6th Grade Teams Interdisciplinary Teams:

Team Atlantis Team Enterprise Team Endeavor Team Discovery

Interdisciplinary teams will be made up of languagearts, science, and social studies teachers.

Students will be crossed teamed in math; therefore, math teachers will not be on the team to reduce the number of preps for teachers and allow them to providethe highest quality of instruction.

Language Arts Curriculum Students will learn the 6th grade Language Arts standards. An emphasis will be placed on the following themes:

Analytical reading and thinking skillsInformational Texts Literature - Students study 2-3 novels per yearShort Stories & Poetry

Integrated Science Students will learn the 6th grade Sciencestandards. An emphasis will be placed on thefollowing themes:

Scientific Inquiry Engineering Design Biomes Ecosystems Cycles in Nature Atmosphere Ocean Currents Weather/Meteorological Data Energy and Transformations

6th Grade World History 6th Grade World History classes will examine andanalyze the beginning of early civilizations throughthe Fall of the Roman Empire.

Students will study the development of civilizationsincluding Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Israel,Greece, and Rome. The study of these civilizations will include the impactof geography, early history, cultural development,and economic change. This course will utilize appropriate informational textsand primary sources to enrich the curriculum.

Mathematics Classes Our goal for 6th grade math is to find the best “fit” for each student as they transition from 5th to 6th

grade.

Ultimately, based on all the data available, when will a student be ready for Algebra I?

The following data points will be used to identify the class that is the best fit for each student.

Mathematics Classes 6th Grade Math – Level 1

thThis course covers the state of Tennessee 6 grade math standards. Students will take the 6th grade TNReady assessment. Students who successfully complete this course will enter into 7th grade math in 7th grade.

Prerequisites: Mastery of 5th grade math standards as evidencedby a comprehensive review of the data.

Mathematics Classes 6th Grade Math – Level 2

This course covers the state of Tennessee 7th grade mathstandards. Student will take the 7th grade TNReadyassessment. Students who successfully complete this course will enter Pre-Algebra in the 7th grade.

Prerequisites: Students must have a 3-year average on TCAP/TNReadymathematics of the 80th percentile or above. STAR/AIMSWEB scores in the 90th percentile or above Students must score a 70% or above on the 6th grade mathplacement test.

Mathematics Classes 6th Grade Math – Level 3

This course covers the state of Tennessee 8th grade math standards. Students will take the 8th grade TNReadyassessment. Students who successfully complete this course will enter Honors Algebra I in 7th grade.

Prerequisites: Students must have a 3-year average on TNReady mathematics of 95th percentile or above. STAR/AIMSWEB scores in the 98th percentile or above Students must score an 85% or above on the 6th grade math placement test.

PLC & THRIVE Teachers work in academic teams weekly to:

Identify the essential learning goals Design instruction aligned to the learning goals Create formative and summative assessments Analyze student assessment data Design targeted intervention and enrichment for students based on performance data.

THRIVE is a 45 minute class designed to empower students to take ownership of their learning.

THRIVE Each week academic teams review student performance data to create THRIVE sessions to support students at all levels.

THRIVE sessions are designed each week to: Enrichment and extension activities Targeted homework help and extra practice Reteaching of important concepts/essential learning Quiz and test preparation and review sessions Missing work sessions, silent work sessions, physical activity

6th Grade Related Arts Choices Sixth grade students will select 1 Related Arts class of their choice.

Students are required to enroll in one nine weeks of Physical Education.

Students will be randomly assigned to related arts options for the other two nine week grading periods.

Registering for 6th Grade at BMS In order to register your child for 6th Grade at BMS you must complete:

The two BMS Online Registration Forms Student Input Form Related Arts Selection Form Links to the registration forms will be sent out on Tuesday, March 30th.

Registration through Skyward Family Access Deadline to Registration for WCS Online was Tues. March 23rd.

Proof of Residency All 6th grade students are required to provide proof of residency. The district is working to finalize a process for families to upload these forms through Skyward.

Legal documents of ownership or rental One of the following documents must be provided: Settlement statement, Deed, Property Tax Statement, mortgage statement, or signed current lease

Practical proof of occupancy Two current utility bills must be provided Gas, water, or electric

We will not be able to create a student’s schedule until we receive all proof of residency forms.

ALL students MUST complete this form to help us calculate our 6th grade enrollment numbers. This form will also provide us valuable information about your child, to help guide us in our decision making during scheduling.

Related Arts Selection Form- Google Form #2 Please read all directions carefully This will help ensure that your child receives the Related Arts classes they choose. If there is not enough interest in any of the Related Arts choices, we will not be able to offer the class.

BMS strives to teach each student to berespectful, responsible, and takepride in all they do.

BMS Extracurricular Activities Our goal is that every student will be involved in at least one extracurricular activity.

BMS has over 20 extracurricular activities and clubs for students to participate in.

Please help your child get involved in a club or activity of their interest.

This will help them meet new friends with similar interests and connect to BMS.

BMS Athletics Final Forms

All student athletes are required to have an annual sports physical in order to tryout for a WCS team.

Final Forms is an online platform that WCS uses to manage and store sports physicals for all athletes.

All online forms must be completed before a student is eligible to tryout for a team.
