On behalf of the Egyptian Scientific Society of Bronchology andthe Organizing committee, we are deeply honored to welcome you as a distinguished guest to share and attend the 14th Regional Annual Assembly Meeting of the Egyptian Scientific Society of Bronchology(ESSB), at Fairmont Heliopolis and Tower Hotel, Cairo, Egypt, 30thNovember to 4th December 2015.
The Scientific Committee has prepared a comprehensive CME-accredited scientific program that will provide health care professionals with all updates in the field of Bronchology, Pulmonary medicine, critical care, radiology and related fields.
International and national experts are invited to attend and present at the meeting which is an opportunity for attendees to share and exchange experience with the latest updates in the field.

Professor Hosny graduated from Ain Shams university Medical School, Cairo in 1955. He served his internship and received training at the Chest and Thoracic surgery Departments Ain Shams University Hospitals from 1956 to1958. He pursued his Doctorat degree in United Kingdom at the Brompton Hospital in London from1960 -1962 and was appointed as a consultant in Middlesex Hospital in 1962.
While in Egypt he escalated in his academic career to be the Head of Chest Department at Ain Shams University from 1984 -1990, followed by Professor Emeritus from 1992 to 2012.
Professor Hosny was a member and fellow of many scientific and international organizations, he served as Governor and Regent of the ACCP Egyptian Chapter from 1979 to 1996. He was as well member and fellow of the Egyptian Olympic Medical Society and Hellenic Association of Sports Medicine. He was one of the major pillars in founding the Egyptian Scientific Society of Bronchology in 2001; his activities and role in this society and others were great as he headed many of the scientific committees both regionally and locally.
Professor Hosny worked very hard in the CME programs in different avenues of the respiratory field from Upper to Lower Egypt. He was the first to introduce Flexible Optic Bronchoscopy in Egypt in 1972 and developed the practice of bronchoscopy through educational programs and hands on training. He was as well involved in the establishment of the Interventional Bronchoscopy Unit at Ain Shams University in 1991 by introducing Laser Treatment and Rigid Bronchoscopies for Tumor Debulking. He was as well behind many establishments such as Mycology, Sleep, PFTs and Laser Units. Professor Hosny received many international and local awards such as the Golden Award from the WHO in 1972, the Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh(FRCP), Egyptian Medical Syndicate Awards and lately the Egyptian Recognition Award in 2009.
In addition to his university appointments and academic career, Professor Hosny had a very busy medical practice, he was extremely recognized and appreciated by his colleagues and patients and was the authority and reference in the field of Pulmonary Medicine in the region.
Apart from his professional activities, he was a man of high style, we learned a lot from his humanitarian behavior, patients doctor relationship and he was the mentor and idol of many nowadays well known key opinion leaders. He always gave charm and compassion around him and so much intellectual in many aspects in life and had his own philosophy in the savoir vivre.
How sad is this tremendous loss and how sad it is for those who didn’t get the chance to be close to Professor Hosny. His contributions in the field of Pulmonary Medicine were remarkable and highly appreciated. May God bless him, his family, patients, friends and students and may his soul rest in peace.

