Hewitt’s Meat Processing Inc. to be honored as MACCI’s Small Business of the YearBack in January at its Annual Dinner, MACCI announced its 2020 Small Business of the Year. That recipient was Hewitt’s Meat.

A breakfast celebrating their ac-knowledgements and recognizing their accomplishments will be held on Wednesday, September 2 at Holiday Inn Conference Center. In following the Wood County guidelines, for those of you joining us in person, tables will be set for six people and spaced apart to keep guests socially distanced from each other. Servers will be masked and gloved as they serve your breakfast. While masks are not required, they are welcomed.

Started in 1939 with two employees, Hewitt’s Meat today employs 17 people and is currently owned by a fourth gener-ation. Most recently Hewitt’s Meat opened a retail store, built a new location, and expanded into Tomahawk.

Extremely active in the community and strong community supporters, the family developed a holiday packaging distri-bution of cheese and sausage filling a void in our community.

Columbus Catholic Schools Reaches Fundaising GoalsColumbus Catholic Schools (CCS) is excited to announce it has reached and exceeded its fundraising goal for upgrading the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program. Organizers say they have reached just shy of $100,000 for the upgrades! The goal is $50,000, but the school already received a $25,000 matching donation so they were already halfway there from the start.

The fundraiser was held during the 2020 Galleon Online Auction from June 19-June 21, 2020. Galleon began with a silent auction and Live Premier on Facebook and YouTube, which included a series of videos including a presen-tation of the Columbus Catholic Catholic High School 2020 seniors, a video highlighting the need for upgrades to the CTE program. “Typically, Galleon is a live auction event seating over 300 people,” said Angela Loucks, Director of Giving and Events. “Obviously COVID-19 changed everything. First we postponed our event from April to June 19, then switched the event from an in-person event to a virtual one.”

“We talked about canceling the event, but decided it was too important to honor seniors, and raise what we could for the CTE program,” said Angela. “We decided to keep it virtual so particpants can enjoy the program from the safety of their own homes. We had around 40 people particpate in the Live Premiere, and saw over 650 post engagements thereafter. We continue to see the number of views climb on our YouTube page.”

Donations, at the time of this release, include: ● $30, 000 Challenge Donation from Wheelers Chevrolet GMC ● $20,000 Matching Donation from an anonymous donor ● $5,000 Matching Donation from Nasonville Dairy ● $28,650 in individual and business donations (surpassing the $25,000 goal) ● $15,705 profit from the silent auction

Every year during Galleon, CCS selects a project to raise money for. If you are interested in helping the Columbus Catholic Schools CTE program, there are a number of ways! ● Make a donation by contacting the Development Office at 715-387-2444 or giving @columbus dons.com ● Donate equipment by contacting Michael Lambracht at 715-387-1177 ● Volunteer in a classroom if you have a skill to share. ● Participate in the CTE Committee and help the future efforts.

Columbus Catholic Schools is a comprehensive educational system for students ages 3 through high school grad-uation. Columbus Catholic Schools builds a strong foundation of faith, knowledge and skills to help each student achieve success.

  • MARSHFIELD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY /// NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2020

Everyone at Childcaring is here to help. During these uncertain times, we are all

challenged with difficult conversations and decisions. We invite you to contact us if you

can’t find the early childhood resources you need. Childcaring is responding to the

needs and providing critical supports to families concerned about their child care

    situations.

According to the “CCR&R Response to the Coronavirus” survey from Child Care Aware®

of America (June 2020), developed to collect information on how Child Care Resource

and Referrals are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and record the concerns they

are hearing from parents and families, these are the top 3 issues that parents are asking

CCR&Rs to provide information and resources:

Childcaring staff continue to provide YoungStar Technical consultation and trainings virtually throughout the pandemic and

once again safely, on site. Currently, in North Wood county 83% of child care providers participate in YoungStar, with 58% receiving technical consultation (Childcaring data 7/01/20). YoungStar offers training, technical assistance, micro-grants, and other resources to help child care professionals provide quality child care.

In an effort to support child care providers and safe child care environments, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Childcaring

helps to collect and distribute various donations and supplies. We applied for and distributed $31,000 of local funding

throughout our service area. In order to be very purposeful when applying for these funds, Childcaring developed a short

survey for the child care programs to describe their top 2, most urgent needs. The survey was sent in April to all regulated

child care programs within our database that serves our 10-county, service delivery area. In the Marshfield area, this relief

funding from Marshfield Area United Way and Community Foundation allowed Childcaring to provide Sustainability Grants

to 10 child care programs serving 178 families with 259 children. The grant funds were sent directly to child care programs

that responded to the survey and expressed a need for assistance for things such as cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, and

other items needed for operation during this pandemic.

