Our school Vision, Values and Aims
Our Vision:• Through a caring environment, we
strive to create high quality educational experiences to allow pupils to reach their full potential.
Our values:• Honesty• Respect• Responsibility• Cooperation• Pride
Our Aims:• Allow children’s confidence to grow by
celebrating their successes, achievements and efforts in and out of school.
• Ensure equality and inclusion are firmly embedded in the positive ethos of our school.
• Work in partnerships with parents and carers ad the wider community.
• Ensure there is continuous improvement through teaching approaches which enhance and develop children’s learning and understanding
• Promote the physical, social and mental and emotional health and well-being of all pupils, staff, parents and the wider school community.
Positive Behaviour Policy
At Ferryhill all our pupils follow our positive behaviour policy using the the ‘Golden Rules’.
They work hard to follow the rules in the classroom, in the playground and in and around the school.
Merit Awards
At Ferryhill all our pupils work towards earning merits. Pupils are awarded merits over a period of time and try to achieve their bronze, silver or gold. It is very popular with all our pupils and families.
Merits are awarded by staff for:• Following the Golden Rules• Good behaviour and manners• Being kind and helpful• Achieving targets• Exceptional work • Effort in homework that goes beyond what is expected• Respectful attitude towards staff and peers• Team work• School duties – JRSO, Litter Patrol, Pupils council
When a child achieves 25 merits parents and carers are invited to a special award ceremony where the head teacher will present the pupil with their bronze certificate.
When a child achieves 50 meritstheir parents/carers will receive a special invitation in the post to attend our award ceremony, where the head teacher will present them with their certificates and afterwards the children will join the head teacher for a celebratory tea party.
When a child achieves 100 merits they reach their gold. This high standard is recognised at our P7 Valedictory service when gold medals are presented. The first child to receive gold that year have their name engraved on the award to mark the occasion
Wider Achievements
Celebrating wider achievements and skillWe encourage children to share their achievements from outside school with their
teachers and peers and love to hear about competitions they have taken part in and awards and trophies they have earned. We have a special ‘Wider achievements wall’
in the dining hall where we post a photo and a short description of each their achievement to celebrate and share with the wider school community.
Sharing learning with parentsPupil progress will be shared in several ways.
• Parent consultations take place twice a year
• Every term, your child will bring home their progress jotter. In their jotter you will see examples of their best work and targets set by pupil and teachers to inform next steps. There’s also a comment box where you are invited to write your thoughts and comments on your child’s work and progress.
• Throughout the year you will be invited to class assemblies, open mornings or afternoons where you will be invited into the classroom where your child can proudly share with you what they have been learning.

A lot of time outdoors.
P1 Playground
We have a climbing frame, a bridge to cross,a slide to whizz down and lots of toys
to play with in our playground.
Main playground Trim trailWillow tunnel
Our pupils enjoy playing games in the playground, hiding in the
willow tunnel and making their way across the
trim trail.
Rainbow Garden
The Rainbow Garden is a small supported play area for some
children who find the big playground too busy and noisy. It’s
a safe, quiet space to play with your friends and your favourite
toys.
