OUR MISSION STATEMENT Good Shepherd is a Christian, caring community, nourished by a joyful spirit-filled liturgy that inspires our daily lives. We strive

to welcome, accept and love all people as they are, and through our ministries reach out with active concern to those in need.

Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time —September 27, 2009

Welcome To

GOOD SHEPHERD Catholic Church

Menomonee Falls, WI

Jesus replied, “Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a

mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For

whoever is not against us is for us.” - Mk 9:39-40

Just to refresh your memory---As you know a nice percentage of the

funds that are raised through the Faith in Our Future Archdiocesan

capital campaign are returned to the parish (in which they were

raised) for use by that parish. Through town hall meetings and our

Pastoral Council‘s deliberations it was determined that the funds re-

turned to Good Shepherd would be used in three areas of parish life--

1) to further and enrich our liturgical life, 2) to further and enrich our

lifelong Christian Formation programs especially Generations of Faith,

3) to supplement our outreach programs to those in need with spe-

cial attention to our sister parish in Ellacuria. So far the Prayer and

Worship Commission has brought to the Pastoral Council that some of

those funds be used to have Fr. Jose as a weekend Liturgy presider.

It seems that the next request that is on the horizon is going to be

coming from the Christian Formation Commission. They are looking

into and consulting with others who use Daniels Hall, for programs

that there be some upgrade of the audiovisual equipment in the hall

that is used for Generations of Faith and all other programs that take

place in the hall.

So far some specifications have been drawn together in consultation

with the various users and these have been put out to three compa-

nies for bid. When these bids are reviewed the Christian Formation

Commission will come before the pastoral council for the council‘s

confirmation that this is appropriate use of Faith in our Future funds.

Hopefully, this effort will assist us all—parents, parishioners and pre-

senters in the task of passing on the faith to our children and to one

another in this multi-media age.

Collection of Medical Supplies for Our Sister Parish in Ellacuria We will be collecting medical and first aid supplies for our sister parish in Ella-

curia, which our parish delegates will be taking to them when they visit in

October.

Please pick up a paper bag THIS weekend, Sept. 26 and 27, from the tables

in the narthex and the south entrance. The bags will have labels with the

needed items listed on them. Bring back the bags with the listed items the

following weekend Oct. 3 and 4. This is a wonderful way to connect with our

brothers and sisters in Ellacuria, even if we cannot personally visit them.

When you bring back your bags next weekend, you will also have an opportu-

nity to sign a banner and write your greetings to the people in Ellacuria. They

are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their return to their village. We are

Experience of God Mini-Course on Islam with Janan Najeeb

Session One:

An Overview of Muslim Beliefs and Practices

Thursday, October 1 – 7-8:30 pm in Daniels Hall

Islam is a faith of 1.5 billion people on earth, an Abrahamic faith with close ties to

Christianity and Judaism, yet seriously maligned and misunderstood. Who are the Muslims

and what do they really believe?

Session Two:

Women in Islam and Contemporary Issues

Tuesday, October 13 – 7-8:30 pm [new date] also in Daniels Hall

The position of women in Islam and Islam on the world stage have dominated the media and fueled dis-

course at all levels in our Country. Let us differentiate fact from fiction and become better informed citizens.

Janan Najeeb is a founding member and current director of the Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition. She has

been a spokeswoman for Milwaukee’s Muslim community to a wide range of community groups. A microbiologist

by profession, Ms. Najeeb left her career to work on bridging the gap between the erroneous perception of Islam

and Muslims in society and the actual beliefs and practices of the vast majority of the world’s Muslims.

Time for a Bonfire!! Experience Of God closing celebra-

tion and campfire will be

Saturday, October 17, beginning

with mass at 4:30 PM followed by

food, fun, fire, songs, & s‘mores.

God’s call because they feel they

are not worthy to do God’s work.

And they’re not; nobody is. But

still, God calls. There is enough

ministry for many more.

people from the gathered assembly

are needed for special roles to

celebrate our faith. Our baptism

calls us to discipleship and service

to one another. This is an open

invitation to participation in any of

the liturgical ministries. The wor-

shipping community needs help

especially in the following minis-

tries: acolytes, communion minis-

ters (11:00 in particular), singers/

instrumentalists and ushers. Call

S. Joann at the parish office (262-

255-2035 ext. 36) for more infor-

mation or e-mail:

Rosary Devotions Contrary to some people‘s opinion,

devotions were not thrown out with

the liturgical renewal bathwater.

There is a place for both in our

spirituality. October is recognized

as the month of the Rosary. Al-

though the rosary is considered a

private devotion, we will have a

communal recitation of the rosary

on the four Wednesday‘s of Octo-

ber – Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28 - beginning

at 6:00, in church. Join us for

prayer and then pray the rosary at

home with the family. A pamphlet

explaining how to pray the rosary

will be available at the west

entrance.

Personal Prayer Partners We are looking for

dedicated people of

prayer to help with one

-on-one prayer after all

Masses in the prayer

corner. We especially

need help at the

4:30pm Mass. If you

are interested please call Cheryl

Matusiak at 262-305-4117. I will

be available to you to help in train-

ing and direction. We have several

very dedicated people who are a

part of this ministry. Please an-

swer the call and join us.
