2019 Mass Intention Register
Our 2019 Mass Intention register still has a few available dates. Stop by the parish office during the week, if you would like to schedule a Mass Intention for 2019.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Christian liturgy has always con-tained an opportunity to make a choice for sharing. From the be-ginning, Christians pooled their resources, especially for the care of widows and orphans, at the weekly Eucharist. Over the years, the collection became detached from the liturgy and baskets or plates would be passed through the community while the Mass was going on at the altar, or con-tributions would be collected at the doors. In Milan’s Ambrosian Rite, these gifts have always been brought to the altar by lay people in procession. In German coun-tries, the ancient custom was for the entire assembly to process with their gifts—first the men, then the women, then the priests and deacons—to offer their gifts at the altar. The old ceremony of canonization included a curious vestige of this procession: people would present the pope with two loaves of bread, two barrels of wine and water, five candles, and three cages containing pigeons or turtledoves!

Why be registered in the parish?
All Catholics regularly participating in the liturgy are en-couraged to register with their parish community. Simply attending Mass each week does not make one a registered member of Holy Spirit parish. It is important that you officially register (complete a parish registration form) so that when you require documented information you are more easily identifiable through our parish records. Regis-tration is necessary for all Christian formation programs, marriage preparation and for registering at Catholic schools in the diocese. Serving in ministry is a wonderful way to become acquainted with your parish family and we encourage members to become involved in ministry.
New members may register at any time. You may down-load (www.holyspirit-tempe-az.org) and complete the parish registration form and mail, or return it via the col-lection basket on your next visit. If you are unable to print the form you may request one by e-mailing to [email protected] or calling the parish office (480) 838-7474. You will also find parish registration forms (with a return envelope) in the brochure holders above the water fountains in the Narthex (main entrance of the church). There is also an online parish registration form on the parish website (holyspirit-tempe-az.org) Help us keep our records current by calling the parish office (480) 838-7474 or e-mailing [email protected] with any updated infor-mation. Thank you for your assistance in keeping an accu-rate membership data base.
