3rd Primary School of ZografouMy school is the 3rd primary school in Zografou,
Athens, Greece.Our school was founded on February 22 1962. This building opened its doors in May 1970. In the same building there is also the 9th primary school of Zografou.
My school has fifteen teachers and 156 students. It is a big school with many classrooms, one gym, two playgrounds, one music classroom and one computer- science classroom. Our school has also a theatre hall where we hold our annual festivals.

The Acropolis was built in 424 B.C. under the rule of Pericles and it has 3 main buildings: the Parthenon, the Erechteio and the Temple of Athena Nike or Wingless. During the Turkish command the Parthenon became a mosque.Acropolis in Greek means "The Sacred Rock, the high city". All around the world the Acropolis of Athens is known as 'The Acropolis'. There are many Acropolis in Greece but the Acropolis of Athens is the best known one. The Acropolis is mainly dedicated to the Goddess Athena. But humans from the prehistoric era have populated the Acropolis and the caves around it. Situated in the middle of Athens, many myths, festivals and important events are connected to the sacred Acropolis.

Zografou, Athens
Zografos is a town of Attica and it is near Imittos Mountain.
After the departure of the Ottomans from the area in the
1830s, the area came into the ownership of the mayor of
Athens. Now, it has 150,000 residents. Ioannis Zografos
bought the forest area in 1902 and split it in small areas and
after the 1st World War he sold them. So in 1929 a small
village was created with 100 houses and later many people
came and in 1948 Zografos became officially a municipality.
In our municipality we have a cinema and theatre, many
schools, banks, shops, pharmacies, super markets,
playgrounds, gyms, football fields, and many other athletic
buildings.

THE CITY OF ATHENS
Athens is one of the most fascinating cities in the world
famous for its history, civilization and lifestyle. It is the capital
of Greece and the birthplace of democracy. A lot of
philosophers such as Aristotle, Socrates and Plato lived in
Athens. It also hosted the first modern- day Olympic games in
1896.There’ s plenty to see and do in this city. You can visit
ancient monuments like the Acropolis or the Parthenon and
there are also hundreds of restaurants where you can taste
traditional Greek dishes. Finally, there are lots of other
attractions and facilities which make Athens an interesting
place to visit and have fun.
A place, or better an archaeological site in the Argolis (an area in the Peloponnese) at about 90 km from Athens has been excavated first in 1841 by the Greek archeologist Pittakis who restored the lions gate and then in 1876 by the German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann who gave also the name to that period between the 16th and the 11th century B.C.: Mycenaean period.Today one can visit there beyond the Mycenaean palace and the lions gate the richest shaft graves inside the acropolis and some others less rich outside. Clytemnestra and the so called Treasury of Atreus as well, not far from the archeological site. You can see the Agamemnon mask, seals, swords, jewelry or models of the acropolis.

Modern Greeks
● have dinner late at night
● except for their personal portions they put common portions in the middle of the table (mezedakia) for all
the companion to pick
● enjoy their coffee for a long time, discussing with friends
● don’t eat only souvlaki and tzatziki or drink ouzo
● don’t philosophize all day long (however you will hear them talking about politics and economic policies and
measures all the time)
● don’t dance syrtaki wherever they are

Souvlaki (Greek: σουβλάκι, [suˈvlaki]) plural souvlakia is a popular Greek fast food consisting of small pieces of meat and sometimes vegetables grilled on a skewer. It may be served on the skewer for eating out of hand, in a pita sandwich with garnishes and sauces, or on a dinner plate, often with fried potatoes. The meat usually used in Greece and Cyprus is pork, although chicken and lamb may also be used. In other countries and for tourists, souvlaki may be made with meats such as lamb, beef, chicken and sometimes fish (especially swordfish).

Greek language
Greek (ellīniká) is a part of the Indo-European family of languages. It is the official language of Greece and Cyprus and one of the 23 official languages of EU. The language is spoken by at least 13 million people today in Greece, Cyprus, and in many parts of the world.
Greek roots are often used to coin new words for other languages, especially in the sciences and medicine; Greek and Latin are the predominant sources of the international scientific vocabulary. Over fifty thousand English words come from the Greek language.As we don’t want everything to sound like Greek to you why don’t you try to learn a few useful words and phrases like these?

NAFPLIO
Nafplio is a seaport town in the Peloponnese in Greece that has expanded up the hillsides near the north end of the Argolic Gulf. The town was the capital of the First Hellenic Republic, from the start of the Greek Revolution in 1821 until 1834. Nafplio is now the capital of the regional unit of Argolis.

Imittos Mountain
Imittos mountain is 1026 m high. It is just above our school. It has got the nickname Trelos (crazy) because the weather changes very often on the top. The National Technical University and the University of Athens are built on its foot.

The University of Athens
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens was founded on May 3, 1837 . It was the first University not only in Greece but in all the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean in general. It is named after Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of free Greece.
