Welcome to UCA! We’re delighted you’ve chosen to study with us and become part of our creative community.
To help you prepare before joining us in September, this guide outlines your reading list and the equipment you’ll need for your course. Also don’t forget to complete your summer project as provided in our recent newsletter. If you have not received this please contact Paul as soon as possible via the contact details below. Remember to look at you course timetable in this guide too.

Course Costs
Equipment & Materials [needed]You’ll need the following everyday materials many of which are available from our University shop. When we get closer to the subject specialist units we will advise you on the tools and materials that you’re likely to need.
Over the course of study you’ll require the following:
– A1 portfolio
– A piece of non-absorbent board or Perspex for mixing
paint
– Acrylic paint set
– Oil Paint set
– Range of brushes (flat and round)
– Thick and thin charcoal (willow sticks) and compressed charcoal
VisitsDuring Induction Week we expect to make a visit to London by train. You’ll need to budget for the cost of off-peak train fare inclusive of the Underground.
We make study visits during the year. Destinations and prices vary but you can expect to pay your own travel costs to participate.
In the past, the course has made overseas trips to Paris and Berlin. These overseas trips are not compulsory but we hope all students will participate; costs range from £160 – £250 depending on mode of travel and accommodation.
Visits are usually for 4 days and usually include breakfast. You’ll need to cover the cost of other meals yourself.
– Sketchbooks (2 to 3 in a range of sizes, and quality of paper)
– Notebook
– Putty rubber
– Pencils
– Masking tape
– Scissors
– Hammer
– Screwdrivers (1 flat and 1 cross-head - medium)
– Screws, nails, pack of bulldog clips
– Pliers
– Medium bottle of Indian Ink
– USB Storage device
– Set of Graphic pens (various colours).
Equipment & Materials [recommended]Equipment is provided so you don’t need to acquire your own but if you want to you would benefit from having the following. These are the basic tools of any artist.
– An electric drill /screwdriver
– A level
– Clamps x2
– Digital camera and tripod.
