HELLO, MY NAME IS ERIQA BURSON. MY BUSINESS, EVENTS BY ERIQA, IS LOCATED IN CHESTERFIELD, VIRGINIA, AND WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2016. SINCE STARING MY OWN BUSINESS, I HAVE PLANNED NUMEROUS EVENTS AND WORKED FOR SEVERAL DIFFERENT EVENT PLANNING BUSINESSES. THESE EVENTS RANGE FROM WEDDINGS, ANNIVERSARY AND BIRTHDAY PARTIES, TO SOCIAL SOIREES AND SPECIAL EVENTS. AFTER ASSISTING IN THE PLANNING OF FAMILY/FRIEND EVENTS, I REALIZED MY LOVE FOR DESIGN AND PLANNING AND DECIDED TO TURN IT INTO A BUSINESS TO ENSURE OTHER PEOPLE CAN EXPERIENCE THEIR SPECIAL DAY EXACTLY HOW THEY ENVISIONED IT. HAVING A GOOD EYE FOR COLOR SCHEMES AND KNOWING HOW TO MANIPULATE AND MAXIMIZE DIFFERENT SPACES WAS ALSO A SKILL THAT I COULD USE TO MY ADVANTAGE. SO, I DECIDED TO ENROLL IN A WEDDING AND EVENT PLANNING COURSE AT VCU TO BECOME A CERTIFIED WEDDING AND EVENT PLANNER. NOW, I GET TO ASSIST OTHERS WITH PLANNING AND DESIGNING THEIR DREAM EVENTS AND CREATING UNFORGETTABLE MEMORIES.

BECAUSE I HAVE A CREATIVE EYE, I DECIDED TO DESIGN AND PLAN EVENTS WITH NOT LIMITS. I WANTED TO BE VERSATILE WHEN HELPING CUSTOMERS PLAN AND DESIGN EVENTS, SO I DECIDED TO FOCUS SPECIFICALLY ON SOCIAL SOIREES, WEDDINGS, AND BRIDAL SHOWERS DURING BUSIER SEASONS. ON OFF SEASONS, THE FOCUS IS PLACED ON BIRTHDAY, HOLIDAY AND ANNIVERSARY PARTIES, AND FUNDRAISING. AFTER STARTING EVENTS BY ERIQA, I DECIDED TO PARTNER WITH A LOCAL WEDDING PLANNER SO THAT I COULD FOCUS MORE ON DESIGN AND STILL BE ABLE TO ASSIST WITH PLANNING. Wedding/Event Design & Planning Service Packages

*Bronze Package - $600(For those who just need help getting started, or at any point in the process of planning, where a little assistance is needed. For both planning and designing, we’ll help create a “roadmap” for the client(s) and they’ll do most of the planning for their special day.)

*Silver Package - $1,100(For those wanting professional assistance only on the day of their wedding. Due to this package usually just having services provided 1-2 weeks before the wedding, we will take care of all the mundane tasks that still need to be done, including décor setup.)

Confirm all vendor arrangements, times and discuss in-depth details of their responsibilities, ensuring there are no last-minute problems. Three days prior:

Prepare ceremony outline to include order of procession and recession and song list. Coordinate details of ceremony rehearsal (i.e. how to seat family and guests). Explain responsibilities to ushers, best man and maid of honor. One hour prior:

A coordinator will arrive at your ceremony to direct your guests and your ceremony on the day of the wedding. The coordinator will be your personal bridal consultant by helping you with your dress, pinning on corsages and honoring any other request you may have. Our goal is for you to enjoy the most important day of your life.

Destination Weddings/Events - $ 1,500 to $7,000

Events that will be taking place at a destination site will be part of a customizable package that is made by the client, planner, and designer. This package is customizable because it depends on where the wedding or event is said to take place and what is needed for that location. This package could range from all inclusive planning and designing to little to no help with planning and designing.

Customizable Package A - $600 to $6,000

This package is for people/couples who don’t necessarily need everything that is listed under the packages that are listed above. Here, the client(s) can pick and choose how they would like to use our services. This package is also for smaller events that may not need everything in the packages above.

Customizable Package B - $75, $250, $300 and up

This package is for clients who may or may not be having an event that is wedding related. This includes any of our events that are included in the “Wedding Related” of the “Additional Services” sections that are listed on the Packages Page.

Wedding/ “Day Of” Emergency Package - $250 and up

(This is for the couples who have finished planning but want someone to stress about the little things that are left.)

Cancellation Policy

The Undersigned agrees to let ____________________________________ know of any changes to the wedding/event and or vendors that they will be using. Marriage License & Civil Ceremony Information

Chesterfield County, Virginia

How to Obtain a Marriage License:*The minimum age for marriage in Virginia is 18 years old, unless a minor has been emancipated by court order.

Marriage must take place in Virginia. A self-addressed, stamped envelope should be presented for the return of a

certified copy of the license. Both parties must be present and must be prepared to present a valid

government-issued photo I.D. to confirm age eligibility. Minimum age at which persons may marry is 18, unless a minor has been

emancipated by court order. Application for a marriage license, an emancipated minor must provide a

certified copy of the order of emancipation.

