Impacted Major: AccountancyBefore declaring Accountancy, students must first meet the Special Enrollment Requirements for ACCT 350:

In order to enter one of the competitive Accountancy program options, students are first admitted to the University as Pre-Accountancy majors, or if the student already attends CSUN, they must first file for a change of major to Pre-Accountancy. A pre-determined number of students are approved each semester to enroll in ACCT 350 through a competitive application process. The application and instructions are available on the Department of Accounting and Information Systems website. To obtain approval from the admissions committee to enroll in ACCT 350, students must meet the following requirements:

1. Completion of ENGL 205 and ACCT 220 with a grade of “B” or higher.

2. Completion of ACCT 230, BLAW 280, COMP 100, ECON 160, ECON 161, SOM 120 orMATH 140, and MATH 103 with a grade of “C” or higher.

3. A total GPA and CSUN GPA of 3.0 or higher (first semester transfer students will not have a CSUN GPA).

4. Completion of a minimum of 60 units of college work (junior class standing). For transfer students, the units must be CSU transferable.

Admission to the Accountancy Major

Upon successful completion of ACCT 350, students may apply for admission to the Accountancy major. At the time of application, students must have successfully completed the Pre-Accountancy portion of the major with a grade of “C” or higher in each class and maintained both a total and CSUN GPA of 3.0 or higher. The program application and instructions are available on the Department of Accounting and Information Systems website.

Impacted Major: Finance

Special Admission Requirements:

In order to enter one of the competitive Finance program options, students are first admitted to the University as Pre-Finance majors, or if the student already attends CSUN, they must first file for a change of major to Pre-Finance. After certain requirements are met, the student may then select a Finance option in Financial Analysis, Financial Planning, or Insurance. The requirements are as follows:

• 2.6 Cumulative GPA

• 2.0 CSUN GPA

• Completion of 60 units

• Must declare Finance with the desired option by 90 units

Nazarian College Grade Requirements

Students in the Nazarian College must earn a "C" or higher grade in MATH 103.

In addition, students in the following majors must meet the minimum grade requirements as listed below:

Accountancy • Must earn a "B" or higher in ACCT 220 and ENGL 205• Must earn a "C" or higher in all other major requirements

Economics • Must earn a "C" or higher in ECON 310

Finance (Financial Analysis, Financial Planning, Insurance)

• Must earn a "C" or higher in FIN 303

Information Systems • Must earn a "C" or higher in all I.S. courses

Management • Must earn a "C" or higher in MGT 360

Marketing • Must earn a "C" or higher in MKT 304

Real Estate • Must earn a "C" or higher in FIN 303

Upper Division Writing Proficiency Exam (UDWPE)

Attempt the Upper Division Writing Exam (UDWPE) once you complete 56 units but before you earn 75 units.

Passage of UDWPE (score of 8 or higher) is required for 400-level major courses.

GPA and Grade Requirements

If you are trying to change your major into the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics:

• You must be in good standing (2.0 CSUN and overall GPA)

• Impacted majors will require higher GPAs.

If you are trying to declare an additional major in the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics:

• You must have a 3.0 overall GPA

• 30 units earned

Repeat Policy

• A grade of "C-" or lower in a course may be repeated for grade forgiveness.

• Grade forgiveness means that the higher grade will replace the lower grade in the GPA.

• Students may repeat up to 16 units for grade forgiveness.

• This policy ONLY applies to courses taken and repeated at CSUN.

• Must pass major courses within two enrollment attempts.

What is the Degree Progress Report/Planner (DPR/Planner)?

• The Degree Progress Report/Planner (DPR/Planner) provides a full picture of your progress toward completion of bachelor’s degree requirements. The DPR/Planner:

• Lists coursework completed at CSUN and at other schools from which you submitted official transcripts

• Places your coursework into degree requirement sections

• Identifies CSUN requirements you still need to satisfy in order to graduate

• Changes to reflect your progress toward degree and major objectives

• Helps you prepare for meetings with your academic advisor

Note: Always use a DPR/Planner in consultation with your advisor before finalizing any decisions related to your academic plan (major).

DPR/Planner outlines the courses that you must complete to earn your degree. It is divided into three main sections:

How Does Double Counting Work?

• With careful planning, some major courses may be double counted with GE. This means you will be able to use one course to meet two different requirements.

• Double counting could potentially save you time toward graduation.

• You can review double counting opportunities with your advisor.

Requirements for Graduation

To earn a degree, all graduation requirements must be completed as outlined on your Degree Progress Report/Planner. They include:

• Lower division Business/Economics major requirements

• General education requirements

• Upper division General Education requirements

• Upper Division Writing Proficiency Exam

• Upper division major requirements

• Minimum unit requirement (120 units)

• Upper Division unit requirement

• CSUN Residency requirement

• GPA requirements

Note: You may apply for graduation once you have completed 90 units (including work-in-progress) or approximately one year prior to your planned graduation date.
