Our Condolences… to Mrs. Martha Barnes on the loss of her
beloved husband, Robert Barnes
Who passed from this life on July 4, 2015. Let us keep Mrs. Barnes and all her family in
our prayers.
My dear Parishioners, During this year of 2015, the Archdiocese has honored nine
priest Jubilarians, among them, Father Alberto Cabrera, our
Parochial Vicar, who celebrates his Golden Jubilee of Ordi-
nation this coming Friday, July 17th. The celebration will
take place with a special evening Mass at 7:30 followed by
a reception in the school hall. All are welcome to join in this festive celebration. Fr. Alberto is the first Passionist priest assigned to St. Paul
of the Cross to minister specifically to our growing Hispanic
community. A native Argentinian, Fr. Alberto spent many
years ministering primarily as an itinerant preacher in his
native land as well as in Paraguay and Spain, before coming
to the United States in 1998. Prior to his arrival in Atlanta
in March 2012, he was stationed in Bedford, Pennsylvania,
and later in Jamaica, New York, where he served the His-
panic community of the Brooklyn Diocese. While here in
Atlanta, he became a citizen of the United States. Father Alberto is an intensely energetic individual. In the
short time he has been at St. Paul of the Cross, drawing on
his earlier experiences as pastor and religious superior, he
has organized our Hispanic ministry and trained everyone
from acolytes to evangelists. Additionally, he has invested a great deal of time and energy in the Archdiocesan Cursillo
Movement and has encouraged a number of our parishioners
to become Cursillistas. Since April of 2012, Fr. Alberto has
instructed and married 23 couples, and celebrated 148 bap-
tisms. On weekends, he usually celebrates three Masses in
Spanish; two on Sunday and one on Saturday evening in a
nearby trailer court for those who have to work on Sundays. Father Alberto’s sister, Maria Cristina Cabrera, will come
here from Argentina to join in his Jubilee celebration and
then she and he will return to Argentina for a hometown
celebration. After a well earned vacation, Fr. Alberto will
return to Atlanta in late August. I am personally grateful to Fr. Alberto for his priestly minis-
try among our Hispanic parishioners, and invite all of you to
join me in congratulating him on his Golden Jubilee of
Priesthood. Ad Multos Annos! —— Fr. Jerome, C.P.

P. Alberto, C.P.
