Welcome to Grad Commencement
• When do I arrive and what do I do when I get there?• What happens next after I arrive?• When do we enter the stage?• What happens during the commencement ceremony?• What happens at the end?• Other details?
• Parking• Robes• Awards/Diplomas/Photographs
Arrival• You need to be there by 6:15pm DO NOT BE LATE!!!!!!
• Enter via the STAGE ENTRANCE off of Seymour
• Immediately proceed up the stairs to the Green Room
• Marshals will be there to organize you by alpha/colour; do this quickly!!!
• Relax, chat quietly, get ready.

So what happens next?• Once you have been organized in the green room you will
have a few minutes to relax• Marshalls will eventually ask you to start walking down to
the stage via the exit door (opposite side of room from where you entered)
• BE SURE TO MAINTAIN YOUR ORDER!!!!!• Keep chatter to a minimum as you voices will carry out to
the audience• Once you have reached the wings of the stage, follow
directions but again, STAY IN ORDER
Processional to your seats• At 7:00, Pomp and Circumstance will play and you will
enter the stage in order.• Walk across the stage following the red carpet; do not
rush!• Remember to smile and look to the audience occasionally• At the end of the red carpet, do a u-turn by the Lecturn
and follow the person in front of you to your appropriate row and seat

What happens next?• Now we get into the body of the ceremony• Once every grad has arrived at their seat and is seated,
you will be directed to stand for the singing of “O’Canada”• Mr. Crowley will MC the proceedings and welcome our
guests, parents and of course the Graduation Class of 2013

• The first row of grads will get up and move to the stage right wing to be organized for presentation• Stay in order, single file• Relax and breathe!!!!
• As you enter the stage, ‘readers’ will acknowledge your name before reading out your grad message
• As the message is being read, walk along the Red Carpet where you will shake hands with a number of guests
• Students who received Honours Standing for Term 2 will be awarded with their Gold Cord
• At the end of the carpet you will be presented with any awards, book prizes, certifcates etc you may have received and your graduation diploma• Wait on the ‘X’ for presenters; DO NOT LEAVE! Shake their hand and turn to the camera;
SMILE!• Wait on the “X for Ms. Laursoo; shake her hand, take the diploma and hold in front of you,
turn to the camera and once again SMILE• Once the photographer gives you the thumbs up, proceed past Ms. Gilbert and back to
your seat.

What happens next?• Once every grad has been presented, you will all want to
clap (but this isn’t the end so don’t get too excited)• Musical Interlude then…• Valedictory Address: Ian Winkler• Musical performance by the Commencement Ensemble• On the last note of the song, I will give a cue; You will all
stand and you will all throw your mortar boards into the air then take a bow while the audience congratulates you
What happens next?
• We will hold there for a few moments; drink in the moment, look around; this won’t ever happen again!
• When Pomp and Circumstance begins to play, follow either Mr. Sandor or Mrs. Laursoo and exit the theatre via both stairs on the corners of the stage and then up the middle aisle to the Lobby
• You will exit in the foyer to your right and up some stairs where you will hand in your robe and stole; keep your cap!
• Return to the main foyer to meet your parents, guardians, friends, siblings etc.
• TIME TO CELEBRATE! YOU DID IT!

• lots of parking directly across from the Orpheum at the corner of Smythe and Seymour
Robes• When you exit to the lobby, turn in your robe to
teachers waiting to receive them; do not leave with your robe!!!!!!!
Photographs• Photographs from the event will be available for
pickup in the office later in June
Summary• 6:15pm Arrive at Orpheum, Seymour Side Entrance; go up 5 floors to waiting
room• 6:30pm Check in and make sure you have your order correct!• 6:45pm Start heading down stairs to start Processional• 7:00pm “Pomp & Circumstance” begins; Grads proceed to seats; sit quickly
waiting for everyone to arrive• Performers of O’Canada proceed to front of stage; all stand and sing the
national anthem• Mr. Crowley welcomes everyone; introduces Ms. Laursoo for Principal’s
Address• Presentation of Grads! This is your time• Musical Interlude • Valedictory Address• Musical performance from graduates• Throw your hats, try and catch one, Recessional out to foyer• Hand in your robes
