2 ECOWEST FESTIVAL PROGRAMME 2019

Welcome toEcoMatters warmly welcomes you to EcoWest Festival 2019Tēnā koutou katoa,

EcoWest Festival is now in its eighth year, and it’s grown deep roots in this part of Tāmaki-Makaurau. It marks a season when thousands come together to celebrate and care for the places we love most in this corner of Aotearoa, and it never fails to be a highlight for us.

Each year, the festival programme evolves to respond to the issues of our time, and this edition is no different. In particular we’re excited to dive into a new event category that promises to challenge complacency and stoke the embers of conversation.

The ‘Arts on Climate Change’ series invites us to view our greatest environmental threat through the eyes of artists, filmmakers, performance artists and other creatives. At a time when climate issues are often framed through the dispassionate lens of the newsreader, we welcome new voices and perspectives that aim to provoke, confront and inspire action.

We’re extremely grateful to everyone who contributes to making EcoWest Festival what it is. Thank you firstly to our event hosts who are so graciously sharing their expertise. Many of you have worked tirelessly for the environment over many years, and it’s a privilege to have this opportunity to shine a light on your dedication and mahi. We’re also appreciative of our generous festival funders and supporters - especially the Waitākere Ranges, Henderson-Massey and Whau Local Boards and Panuku Development Auckland.

And to each of you who comes along - thank you for being a part of it, for responding to the call to care for Papatūānuku (Mother Earth). The need has never been greater, and we’re glad to stand here with you.
