Turning on the deviceTo turn on the device
Make sure that the battery is charged for atleast 30 minutes before you turn on thedevice for the first time.
1 Press and hold down the power key until thedevice vibrates.
2 Wait for the device to start.

Set up your device
What is Android™?
Android is your device's operating system. SinceAndroid is developed by Google™, your device ispreloaded with several Google™ services, such asGoogle Maps™ and Google™ web search. To usesome of the services provided by Google™, youneed a Google account.Android provides backup options through Gmail™account sync to restore contacts, Wi-Fi settings, andapp data to/from Android devices.
What is different about Android?Android™ is an open system, which means thatyou're not limited to using applications and servicesfrom only one provider.
Basic settingsThe first time you start your device, a setup guideexplains basic device functions and helps you enteressential settings. You can also access the setupguide later.
To access the setup guide manually1 From the Home screen, tap .2 Tap Settings > Setup guide.
Google™ accountWith a Google™ account, you can use Gmail™ tosend emails, Google Talk™ to chat with friends, andGoogle Play™ to download applications and games,music, movies and books.When setting up your device, log in to your Google™account to sync Gmail™, Contacts, Google calendar,Picasa™ photo albums and restore downloadedapplications from the Play Store™. You can also useGoogle Maps™, download applications from PlayStore™, back up your settings to Google servers,and take advantage of other Google services on yourdevice.
To set up a Google™ account on yourdevice1 From your Home screen, tap .2 Find and tap Settings > Add account > Google.3 Follow the registration wizard to create a Google™
account, or sign in if you already have an account.You can also sign in to or create a Google™account from the setup guide the first time youstart your device. Or you can go online andcreate an account at www.google.com/accounts.
Finding your wayHome screenThe Home screen of your device is the equivalent ofthe desktop on a computer. You can customize yourHome screen with widgets, shortcuts, folders,themes, wallpaper, and other items.The Home screen extends beyond the regularscreen display width, so you need to flick left or rightto view content in one of the screen's fourextensions.
The items in the bar at the bottom of the screen arealways available for quick access.
To go to the Home screen• Press .

To change your Home screen wallpaper1 Tap an empty area on your Home screen.2 Tap Wallpaper and select an option.
WidgetsWidgets are small applications that you can usedirectly on your Home screen. For example, theMusic player widget allows you to start playing musicdirectly.Some widgets are resizable, so you can expand themto view more content or shrink them to save spaceon your Home screen.
Transferring contactsTransferring contacts to your new device cansometimes be complicated, but help is available.With a Google™ account, you can transfercontacts from several device brands, includingiPhone, Samsung, HTC and Nokia.After signing in to your Google™ account, yourdevice will sync with your Google services, suchas Gmail™, Contacts, Google Calendar andPicasa™ photo albums.
The Application screen extends beyond theregular screen width, so you need to flick left andright to view all content.To open the Application screen

ApplicationsAn application is a program on your device thathelps you perform a task. For example, there areapplications to make calls, take photos anddownload more applications.
Status and notificationsThe status bar at the top of your screen showswhat's going on in your device. For example, newmessage and calendar notifications appear here.
Checking notifications andongoing activitiesYou can drag down the status bar to open theNotification panel and get more information. Forexample, you can use the panel to open a newmessage or view a calendar event. You can alsoopen some applications that run in thebackground, such as the music player.
Application screenThe Application screen, which you open from yourHome screen, contains the applications that comepre-installed on your device, as well as theapplications you download.

Your device has IP (Ingress Protection) ratings ofIP5X, IPX5, and IPX7. This means that your device isdust-protected and protected against the effects ofimmersion in water at depths of between 0 to 100cm for up to 30 minutes, and is also protectedagainst the effects of a low-pressure water stream.The covers for the micro USB port, the microSDcard, the micro SIM card, and the headset connectormust be firmly closed in order for the device to meetthe stated IP rating.More information about IP codes and importantdetails about your device’s resistance to water canbe found in the User guide for your device and on theSony Mobile support website.www.sonymobile.com/support

Wi-Fi CallingTo use Wi-Fi Calling you should use the SIMcard shipped with your device. A different SIMcard may not work with the Wi-Fi Calling feature.Also, you must have a 911 emergency addressregistered with your account. Log into youraccount at www.t-mobile.com. Go to yourprofile and click Customer Info to register youraddress.
About Wi-Fi CallingWi-Fi Calling can improve your coverage and allowsyou to make phone calls and send messages over aWi-Fi network (when a Wi-Fi network is available).Unless your rate plan provides otherwise, Wi-FiCalling minutes count the same as T-Mobile cellularcalling minutes on your phone bill.

Troubleshooting
My device is notrespondingIf your device freezes, or if you cannot restart itnormally, you can perform a hard restart.
To perform a hard restart
1 Press and hold down both the volume up key andthe power key until you feel an initial vibration.
2 Continue to hold for another three vibrations.Release the keys. Your phone will restartautomatically.
The device does notrecognize my wiredheadset• Make sure the wired headset that you are using
complies to the CTIA standard. Your devicesupports the CTIA standard and may not be fullycompatible with other standards such as OMTP.
• If you have a wireless headset that is compatiblewith your device, try using that instead.
