words come from God, and not from the Pastor. As an expression of receiving this blessing we open our hands. †Singing of the Doxology Hymn #731 All Scripture quotations are from the English Standard Version (ESV).