Professor El-Sorougi graduated from Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University in 1962. He became a House Officer in the period between 1962 -1963. From 1963 -1965, he got his residency at the Chest Department, Kasr El-Ani Hospitals. Later on, he became a Clinical Demonstrator from1966 -1968. Meanwhile, he got his diplomas of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis and then in Internal Medicine in 1965 and 1968 respectively. As a result, he became Assistant Lecturer at the same department from 1968 -1973. He pursued his Doctorate degree and was awarded his M.D. in 1972. Afterwards, he became Lecturer in the Chest Department 1973 -1978, Assistant Professor 1978 -1983 and Professor of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis in 1983. In 1996, he was appointed as Chairman of the Chest Department, Faculty of Medicine,Cairo Univeristy . In the beginning of his academic career, he initiated Pulmonary Function Unit in 1963 and became its Director up till 1999.
Professor El-Sorougi was a member and fellow of many scientific and international organizations, the Egyptian Medical Association 1963, Egyptian Society of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis (Member of the board), 1965, International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases1980, Fellow of American College of Chest Physicians 1990, Member of NewYork Academy of Science 1990, Fellow of Royal Society of Medicine (Respiratory Division) (Founder Member) 1991, Member of European Respiratory Society 1991, Fellow of International Academy of Chest Physicians & Surgeons 1991, Pan-Arab Association of Chest Medicine and Surgery (Member of the board -Representative of Egypt) 1993, Member of World and American Associations of Bronchology 1994, Member of American Association for the Advancement of Sciences 1994, Member of the board Medeterania Thoracic Society (Founder member) 1998, Member of American Thoracic Society 1996, In November 2003 elected as Governor of Egyptian Chapter of American College of Chest Physicians.
Professor El-Sorougi received many international and local awards such as, Prof. Hassan Hamdy Award for Best Physiology Research, 1995. He supervised a lot of M.Sc. and M.D. degrees in different national universities. Moreover, he participated in a number of researches which were published and/or presented in International Conferences.While being a Chairman of the Chest Department, he renovated the Chest Department totally including units of Pulmonary Function Tests, The Interventional Bronchology Unit and established a new Respiratory Intensive Care Unit in the Department. He also established and supervised the Chest Unit including Respiratory Intensive Care Unit at El Manial Specialized University Hospital. In addition, he established Pulmonary Function Unit at Maadi Military Hospital. He also shared in the scientific and technical initiation of the National Chest Research Center in Imbaba.
He became the head of the Scientific Committee for promotions of Assistant Lecturers and Professors. He designed and published the syllabus for the Chest Diseases for year 3 in the Physical Therapy College. He also participated in scientific supervision and training of junior pulmonologists in Chest Departments in Al Azhar, El Minya, Suez Canal and Military Hospitals. Furthermore, together with the late Professor Hassan Hosny, he supervised and took part in the national textbook for chest diseases to be distributed to all Egyptian Pulmonologists free. Finally, he was the deputy editor of the Egyptian Magazine for Chest and Tuberculosis.
In addition to his university responsibilities and academic career, Professor El-Sorougi had a very busy medical practice where he was extremely recognized and appreciated by his colleagues, patients and everyone who got to know him personally.

Professor Mahfouz graduated from Assiut Medical School in 1977 whichis one of the highly appreciated and recognized faculties in Egypt, heserved his internership and subspeciality training in Pulmonary Medicinefrom 1978 to 1986 and pursued his doctorat degree in United Kingdom on Interventional Laser Bronchoscopy.
While in Egypt he escalated in his academic career to be the Head of the Chest Department Assiut University from 2006 to 2009.
Professor Mahfouz was a member and fellow of many scientific and international organizations including the European Respiratory Society (ERS), the World Association for Bronchology and the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP); however he was one of the major pillars in founding the Egyptian Scientific Society of Bronchology in 2001. His activities and role in this Society were great as he organized and was the Head of the Scientific Organizing Committees of many Regional conferences in Assiut, Luxor, Istanbul and Dubai. He worked very hard in the CME programs in different avenues of the Respiratory field from Upper to Lower Egypt and organized as well a lot of workshops including Hands on experience in Fiberoptic and Interventional Bronchoscopy as well as Thoracoscopy, Sleep Functions, Radiology, Intensive Care and PFTs.
Professor Mahfouz was behind the establishment of the Bronchoscopy and Interventional Unit at Assiut Chest Department by fund raising; he was able to upgrade the service with the autoflurescence for early diagnosis of Lung Cancer, Argon Plasma, Cryo, Electro, Endobronhial US and Stenting. He established and supervised the PFT Unit, the Sleep lab, and the ICU. He was starting to plan for the PulmonaryHypertension Unit as a diagnostic and therapeutic centre in Upper Egypt. He had as well been involved in the establishment and supervision of many Respiratory Units in Upper Egypt such as El-Minia, Qena and Sohag Universities. He supervised a large number of Masters, MD. Thesis and published many papers in different regional and international journals.
In addition to his university appointments and role in international societies, Professor Mahfouz had a busy private medical practice; he was extremely recognized and appreciated by his colleagues and patients and was an authority in the field of pulmonary medicine.
More recently he had successfully focused his efforts on creating avenues for CMEs and had been instrumental in organizing numerous national and international postgraduate courses and hands-on training workshops for Chest Physicians in Egypt and Regional.
Contributions of late Professor Tarek Mahfouz in the field of Pulmonary Medicine both nationally and regionally were remarkable, may God bless him and his family, and may his soul rest in peace.