Our staff is available to answer questions you may have like: Are children required to wear masks while attending child

care programs? Can I receive an exception to the mask requirement for children in my child care program? A great

resource about health and safety includes Department of Children & Families (DCF’s): Navigating child care during a public

health emergency, developed to help families navigate making decisions around enrolling their child in a group or family

child care program, finding safe, high-quality care, and staying safe. Childcaring continues to update the resource list for

families and child care providers with various health and safety resources.

Top concerns of families: 1.The safety of child care environments

2.Financial assistance to cover the cost of child care

3.How to find child care programs that are open

Childcaring works to help provide resources and address questions and family concerns.

  • Combatting robocalls

MARSHFIELD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY /// NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2020

Combatting Illegal RobocallsRobocalls are a nuisance and Cellcom is committed to doing its part to combat illegal robocalls. Together with the telecom industry, strides are being made in the fight against this illegal activity.

Robocalls are phone calls that are dialed automatically, often using a computer. Everyone has received a robocall at some point in their lives. Some are useful including those about flight delays, school closures or appointment reminders. Other legal robocalls may come from debt collectors, some telemarketers and political parties. Robocalls that ignore federal and state laws governing the use of auto dialers and prerecorded messages to call consumers are considered illegal. These calls can range from unlawful solicitations for products or services to fraudulent and criminal activity.

Cellcom continues to take steps to protect our customers, including blocking invalid numbers and participating in indus-try traceback efforts to identify the source of illegal robocalls, which allows law enforcement agencies to take action as appropriate. The company continues to implement STIR/SHAKEN call authentication on its network, as well. This tech-nology diminishes the ability of robocallers to illegally spoof caller ID and improves a carrier’s ability to provide helpful information to consumers, ultimately restoring trust in caller ID.

Consumers can take action to help themselves, as well. Activate existing blocking options on your device. Features such as Samsung Smart Call, Google Call Screen and iOS Silence Unknown Callers may help you screen calls before you pick up the phone. There are also third-party apps available for combatting robocalls. Truecaller and Hiya are highly rated applications, both with free versions for iOS and Android.

There is no single answer to robocall mitigation and consumers should remain vigilant and not interact with or provide personal information to unknown or unsolicited callers. Learn more at Cellcom.com/security.

  • MARSHFIELD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY /// NEWSLETTER MAY 2020

    Friend of Ag honored

MARSHFIELD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY /// NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2020

MACCI Promotes the Importance of Agriculture Through the Agri-Business Committee and Business sponsors’ 2020 Recognitions!

Since 2007, Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Agri-Business Committee has selected a Friend of Ag from community nominations. This recognition can be for an individual/family or business/organization that strongly sup-ports Agri-Business, based upon innovation in the industry, challenges they have overcome, commitment to Agriculture and the community, as well as economic impact to the community.

MACCI’s Agri-Business Committee is proud to announce Mark Cournoyer, Auburndale as our 2020 Friend of AgricultureThis country was built on the pride and volunteerism of individuals who gave selflessly and Mark Cournoyer is a community member who continues to build. Mark was raised in the Wood County 4-H and FFA programs. After completing his education at UW-RF returned to student teach in Auburndale and has now been a strong hold of the Agriculture program for 20 years.

While Mark is a family man, he pulls in his youth and students to that same level of priority. He selflessly has opened doors to youth for programming, field trips, educa-tional experiences, and even avenues that have helped youth start their own farms and businesses just by sometimes connecting dots for them.

Mark is an active leader for the Agricultural community and FFA program, but anyone who knows him will say that his boundaries are not just his Auburndale students and that his efforts spread across all of our local communities. An example of this is Mark’s efforts for all of the livestock youth for the Market Sale and his active involvement on the committee as well as being a Chairman for the Future Generations Committee for the Wood County FTD show. Even if Mark is not named as a Friend of Ag, he will always continue his path of vocational instruction with our communities.

The testament to the person isn’t always the spotlight they are in, but their ability to stand behind the light and make it shine. Mark would be an excellent candidate for MACCI’s 2020 Friend of Ag.

With the virtual Run, Walk, and Roll, participants pick where to participate, and what time to start. They can walk, run or roll by scooter, wheelchair or bicycle outside around the neighborhood, or stay home and walk/run on a treadmill, or any other form of exer-cise that makes sense.
