A message from Meg On Monday we welcomed Mr Michael McCormack to our school. We performed two songs for him before Sadie, Tom and Maeve took Mr McCormack on a tour.
Mr McCormack was particularly interested in the Stage 3 students’ research task about Australia’s political history, supporting our History topic Australia as a Nation. He enjoyed playing cricket at lunch time and was impressed with our beautiful big playground.
It was a pleasure to host Mr McCormack at Illabo Public School. The students appreciated the opportunity to show him their classrooms and share some of their learning with him. I was extremely proud of the way all students conducted themselves throughout the day.
Thank you to Lyndal and Chrissy for supplying slices for the visit, they were very appreciated by all who were here.
Our Learning Habit this week is Reasoning. When we use reasoning, we create logical arguments for solving problems and look for evidence before progressing. We can spot the flaws in other people’s arguments. Next week we will focus on Meta-learning. Meta-learning refers to the process of learning about our strengths and focus areas. When we practice Meta-learning, we seek feedback from others and look for ways to become a better learner.
This week we welcome Miss Lily Irvin from CSU who is completing her placement for the next 5 weeks. We are delighted to have Lily with us and feel sure she will gain a lot from her experience at IPS.
Thank you to everyone who came to our Book week parade last Friday. The students looked great in their costumes and really got into the spirit of sharing their secret power with everyone! A big thank you to Miss Callow, Mr Steward and Mrs Ryan for their help with organising the parade and to our Year 6 students for leading it.
This week is SASS (School Administrative and Support Staff) Recognition Week. We would like to thank our SASS staff – Julie Ryan, Kim Guthrie, Megan Callow, Max Harris and Wayne Manning who all do above and beyond, helping to make Illabo PS the wonderful school that it is.
A message from Lily
Hello, my name is Lily Irvin and I am in my final year of Early Childhood and Primary Education at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga. I will be completing my five week placement here at Illabo Public School commencing on the 26 August to the 27 September.
Feel free to ask me any questions or give me feedback on any interactions or work I complete here. I look forward to meeting you and your children in my time here.
A little bit about me... I am from a small town called Deniliquin and live on a farm. I moved to Wagga 5 years ago for University and now call Wagga home with my partner, Chris and our gorgeous dog, Bella. I currently work in Childcare as a Junior Preschool Teacher and Room Leader in a Wagga based centre where I enjoy creating play-based activities and working with the children to extend their literacy, numeracy and social skills.
Thursday Assembly Our next fortnightly Assembly is to be this Thursday, 29 August at 2:45pm. All very welcome.
Father’s Day Barbecue We wish all of our fathers and grandfathers a very happy Father’s Day this Sunday and welcome you all to a special Father’s Day barbecue on Friday, 6 September at 8:00am.

Did you know? Technology Facts 1. TVs receive and then display broadcasts of images
that move so fast they appear as a smooth motion to the human eye.
2. The internet and the World Wide Web is not the same thing. The internet is a network of other smaller networks that link computers together all over the world. The World Wide Web is a collection of linked pages that can be used with the help of the internet and a web browser.
3. All electrical devices have fuses in them. Fuses are essentially fire-breakers. If there is a power surge, the fuse will break, preventing any damage or fire.
4. Electronic computers were developed around the 1940s and were the size of a large room. Today, computers have gotten so small that they have been embedded into other things like microwaves, toys, mobile phones, etc.
5. In 1495, Leonardo da Vinci sketched out designs for a humanoid robot. Today, there are many robot prototypes being made.