Civil CeremonyAll of the requirements above are the same for a civil ceremony. However, you do have to fill out the application in-person and there is a $72 fee. You are still required to be of age and have proof of identification. Additional information can be found on the Chesterfield County website. - Helps the bride select bridesmaids’ attire - Helps address invitations and place cards - Attends as many prenuptial events as possible - Organizes bridesmaids’ gift to the bride. Usually gives an individual gift to the

couple - Makes sure that all bridesmaids, the flower girl, and the ring bearer are at

fittings, the rehearsal, and the ceremony on time - Is expected to attend the rehearsal and is included at the rehearsal dinner - Walks in processional and recessional - Holds the groom’s wedding ring - Helps with bride’s gown - Arranges the bride’s veil and train before the processional and recessional - Makes sure the bride’s gown is “picture perfect” throughout the day - Holds the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony - Witnesses the signing of the marriage certificate - Stands in the receiving line

Bridesmaids- Assist the Maid of Honor as requested - Attend as many prenuptial vents as possible - Possibly host or co-host a party or shower (optional) - Assist the bride with errands - Contribute to bridesmaids’ gift to the bride. Usually gives an individual gift to

the couple - Are expected to attend the rehearsal and are included at the rehearsal dinner - Arrive at dressing site promptly - Walk in processional and recessional - Possibly participate in receiving line - Dance with ushers and single male guests - Help gather guests for the first dance, cake cutting, and bouquet toss- Participate in bouquet toss, if single- Look after the couple’s elderly relatives and/or friends - Pays for own wedding attire and transportation to the wedding

Best Man - Organizes a pre-wedding party for the groom - Coordinates the ushers’ gift to the groom. Usually gives an individual gift to

the couple - Is expected to attend the rehearsal and is included in the rehearsal dinner - Gets the groom dressed and to the ceremony on time - Makes sure the groom’s wedding related expenses are prepared (officiant fee,

tips, etc.)- Makes sure the groom has the marriage license with him - Delivers any payment to Officiant, sexton, and ceremony musician(s), as

prearranged - Enters the sanctuary with the groom - Takes care of and holds the bride’s wedding ring - Makes sure all ushers are properly attired and in place on time - Walks in the recessional - Witnesses the signing of the marriage certificate - Drives the bride and groom to reception, if no driver is hired - Helps welcome guests at the reception - Offers first toast to bride and groom at reception - Dances with the bride, maid of honor, mothers, and single female guests - Helps the groom get ready for the honeymoon - Gathers up and takes care of groom’s wedding clothes after he changes

- Has a car ready for the bride and groom to leave the reception or perhaps drives them to their next destination

Head Usher’s - Expected to attend the rehearsal and is included at the rehearsal dinner - Receives any lists of guests who are to be seated in a specific pew an dis

aware of the importance and sequence of seating special guests, such as the mothers and grandmothers of the bride and groom

- Makes sure that programs, if used, are handed to guests when they are seated - Makes sure that people who are designated to receive special flowers or

corsages do receive them, if the flowers have not been delivered to the recipients beforehand

- Checks that all ushers are dressed properly and wearing their boutonnieres on the left side, stem down

- Makes sure that the ushers know how to usher: how to greet guests, how to offer an arm to a single woman guest, and how to precede a couple to their seats

- Helps gather the wedding party for photographs either before or after the ceremony and ensures that transportation arrangements have been made for all members of the wedding party to and from the ceremony

Essay

Events By Eriqa is a wedding planning and design business started in Chesterfield, Virginia in 2018. As an owner, I started out with just planning, but soon realized that I had a passion for design as well. So, I decided to incorporate it into my business and assist with planning when needed. My mission is to ensure that clients have the event or wedding that they have always dreamed of. We plan to accomplish this by meeting with our clients several times throughout the planning and design process to ensure that everything is being done to their liking.

We offer multiple wedding and event packages to give our clients a variety of options to make sure that we meet all of their demands. Our packages range from us only providing a “roadmap” for couples who would like to plan their own wedding/event, to us fully planning and designing everything from start to finish. There are also customizable packages that allows our staff and clients to pick and choose when/what services to use. In addition, our other services include proposal planning, engagement and bachelor/bachelorette parties, bridal showers, social soirees, special events, and creating “Day Of” emergency kits.

While some businesses focus on a specific group or specific class of people, my business is inclusive of everyone because people are always looking to plan the event of a lifetime. My marketing plan targets everyone. Due to the variety of services offered, there is something for people of all ages. However, our specialties are in weddings and corporate events. I plan to advertise my business thorugh word-of-mouth, in local bridal magazines, and on social media. Not only will this allow me to have diversity amongst my client base, but it will help expand my business and experience.

Despite offering a variety of services, there are several aspects that set us apart from our competitors. Our clients are our number one priority and we pride ourselves on that. Meeting with our clients on a regular basis is important to us. Others may prefer to only have an initial consultation and then additional meetings as needed. We make sure that we meet with our clients throughout the length of time that they will be using our services to ensure that we have exceeded their expectations. We also design custom props for our clients for their special days. One thing that most of our clients do is show us mood boards on Pinterest or different things that they’ve found online. As a result, we are in the process of creating a partnership with Lowes so that we can make some of the props that our clients want to have for their wedding/event. The last thing that sets us apart from our competition is that we take time out of the year every year to attend conferences and other networking events so that we can stay up-to-date on the changes being made in the industry. This also includes taking any additional classes to further our knowledge so that we are well versed in the information that we can provide for our clients. .

The company goal for the next year is to continue to grow in the industry while expanding our client base. In the next 5 years, I would like to become certified to plan/design corporate events. Weddings and Corporate events will be our main focus during busy season and other events will be offered throughout the year. In 10 years, I see the company still doing all of the weddings/events that are offered. This way we can stay on top of all of our work while still maintaining a high client base. I forsee Events By Eriqa as being one of the top well-known businesses in Virginia.
