Welcome Home

It was 1994 when Lakland Basses was born in Chicago, Illinois from the collective

vision of three principals – a luthier and two musicians – who shared a common

goal of creating a new bass that would carry on the lineage of the great

American builders. Lakland provides bass guitars that combine elements

of the pioneering bass builders whose designs are the very definitions of

traditional style and ergonomics, with contemporary components to match

and surpass the playability of more esoteric basses that have entered the

market in recent years. Lakland bass guitars have a sound and feel that are at

once familiar and unique – any player who picks up a Lakland bass immediately

feels at home. Welcome home to Lakland Basses.

Bass Done RigHt

At Lakland, we concern ourselves with quality at every step of our

process. All Lakland bodies and necks are precision-machined from

the best pieces of tone wood to ensure that every instrument meets

our strict standards of excellence without variation from bass to bass.

The quality of our details comes from the tireless work of our Lakland

team – a group of musicians and craftsmen who understand what other

players are looking for.

Lakland Bass Guitars are among the market’s most well respected instruments; favored by discerning players and professional artists worldwide. The vintage comfort and contemporary ingenuity of our basses deliver an unparalleled playing experience.

Since the introduction of our flagship models in the mid 1990’s, our

basses have been recognized for their superior tone, playability and

construction. At Lakland, we invest in innovation and set new benchmarks

for quality and versatility. We listen to the instruments and to the people

who play them. Anything we can do better, we will do best.

“I get invaluable feedback from our players when I ask them, ‘What don’t you like about our basses?’ Once we know that, we make better basses.” - Dan Lakin

Lakland 4-string basses are among the most well-built

instruments on the market. The look and feel of the Lakland

4-string bass is instantly familiar to anyone who is a fan of

traditional aesthetics. The 44-94 has a unique personality;

drawing on the best aspects of classic basses and updating

them with modern playability and construction that is second

to none. With the ability to emulate the tones of many

popular basses, the Lakland 4-string also maintains a tonal

character all its own.

The 44-94 was our very first bass; the one that started it all.

Configured with a split MM pickup in the bridge position and

a single J-style pickup at the neck, with a a splitter switch for

the bridge pickup; all coils are independently humbucked.

More pro gear priced for those of us without a road crew. The 44-02 has an active punch that will drive your sound clearly through any mix, but is also subtle and refined to fit well into any playing situation. The pickups and onboard preamp on the 44-02 are the same configuration as you’ll find on our US-made 44-94. The 44-02 doesn’t care if your gig is at a local tavern or the local arena. It pushes 100% pure tone every night.

market. The 35” scale insures a tight ringing low B-string and

solid intonation. Designed by players for players, our 5-string

neck is well known as one the most comfortable available.

The 44-60 combines the best of the old and new. A classic

design with state of the art engineering upgrades. It combines

such modern enhancements as our heavy duty string through

body bridge, precise 27:1 tuning machines and graphite neck

reinforcement to name a few. Our neck dimensions are just

like Joe’s 1961 model. It is beyond comfortable, some have

called it perfect!

It was his bass that gave movement and depth to hits like The Age of Aquarius and Bridge Over Troubled Water. Joe Osborn’s career began in the 1960’s and he has been one of the industry’s most prolific sidemen, recording on hundreds of Top 40 hits with artists such as: The Mamas & The Papas, The Fifth Dimension, Rick Nelson, Simon & Garfunkel, and Johnny Rivers to name but a few. Joe holds four Academy of Country Music Hat Awards and was the recipient of Bass Player Magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Decade is designed to take advantage of a strategically wide

pickup placement. A true neck position pickup provides earth

moving low end and warmth. The super punchy bridge pickup

delivers effortless “Jaco style” tone. You need to hear this bass to

believe it! Because of it’s extra wide tonal range, many seasoned

ears have mistaken the passive Decade for an active instrument.

The body shape is a Lakland original yet looks like a timeless

classic. The pickguard, affectionately referred to as “The Molar”,

really adds to the Decade’s style. Our spoke wheel truss rod

adjustment offers the Decade the deepest neck pickup location on

the market.

Lakland would like to sincerely thank our online advisors, who

were “instrumental” in bringing the Decade to life. They provided

valuable suggestions from the initial prototype to actually naming

the bass. Proof that Lakland listens to its customers!

A vintage tone knob is optional on active Decades. Designed for high output with a wide frequency response, ChiSonics give you warm, rounded bottom, detailed mids, and a smooth, natural high end.

A striking mahogany body finished in a classic translucent cherry finish really set this first edition Skyline Decade ahead of the pack. We use the same US made Chi-Sonics as in the US Decade to offer deep rich sound as well as a warm pointed tone from the back pickup. High-end pearl blocks and white binding ensure that this bass will not be ignored. Look for more color and fingerboard combos coming in 2009.

Since the 1970’s, Bob’s solid sound and tasteful playing style have become unmistakable.

Duck Dunn’s grooving bass was a key part of a 1960’s sound so distinctive that it is still commonly referred to as the “Stax Sound”. Duck has backed Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Albert King; he has worked with artists such as Roy Buchanan, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, Muddy Waters and Neil Young. In collaboration with Booker T. and the Blues Brothers, Duck recorded bass parts so undeniably funky that they have influenced bassists ever since. Duck is a key member of the Blues Brothers Band, and one of the world’s preeminent players.

with master bass guitar builder, Michael Tobias. The

Hollowbody model is constructed from two halves of precision

carved, fine tone wood.

The Hollowbody provides a range of robust tones that more

than match the bass’ gorgeous appearance. From deep,

authoritative notes reminiscent of an upright to aggressive

and throaty sounds capable of cutting through as a solo voice,

the Hollowbody is responsive, with a solid tonal center that

many hollow basses lack.
