Planners:Purpose and Expectations
Help student plan and organize their work. Identify homework assignments. Communicate with parents regarding
homework and behavior. Sign over the weekend and return on Monday. “HW” assignments are homework.
Notebooks:Purpose and Expectations
Organized system for filing all papers. File graded papers until midterm. Provide reference for parents.

Grading Policy – Late Work
Work accepted up to 3 days after due date.
Work that is later than 3 days is recorded as 0% in the grade book.
Best possible score on late work is 80%. Late work cannot be corrected for an
improved score.
Grading Policy – Corrected Work
Scores of 79% and less are expected to be corrected.
Highest score possible is an 80%. Original scores of greater than 80% can be
corrected, but the grade will not be raised. Achievement of 80% or better demonstrates
mastery of subject matter. Skyward Family Access system is the best way
to regularly monitor your child’s progress.
Grading Policy – Absences(excluding extended family vacations)
If your child is absent for several days due to illness, please contact the teacher(s) as soon as possible.
At this point some work will be assigned and some work will be completed upon return.
Student has the number of days they were absent plus one day to turn in work. Please remind your child that it is his/her responsibility to get his/her missed work from the teacher.
Example: If student is absent on Tuesday and returns to class on Wednesday, their assignment is due on Friday.

Reading Flexible groupings based on MSP scores,
Baseline Group Test, fluency, STAR test, and teacher assessment.
Curriculum is a combination of Reading Street, Accelerated Reader, and novel study.
Accelerated Reading
Students pick books at individual reading level based on STAR Test.
Progressive individual goals for students. Students and parents can review TOPS reports
to check progress towards goal (red folder). 20% of Reading grade. Students are expected to read 30 minutes daily
at home in order to meet their Accelerated Reading goals. These minutes may also be counted on their RAH calendars.
Math Flexible groupings based on MSP
scores, Diagnostic and Placement test, math fact fluency, and teacher assessment.
Groups are arranged to
focus on common skill
needs of students. Communicate with math
teachers for concerns.
Math FactsFifth Grade Benchmarks Addition Facts to 20 Subtraction Facts to 20 Multiplication Facts through 12’s Division Facts through 12’s Each student’s math fact fluency will be included in
his/her final math grade. The benchmark for fifth grade is 25 consecutive
correct problems in one minute. Math Fact Fluency is assessed and recorded as a
math grade three times a year.

Ways Parents Can Help Check student planner daily
for homework and teacher notes to recognize a great job done to manage project due dates for missing or late work
Sign planner weekly (over weekend). Help your child select:
a regular time for homework and A/R reading a quiet place away from distractions Have supplies available like pencils, paper
