SLAVE HISTORY MUSEUMThe museum is located on the site of a 15th-century slave-trading warehouse in marina resort. Exhibits in the museum include local slave markets, equipment of the trade including shackles and chains, and the variety of currencies used to buy people, such as copper bars, brass bells and flutes.

MARY SLESSOR HOUSEThe house served as the residence of Mary Mitchell Slessor, a Scottish Christian missionary who came to Calabar in 1876. She is most famous for having stopped the common practice of killing infant twin babies among the Efik people.

In 1889, a missionary carpenter, Mr. Owens was commissioned to set up the structure for her. The walls were made of iron sheets while the door and windows were made of wood. It is located in Okoyong, about 30 mins drive from Calabar.

THE DRILL REHABILITATION CENTRE The Drill Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre is Nigeria’s first primate rehabilitation project. Here the animals are rehabilitated into family groups living in natural rainforest enclosures secured by electric fences. The captive animals serve as a flagship for the regional wildlife conservation as well as stimulate ecotourism and research.

KWA FALLSThe Great Kwa falls is located approximately 1 hour from Calabar, in a narrow, steep gorge on the headwaters of the Kwa River. Surrounded by a tropical mangrove forest, made up of mahogany, ebony and spruce trees adding to the undulating landscape that surrounds the fall.Kwa Falls is characterized by its well arranged staircase of 234 steps from the plane down to the rest place of the cloudy waters.

MILLENNIUM PARK AND CENOTAPHAn imposing feature of the park is the 14 / 20 metres Nigerian flag (the largest Nigerian flag ever) standing one hundred metres high and around its base are plaques with historical inscriptions, indicating time-line of most ethnic groups across the state…the park also serves as out-door venue for the annual CALABAR FESTIVAL (Dec. 1st – Jan. 1st).

OLD RESIDENCYNATIONAL MUSEUM Built in 1884, the building is a prefabricated structure of Scandinavian red-pine wood shipped in parts from Britain to Old Calabar. This building was the seat of the British colonial administration for the Southern Protectorate of Nigeria. It was initially known as “The Government House”. This imposing two-storey structure remains one of the best examples of the early colonial architecture of that time. The building was declared a National Museum in August 1959 and was converted into a museum of Old Calabar history in August 1986.

CALABAR MARINARESORT The marina resort is a preserved historical site and recreation center close to the Calabar river. It stands near the old slave trade site, which served as the embarkation point for a significant percentage of the slaves who left African shores during the transatlantic slave trade era.
