NOTES ABOUT 5TH GRADE

• Helping your child prepare for the next step- MIDDLE SCHOOL by implementing NEW Common Core Standards

• They are the example for the younger grades (no one to blame wrong-doings on)

• However, your child is still 10 or 11 years old and will still need prompting to complete homework, study for exams, and complete larger projects. They may also require realistic consequences.

• Students will be tested on both 4th and 5th grade standards in May!

• 50 States and Capitals- Focusing more on WHERE the states are located, with an understanding to describe characteristics of the states

*Homework = responsibilities

*Homework should not mean stress

*Homework is graded as check plus, check, or minus

Standard homework assignments:•Reading DAILY •Writing about their reading •Math-DAILY

•Science and Social Studies- usually given when class work is not completed during class

*Finishing class work or correcting any other work

• Record Homework in planner daily

• Gather needed materials from school

• Math book, math journal, reading journal

• Complete homework-neatly

• Call a Homework Buddy as needed

• Return homework and textbooks daily

FROM THE OFFICE

Safety First Morning arrival time - no earlier than 8:10 Wear a visitor's pass when you come on campus.

Pick up after school:  do not get out of your car in white zones or parking in red zones.  Remember to drive slowly through our parking lot.
