WelcomeMESSAGE
Dear Friends,
Thank you for picking up a copy of the PAssionArts Festival Guide. The 7th edition of the nationwide arts festival, PAssionArts Festival, will be held from Saturday, 30 June 2018, to Saturday, 25 August 2018.
The Festival theme, ‘Arts of Wonder’, expresses the hope of the PAssionArts team for all to use arts to showcase the innovative spirit and aspirations of Singaporeans. The Festival also aims to foster a sense of togetherness through the arts to celebrate National Day!
From 30 June to 25 August, you can look forward to over 500 art activities and programmes island-wide, including visual art displays and performing arts co-created by residents and artists. Through the collective efforts of 88 Community Arts and Culture Clubs (CACCs), the Festival will bring the arts closer to your neighbourhood, and at the same time, create an opportunity for all to showcase shared values and hopes for Singapore.
What is special about this year’s Festival is that most of the 52 ‘Arts of Wonder’ Festival Villages would contain plenty of vibrant and exciting art elements that promise fun-filled programmes fit for the whole family! There are different themes catered for all, mainly: YOUNG, Multi-Ethnic, HeART and ALIVE.
You will also get to see the Animal Plank Art co-created by 15,000 residents and young families featuring the Lion which symbolises ‘Loving Singapore’; the Giraffe exemplifying ‘Art Volunteerism’; and the Otter Family signifying ‘Family Pursing Arts Together’. There will also be a variety of art forms island-wide that represent the history and unique character of the various estates.
Come and be inspired by the many Festival Villages. Better still, speak to our PAssionArts volunteers if you wish to be part of the big PAssionArts Family. To find out more, check out our website at facebook.com/PAssionArtsSG.
Yours sincerely,
The PAssionArts Family

In the fifth edition of Coming Home, a contemporary co-creation project between residents and artists, the Aljunied community will come together once again to explore and co-create artworks with different perspectives of home.
Do you remember the crocodile farm that was located along Upper Serangoon Road from the early 1970s till the 2000s? Although not many locals are aware of its existence, it is a place that residents living within the vicinity remember and miss fondly.
Through the theme of “Play”, the festival village will be turned into a giant crocodile farm playground for the young and young at heart. Come and see home in a new light!

THE FLAVOURS OF CHONG PANGTo showcase the beauty of recycling and upcycling, eco-artist Didier used various recycled materials to create a favourite local drink and local dessert that will be displayed around Chong Pang estate.
bIRD ART @ KEBUn BARU As an ode to Kebun Baru for being the homeground for bird lovers, a series of bird art displays adapted from the Kebun Baru CC logo have been designed by students and presented at Mayflower Market.
STRING OF DIVERSITYA co-creation with residents using strings, this exhibit comprises a total of eight art pieces with faces of different races in their traditional cultural performance costumes. This exhibit celebrates different ethnicities, harmony and respect for one another.

DREAM TREEThe tree is communal – much like a tree of information, it instills a sense of belonging and purpose in a community.
This dream tree installation is inspired by Punggol. On top of the tree, lights stream across to connect with other trees, invoking a sense of nostalgia and kampong spirit.
You are also invited to leave messages on the trees as a form of memory.

RibbonART @ KHATIB Be part of an art-maze-ing experience with this creation by Nee Soon South CACC, residents and artist Teo Huey Ling. A maze in the shape of a Merlion will be erected in the heart of Khatib. You can explore the maze to find artworks done by residents.
Walking through the entrance at the mouth, you will encounter four different zones: glittering portraits, rainbow colours, radiant hearts and finally, a garden of flowers.

THE VISIT OF
RANGUNGInspired by Rangung’s six different life forms, these 30 egg sculptures represent humans, trees, chickens, fishes, pigs, and flowers.
These life forms have also been painted to mimic early art forms such as prehistoric cave art. The adaptation alludes to the long history of Punggol, which used to be a well-established rural district dotted with farmhouses and farm structures, and was one of the oldest settlements in Singapore.
COMING HOME: THE PLAYFUL FIVEIn this fifth edition of Coming Home, the theme of “Play” brings you back to a time when the crocodile farm along Upper Serangoon Road was still around. A giant crocodile playground co-created by residents and artists offers you tons of fun and exploration!
