Welcome Freshmen!• You’ve finally made it, you’re now in

high school!• We hope you make an easy transition

from middle school and make the most out of your four years here.

• This slideshow is to give you the basics of our school system and help you find more ways to get involved.

Principal

Chicopee Comp’s principal is Mr. Morrison. He is responsible for the overall matters of our school and a dignified leader within our building. A majority of the time you will see Mr. Morrison walking around during your lunch interacting with the students. Be sure to say hi!

Vice Principals• At Chicopee Comp, we have three vice-principals,

with one located on each floor.• Mr. Peterson and Mr. Jendrysik attend to the

freshmen and sophomore classes.• Ms. Fennessey attends to the juniors and seniors.

Guidance Counselors• Your guidance counselor at Comp will

help guide and structure your educational and vocational direction while serving as a motivational source.

• They will also help you determine which classes will suit your interests and will resolve any of your schedule conflicts.

• If you have any questions regarding classes, college, standardized testing, or grades you can go see your guidance counselor.

Officer Morissette and Nurses

• Officer Morissette is our school resource officer.

• His office is on the second floor next to the library.

• In order to serve our whole school, we have two school nurses

• The clinic is located on the first floor next to the guidance office.

Health Services• The school nurses are available

for all of your health concerns. They are able to dispense your prescription medications, offer guidance, and contact your parents in the event of a health emergency.

• Ms. Maslowski is the substance abuse counselor. She is available by appointment.

Career & Technical Education• Chicopee Comp is a vocational school; this

means that we offer instruction and practical, introductory experience in skilled trades on a secondary level.

• Students who select Career & Technical Education will graduate with solid academic preparation along with advanced technical skills necessary for acceptance to a post-secondary institution.

• Career and Technical Education also offers all District secondary students the opportunity to participate in hybrid hi-tech elective programs such as CISCO, Graphics Communications, Digital Photography and Business and Information Technology.

• In some cases, students are also able to receive college credit upon successful completion of Career Tech. courses.

• The Career & Technical Education director is Mr. Widelo, and the Career & Technical Education coordinator is Mr. Ingram.

• If you decide to be a part of Career Tech. the following programs are offered:

• Automotive Technology• Carpentry• Culinary Arts• Drafting• Electricity• Horticulture• Information Support Services and Networking• Machine Tool Technology• Metal Fabrication and Joining Technology

Grading System• Good grades are the foundation for

success in high school.• Most teachers assign grades based on a

scale of 100.• Mid-term progress reports and report

cards may be used to measure your academic performance.

• Iparent is online access for all of your classes to keep yourself updated on your grades and any missing assignments.

• For half year courses, 2.5 credits are awarded. For full year courses, 5 credits are awarded.

Lockers• Lockers provide a space to keep your

books, notebooks, homework, and personal belongings during the school day.

• You are encouraged to use your locker before or after school or between classes.

• Lockers are your own private space, and they should not be shared with others.

• Since your personal belonging are stored in your locker, you should not allow others access to your locker.

Library• Our school library is located on the

second floor, right above our entrance lobby.

• The library is run by student aides, our media tech - Ms. Danek, and our librarian - Mrs. Crowther.

• The library offers you access to computers, research databases, books, eBooks

(electronic books), magazines, and DVDs.

Advisories• Every Wednesday between third and

fourth periods there are advisories.• You will have your advisory with a

teacher that you do not have during your academic classes.

• Your advisory is designed as a time to get out of class and talk to a new group of students.

Lunches• There are many types of lunches offered in

our school. Everyday the cafeteria offers a hot lunch line, a bagel bar, and a salad bar, along with a pasta bar every Tuesday and Thursday. All of the bars are $1.60, and are included with prepaid, reduced, and free lunches.

• There are 5 lunches. Each lunch is color coded on your ID for entrance into the cafeteria.

• Students must stay on the first floor until their lunches end.

Dress Code Violations• The dress code at Comp is strictly

enforced:• No open-toed shoes• No strapless tops; bare midriff or

back• No see-through clothing• No shorts that go above the

fingertips• No clothing items with offensive

writing or profanity on it• Pants must be worn at the waist• No hats or bandanas

Dress Code Punishments• 1st offense – 5 demerits and student will be

sent to Student Support Center (SSC) until someone brings them a change of clothes.

• 2nd offense – Thursday School and student will be sent to SSC until someone brings them a change of clothes.

• 3rd offense – Thursday School and student will be sent to SSC until someone brings them a change of clothes.

• 4th offense –SSC for one day and SSC on day of violation until someone brings the student a change of clothes

Disciplinary Actions• When there are in-class issues, a

teacher is inclined to react. A teacher may give you a session for an upcoming period of time.

• Teachers also may call your vice principal, leaving it up to his or her discretion to react to your actions.

Bullying• Bullying is taken very seriously at

Comp. Students will be reprimanded for any harassments or issues brought upon a fellow student.

• If you ever feel uncomfortble, harassed, threatened, or as if you need to speak to someone, you can always go to a teacher, guidance counselor, or vice-principal.

• Identities will remain anonymous if preferred.

Getting Involved at Comp

• Comp offers a variety of sports and clubs for you to participate in.

• It’s a great way to get involved and meet people who share similar interests or hobbies

• If there’s an activity, club, or sport that you’re interested in but isn’t offered at Comp, you can always start one by getting enough people to join and a teacher/administrator to run it.

Spirit Week• Every April, Student Council sponsors

Spirit Week, a week of fun-filled activities and fundraisers.

• The week serves as a large competition between the classes in the school.

• Spirit Week is a fun time for those who deserve it. If you behave inappropriately, you may not be able to take part in it.

Last but not least…• Your four years in high school will

go by extremely quickly.• Make sure you make the right

decisions, maintain good grades, and surround yourself with supportive people.
